or at least that's what fantasy portrays~

UniqueRaven -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (7/20/2010 5:49:36 PM)

*Disclaimer* FOR ME:

Yes, i am deeply submissive. But i am a slave by vocation, like a nun, only naughtier - meaning even unowned, i am still a slave (ask my friends and they would nod in agreement to this). There isn't a moment in time that feels different for me in service as a slave of being owned vs. unowned - i don't go back to just being "myself" when i'm not owned...i am always a slave.

i have always known i was meant to serve as a slave, even as very young. My previous long-term Ownership only confirmed this for me, and i have only grown deeper as a slave over the years.

So, i tend to see submissive as an action and slave as an identity. But that's just me.

And i don't see one as "deeper" or "darker" or "more serious" than the other - just two different creatures. i also don't agree with "turning a submissive into a slave" - i believe you're either wired to need to serve and please as a slave, or you're not - again, not a superiority thing, just differences amongst what is fulfilling for people.

i know submissives who engage in waaaaaay heavier activities and play than i ever have - who knows about my future though, because - as a slave - if my Owner wants to go there, then that's where we will go.

And that for me is the greatest difference - my lack of a choice (for the most part) in what happens to me beyond that initial consent. All i need is to serve and to please, and have him be pleased with me.

But as others have said, you can slice this onion a thousand different ways and get a thousand different answers. What's most important is how you and yours feel about how you see yourselves.

I keep seeing profiles that say "I know the difference" in describing themselves as a slave or submissive. I have my own interpretations, but would love to hear some input from both Dominants and subs or slaves

Submission: Predicated on my wants, needs, and areas of discomfort.

Slaveery: Calibrated and defined by him.

Like pretty much everything that is discussed around here, the semantics are what individuals think. And even then, it varies from relationship, to different levels of submission and slavery.

I could not even tell you my opinion right now since I don't feel very submissive at the moment.

There is a lovely feature here at CM on the lower left portion of the screen.  It is called "search".  If you don't know the difference at 53 years of age in this lifestyle, you may want to use it.

Ow!

For the record I think you are the shit!

Now, can you explain the difference between a Dom and a Master?

Pretty please?....

LadyHibiscus -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (7/21/2010 9:08:40 AM)

Oh hell, who wants to remind everyone that a slave does not have to have a submissive personality?

Ladylocks -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 12:00:31 AM)

I have always thought of a submissive as being your significant other, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, the one you think of as a mate but lives by your rules and lets you take charge. You love them and might even marry them. You rule the roost and they are fine with that. You may play with others but you always come back to them.

I have thought of slaves as being someone who are with you as long as it serves your needs but you don't consider your mate. You may be fond of them but you don't love them in a pair bonding manner. You could start a relationship with someone else without guilt and the slave would have no say in the matter.

I guess I think of a slave as being more expendable in a sense with less emotion input from the dominant. But if the slave is valuable to the dominant it could result in a long term relationship. I hope this makes sense and its only my opinion on the matter.

Nobody agrees about what those labels supposedly define. So everybody has their own definition. Anyone claiming they know the "true" definition either has no clue, or has found dictionary.com and thinks it knows all.

Describe yourself using sentences. Chances are, there isn't one word to sum your entire self.

I mean, there are plenty of blank "slave" profiles. If I message those profiles asking for information about the person, they often reply back "it says slave.... that's all I should need to say". Oh, okay, now I get it! You're a slave! Now I feel like I've known you all my life! /sarcasm

dragon5369 -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 6:14:00 AM)

I think there are a lot of good ideas on this topic. For me though I believe that the differance lies in commitment. I can work with a sub that is not my slave. or I can work with a slave.

I believe both parties are submissive but a submissive can come and go. I believe that a slave has commited to the Master or Mistress or even the life style if you will . ( I am owned )

One group likes to consider themselves a sammich.

Frankly I don't give a rats ass if yu detest me or not. If you read my post, It clearly states that I have my own interpretation of the terms. I was just interested in other points of view. How shallow to think that everything can be gained from a book.

For the record (is this thing on?) you'd have gotten the other points of view if you had bothered to use the search tool in the first place.

Detest the response or not, you just showed how lazy you are. No matter how you slice it, you're lazy and, D-types, s-type, sammich wanna be or whatever, laziness is unattractive.

[Minimal Submission] Bottom < > Submissive < > Slave [Complete Subjection]

A submissive, while without question submissive, is not completely subservient, whereas a slave is.

I prefer the red or at least the orange domain: a slave or a man who is very slavish.

ProlificNeeds -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 5:52:29 PM)

Both are labels that mean nil and even less than nil once you understand the person being obscured by the label.

I suppose what people could do is meet up then let the relationship decide which term's the most appropriate.

Nah, that would make sense and then what would they write about?

PeonForHer -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 6:39:20 PM)

Tonnes of things.  Like, whether what they're doing is properly dominant or submissive, or not.  That's crucial, that one.  A fringe benefit is that the more time they spend here talking about their relationships, the less time they'll have to balls them up.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 6:43:36 PM)

Or better YET the more time they talk about META relationships the less time they will have to live actual lives away from the internets!

laurell3 -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 6:44:29 PM)

Is "balls them up" some odd british term for sex? Help me out here.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: define submissive/slave difference (8/2/2010 6:47:45 PM)

That's like "fucked up". They say "tits up" for failed, too. And to think that the whole language started over there! [8D]
