As a VERY Big BBW I am considering Lapband surgery in the near future. I am aware this will affect many aspects of my life, however I would like to know if any of the others have had this procedure and how its has impacted their BDSM time negative or positively. I appreaciate any willingness to share your experiances.

Ask your surgeon for  names and telephone numbers. You need to talk to real people who have had the surgery. There should be something akin to a support group for lapband patients.

Instead of worrying about your bdsm play, you need to consider the impact on your day-to-day life. It is a major surgery, with major consequences to your life.

and good luck with it. [:)]

It never ceases to amaze me how people will decide HEALTH issues based on how it might effect their kink life. Sorry, that is absolute stupidity to me, and I applaude you kiwi, for pointing it out.

Crone, I'm likely going to get flamed for this, but I would not consider weight loss surgery as anything except a single facet of a full program.  For example, do you have emotional issues that led to the weight gain and how do you plan to deal with them?

tazzygirl -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/26/2010 8:01:41 PM)

Very good point DS. Lapbands can be removed, and often are at the end of the weight loss. without addressing the underlying causes and changing habits, it will all be a waste of time.

Thank you, JstAnotherSub, that was very helpful.
Please understand I am not making this decision based on my 'play time' and I know I have issues that must be over come before all of these things are finalized.
I was only looking for what to expect outside the usual banter you get from the weightloss surgery sites. Not too many people are willing to look at you and say "Sir wont bind my abs anymore cuase the port moves." And that, indeed, is the information I am wondering about.
I appreciate all the feed back I have recieved.

I have not had this surgery, however, I have read up on a number of people who have, individuals, that is, and many of them have to have further surgery later in order to take up all the loose skin.  Just something to think about and save up for after you've lost your weight.  Good luck!

I found a lap band surgery forum, with a post with before and after pics of tummy tuck.  You have to join the site to see the pics, though.  I'm not going to, but you might like to check it out.

I know this is your choice and if you feel you need it, go ahead but.. Consider the risks of going under anesthesia first. Unnecessary surgery is an unnecessary risk which I never recommend (personal view). If you exhausted all other possibilities, I do understand.. if you haven't, please give them a try.

Best of luck with whichever you decide to do. It'll be a big change in your day to day life, try to get in a support group. [:)]

OP,

This blog http://hisjoy.blogspot.com/ might be of interest to you.  Perhaps you could contact the author and discuss this topic further with her.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best...this type of decision is never easy for a whole host of reasons.

Yes, this is so true. I know of countless people that had gastric bipass and in spite of a permanent changeto the size of their stomach, they still ended up gaining the weight back from eating more often and the wrong foods. So if the underlying cause is not addressed, the person wont heal the emotions that cause the over eating.

I always thought diet and exercise work best. There no magic bullet. Though lord knows I have never had more than 60 to lose and thats daunting enough. I can imagine how overwhelming 100 plus pounds would be to lose.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/28/2010 3:07:25 PM)

My friend was looking into having the bypass surgery done and I went with her to the orientation as her 'support partner' because the program requird that everyone who was undertaking the surgery have one. During the orienttion, they discussed the screening process. This not only included a pyschiatric exam and therapy, but everyone who was approved for the sugery had to first quit smoking, join a healthclub and lose a certain number of pounds (dependant on the indivual) and show that they were capable of losing some weight before getting the approval and scheduling the date for the operation. The support system and follow through was impressively extensive. My friend chose not to participate. I think she was ok with the surgery, but had no intention of giving up her cigarette habit. Anyway, the weight loss surgery is NOT an easy way out. It still requires dedication, commitment and support.

I still don't think it is the best option, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a bad idea for those seriouslyl needing to lose weight for health reasons.

sublizzie -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/28/2010 4:15:52 PM)

I know people who've had gastric bypass (Rouen Y) and done well. I know people who've had it and regained their weight. I was the receptionist for a dietician who worked with people whose gastric bypass surgery ended up causing huge problems so my view of them tends to be bad, but it's a very skewed view and I know that.

The surgery for skin tucks, I've heard, is more dangerous than the bypass itself. I've also heard that having the skin tuck surgery done in India or one of the other "medical destination" countries is much less expensive, but those are both hearsay, not researched.

My PA keeps asking me if I'd be willing to have one done. I'm not (see above) and am screwing up the will power needed to do the diet & exercise thing it will take to lose all I need to lose. Not ready yet, but I'm working toward it.

switchingcrone -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/28/2010 5:57:20 PM)

Sadly, I have identified my eating issue as emotional/Stress eating. I also have to have an ACL repair. I am afraid both of those things will make me not a good candidate. Before I found myself super morbidly obese I ran 5 miles a day biked 16 miles a day and did weight lifting 3 days a week. I was in incredible shape, imo. After the knee injury occurred ( and was never properly diagnosised until 15 years later) I began to put on weight which triggered depression which triggered eating and so on in a wonderfully vicious cycle. At some Point I threw a bad marraige and three kids into the mix. My hopes were that I would be able to lose enough weight from the lapband to get my knee repaired and in turn become active again. I miss my runs and bicycle rides. My cycling was my meditation.

I do want to stress I DO NOT want to have my digestive tract cut into. I dont feel the benefits of that procedure would outway the risks. I want to have a good quality of life later in life But I want to be healthy enough to see my sons marry and have sons or daughters of their own. That is why I feel that lap band would be the most appropriate choice for me to get the kickstart I need.
The posts placed here by other CM'er were very welcome and have given me a few more things to think about.
*bows in respect to each of you*

tazzygirl -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/28/2010 9:57:54 PM)

The problem, and misconception, about any of these surgeries is that people lose weight and believe they are healthy. They are not. years of adding fatty tissue around organs, inside organs like the liver and heart, as well as plaque buildup in the arteries dont go away because you have lost weight.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/29/2010 2:49:29 PM)

So what are you suppose to do? Give up because you have some fatty deposit around tissues and organs? You're still a hell of a lot better off and have lowered your risk of heart disease and diabetes.

tazzygirl -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/29/2010 4:21:02 PM)

My my, testy over this, arent you.

You do what you have to do and you dont bark at people that point out the pittfalls along the way.

angelikaJ -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/29/2010 4:54:22 PM)

For people who have type II diabetes bariatric surgery can actually reverse the disease.
In the case of lap-band surgery the reversal seems to be caused by the weight loss.

With the gastric by-pass surgery, it is the restructured digestive system, that seems to be the primary factor.

Madame4a -> RE: Weightloss Surgery (7/29/2010 5:01:37 PM)

Actually.. most of what you've said about the years of build up of fat isn't true... many people who have various weight loss surgeries are in fact healthy...

I'm not sure why you have this huge bias, but I don't have the fat build up you mention... I had my surgery... lost over 200 pounds.. and I've maintained my weight give or take ten pounds for 8 years now.. I'm much healthier than I was... for very obese people.. its a wonderful life changing AND lengthening procedure... have you had it?  If not.. I'd suggest you temper your opinons, not based in fact.. .ok?

edited to add... if you want to talk about it Switchingcrone.. I'm happy to share through messages...
