No....

How about this Rule....

John Kerry avoided a half a million dollars in taxes, thus screwing the people in Massachusetts, his constituents mind you, at a time when the General Fund of the Commonwealth (Which he represents in the United States Senate) is in dire need of revenue.

Kerry and his wife are billionaires. It would have been, as many of your post have stated the PATRIOTIC thing to do for Kerry to pony up and pay his fair share.

So far you various comments have been... variations of “Oh Yeah! Well well well Republicans and Conservative do too!”

Ergo, I can only assume you know feel as John Kerry does, "screw the poor and working people, when it's my money being counted" and that avoiding large tax levees are now the PATRIOTIC thing to do.

Why are you giving John Kerry a pass?

mnottertail -> RE: Should your U.S. Senator own a $7 M Yacht? (7/26/2010 1:32:22 PM)

And that differs from say GE or Monsanto or whatever hiring across the sea, or shifting income to other countries to minimize taxes and avoid certain laws?  It is legal.

Hey, here's a good name for the new sloop; The S.S. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?"
Now when people register and insure their cars up in New Hampshire at half the cost and get caught by Massachusetts they can use "The Kerry Defense."
"I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for Duty-Free!" "Hi-Hooooe!"

"What, $456,000 "Boat Tax" I thought they said "Botox!"

And poisonous snakes. Don't forget the poisonous snakes. They have stonefish as well.

Snakes are not poisonous.  They're venomous.  Just sayin'.

Oh, if it bites you it's venomous and if you bite it it's poisonous? I'll have to remember that.

No.  Venom is injected, via fangs, stingers, etc (Snakes, scorpions, spiders).  Poison is either ingested or through dermal contact (poison ivy, dart frogs).

That's what I said. I'd not realised there was a distinction between the two.
I know the frogs just sweat the stuff, but doesn't poison ivy use a sort of stinger, like nettles do?

Because its John Kerry, the Senior United States Senator from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

What part of that don't you understand?

I thought avoiding taxes was a con sport.

Is this more about jealousy and less about the poor citizens of the Common Wealth?

And it`s republican Teresa Heinz`s money.

OK... so what if it a "con" sport...

You're giving Kerry a pass?

And ah... it's their money.

Owner, Kerry's wife is worth $1B. They can spend their money any way they like. John Kerry is one of Massachusett's senators, not one of Rhode Island's senators. He has to maintain his main domicile in Massachusetts so that he can continue to be senator.
That means he pays Taxes to Massachusetts not Rhode Island.
He's not supposed to register any of his fleet of vehicles in New Hampshire to save half the taxes either! That's illegal and many Massachusetts residents who have tried to do that have gotten caught and had to pay heavy fines. It's that "noone's above the law" thingy!

More like you give cons a pass. Never heard you perk up before about how the wealthy avoid taxes.

Want to take a guess at how much tax money corporate America avoids paying w/ offshore mailing addresses?

Find out and post that amount and we`ll let you climb out of your hypocrisy,lad.

That's because you are biased against the right and blind to the asswipes on the left.

Nope, people are just pointing out how he is a hypocrite.

Doesn't really matter to me if they are left or right. But then again I don't see everything on one side as wrong and everything on the other side as right. When you get to the point that you can see the bad in the left, like you do the right, you might start to grow a bit.

Yeah, well; while we are at it Fats, we know that Mr McCain owns houses in California, Virginia, and Arizona, and I expect that in the sense of fair play to his constituents (and you guys), that he pays property taxes on all eight of his homes to each of the three states?

Jeffff -> RE: Should your U.S. Senator own a $7 M Yacht? (7/27/2010 6:24:10 AM)

Arguing the respective morals of various politicians feels a lot like masturbating.

mnottertail -> RE: Should your U.S. Senator own a $7 M Yacht? (7/27/2010 6:42:16 AM)

masturbating is far and away a more moral act than politicians of any ilk are moral.

Well if he doesn't, he should be prosecuted for it. But I find it hard to believe that he doesn't and the liberals on CM aren't screaming about it here, so maybe he does.

mnottertail -> RE: Should your U.S. Senator own a $7 M Yacht? (7/27/2010 8:11:55 AM)

So on his domiciles in Virginia and California, for example,  you think he probably pays property taxes to Arizona as well as the Virginia and California property taxes?

If not, hes fucking the great state of Arizona in exactly the way that Kerry is fucking the great state of Mass.  Because that boat is harboured in Rhode Island.

Whatta guy, that ol' hipshooter.

I have no idea, but I find it hard to believe if he doesn't, there hasn't been a thread about it.

So he is harboring his houses in other states to avoid taxes? I didn't think that was possible, but he is a politician so if there is a way to screw the people, he's probably found it.

Whatta guy, that ol' hipshooter.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Should your U.S. Senator own a $7 M Yacht? (7/27/2010 8:47:13 AM)

FR:
I have only read the first and last page of this thread, so my aplogies if I am being repetitive:

The reason many of us here in Massachusetts in particular are digusted with Mr. Kerry is the fact that the boat was made overseas and he has it parked in another state. Massachusetts was once a great ship building place and now the industry is dying. He could have " helped " his own state, which he represents and has a legal residence in, but he chose not too. And because he parked in Newport, RI to avoid paying taxes and yearly excise tax on it. Rhode Island stopped excise tax on boats quite a while ago. That is revenue his state of residence, the place he calls home, is not recieving. There is nothing illegal about that. For me and many others it is not a illegal vs legal issue. It is an ethical issue, do as I say not as I do issue.

Mr. Kerry is all about taxing the beJesus out of everyone. I don't think there is a single bill that has called to increase taxes on Americans that he didn't vote " Yay " on. He's perfectly content to impose tax after tax on us, his constituents, but he is unwilling to pay taxes himself. Or should I say, he will find any legal loophole to avoid it. After all, he IS one of the beautiful people, not like we peons he claims to represent. Yes, it is a state matter and he is at a Federal level. But he supports, campaigns and supports the state politicians who tax us to death. He also lives here and votes here. he votes for candidates who want to increase our taxes. He supported Gov. Patrick's never ending tax hikes and supports the ones now under consideration by state legislators. We had an item on the ballot to eliminate state tax last year, he was absolutely against it. Yet, he sneaks his little dingy into a state that doesn't have excise tax on boats and a lower state tax. A state that eliminated the very taxes he supported remain in effect here in Massachusetts.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Mr. Kerry one of the ones who thinks and wants to have higher taxes for the rich, cuz they ain't paying their fair share and leveling the burden on the working class and poor ? Doesn't he support our presidents policies on that issue ?

It's called hypocracy folks. Plain and simple. I hope it comes to bite him in the ass in a few years when he is up for re election.

Now having said that: I am a Libertarian and give a big thumbs up to anyone who finds a legal way to minimize the taxes the government is raping us of. I myself will go to New Hampshire or Rhode Island to avoid paying a higher tax on things. Not always, but on big ticket items and things like cigarettes and liqour, you bet your ass I do. And if I were fortunate enough to be able to afford a boat, I would park it in Brisol, RI. No questions asked, I would do it

Am I a hypocrite too ? No, I am not. John Kerry does not have the same ideology as me and he believes that tax increases and more money in the government's pocket is a beautiful thing. Yet, when it comes to his personal finances he tucks tail and hides in a place where he can keep more of his money than he wants me to be able to. I live my ideology. He lives my ideology too, but he runs as a man for the working class and poor.  Yet, he continues to be in favor of any taxes he can bequeath upon the working class and poor on a Federal level and he votes, supports and campaigns for state politicians who want to tax our asses into extinction. Mr. Kerry refuses to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to his own personal finances. Good for me, not good for you. That should be his motto.

Thats is why John Kerry is a pathetic hypocrite of the first ilk.

Well, point of order, boatbuilding may be dying, but I searched Mass and nowhere do they build boats in the class of boat under discussion.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Should your U.S. Senator own a $7 M Yacht? (7/27/2010 9:06:03 AM)

I will concede that point with reservation, Ron. I don't know if they build them as big and luxurious as the one he built. But will accept your research.

Conceding that point still leaves the larger issue of hypocracy on the table.
