Don't like bacon in any form.  Not sure why, just don't.

Peanut butter the same.

Grilled cheese was ALWAYS our Friday night dinner whether Lent (fasting) or not.  Meatless Fridays, you see.

Dad always said: "Okay, I won't eat meat on Fridays.  Let's have a shrimp or lobster dinner."  (Come to think of it, I don't remember him EVER eating at home on Fridays.... HMMmmmm.)

Grilled cheese ALWAYS with tomato soup.

More sophisticated, adult palate?  Add tomato slices (and maybe thin sliced ham) before grilling.

The world's best winter sandwich: Grilled cheese and bacon, with white bread spread with butter on the outside, and enough cheese to oooooooze out of the edges to tell you that it's done.

Back in the real world of lower fat and higher fibre: the world's best summer sammich: four food groups, no waiting: fresh flax bread, roasted red pepper, roasted chicken breast, with a splodge of avocado mashed with garlic instead of mayo, and shreds of cabbage for crunch, and a tall glass of milk.

And y'all remember that Lance comes up with GREAT hors d'oeuvres!

Take that grilled cheese sandwich and divide into 8ths - pinwheel style - 4 squares, then each square on diagonal.

Lordy, lordy!  These were almost gone before I could set the platter down.... Sweet midgie pickles in the center bowl of serving dish for a contrast - sweet versus salty, crisp versus gooey.

ETA:  Next time, I'll cut each midgie across into 4ths and use toothpick to hold one onto each mini sandwich

OR

For true "retro" feel, a pimento-filled green olive toothpicked onto each.  (Have you priced those little suckers recently?  I did and all I can say is, "Sticker shock.")

::: SIGH ::::

And here, I thought you wanted me for my mind..... er, body, er.... flogging arm.

Okay, okay.... you forced me to tell what I made for dinner....
1-3/4 pound pork loin - with way too much marinade/flavorings.  You know the kind I mean.  Packaged in what seems to be 1/4" thick plastic wrap. LOL!

Kidding aside, the REDUCED meat dept. is your friend... I call it "Soon-to-be-dead-meat"  Oh, wait.... that's an entirely different string. LOL!

Anyway, this cost me $3.50 wow!  But with all that marinade and stuff, probably just over a pound.  First step (after fighting 1/4" plastic wrap) rinse VERY well.  Strip off "silver skin."  Pre-heated 350 oven for 40 minutes in a shallow baking dish - y'know Pyrex  9 x 13.

Wait at least 5 minutes, slice on diagonal.... Do NOT be shocked at pinkish color.  American pork is disease free and can be served medium rare (just like tuna.)  Okay, while that was cooking - fresh asparagras, blanched and ice-shocked.  Sauces?  You get from SpiceGuy2009 his Brandied Apple Dessert Sauce..... Heavy cream, heated in small sauce pan..... add apple sauce and then "his" curry powder (to taste.)  Spice Guy's website: www.fbtef.com Tip: Cook carrot slices for salad in asparagrass water till al'dente.

Cheat: favorite store-bought salad dressing on asparagrass.
Cheat: Store-bought angelfood cake.

Menu:
Green salad with fresh carrot and olives with squeeze of fresh lemon
Sliced pork Loin with cream, apple and curry sauce.
Asparagrass with Balsamic Vinegarette dressing.
Angelfood cake with hand-cut fresh fruit salad.

Is that healthy or what?

On his profile here he has coupon code for CM folk.  BRB Well, he did for awhile....  Maybe it was "Collar"

Okay, now for an important thread; what is your sandwich of choice? What bread do you use? What cheese, peanut butter, etc?

I picked other, a Lebanon Bologna and swiss on a nice pumpernickel, with Gulden's spicy brown mustard, or some other spicy mustard.

Can we tell I still live in NJ?? Only NJ and eastern PA people know Lebanon Bologna.

Any time bacon is an option, it's gonna get my vote.

Favorite sandwich is salami - cooked crispy in a skillet, with cheddar that melts over it.  Just mustard on toast to compliment it.  It's a very rare treat.  Pastrami & cheese on rye is amazing but it's been about 5 years since I've had one.

Elisabella -> RE: PBJ vs Grilled Cheese vs BLT (8/3/2010 11:51:24 PM)

Grilled cheese - either swiss with sundried tomato or cheddar with a dusting of coriander.

BLT is good too but I usually just go for BLM (bacon lettuce and mayo) on some squishy white wonder bread.

PBJ...meh. Sometimes I'll be in the mood for it. PBH (peanut butter and honey) is good too.

thishereboi -> RE: PBJ vs Grilled Cheese vs BLT (8/4/2010 5:07:06 AM)

Jif, extra crunchy and strawberry preserves on white bread. I prefer Aunt Millies Potatoe bread. Not as picky on the jelly part, but I just got a new Cherry-Strawberry-Kiwi fruit spread to try.

tropicalhoney -> RE: PBJ vs Grilled Cheese vs BLT (8/4/2010 6:12:06 AM)

BLTA crisp bacon, spring mix lettuce, sliced ugly tomato, avocado, and mayo on toasted multigrain toast - always with potato chips.

Grilled cheese - Multigrain bread spread with butter, toasted on one side in skillet before adding double Gloucester cheese, and toasting until the cheese is oozing out. Bacon and tomato make good additions though no tomato if serving with tomato bisque.

My other all time favorite is roast beef with truffle pate, cornichon pickles, dijon mustard, and mayo on baguette.

Of course, there is toasted baguette spread with mayo mixed with chutney, topped with spring mix lettuce, tomato, seared fresh tuna with a little lime juice, olive oil and splenda dressing over it.

DesFIP -> RE: PBJ vs Grilled Cheese vs BLT (8/4/2010 7:42:24 AM)

BLT on pita with mayo. If you're very hungry add turkey.

And that Jersey sandwich? I used to get something very similar to that in Cambridge, MA back when I was in college. Except it had Russian dressing, not Thousand Island.

AQuietSimpleMan -> RE: PBJ vs Grilled Cheese vs BLT (8/4/2010 8:58:50 AM)

BLT BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LadyPact -> RE: PBJ vs Grilled Cheese vs BLT (8/4/2010 9:53:13 AM)

Grilled cheese -  I actually like sourdough bread and the cheese can be just about anything.  Definitely best with tomato soup.  It's been ages since I've eaten one, mostly because the two just have to go together and I'm more a 'soup in the winter/salad in the summer' person.

BLT - Not so much.  I like bacon, but there's something about the combination of fat and carbs that turns Me off.  That's not to say that I'll pass up a bacon, egg, and cheese burrito.  The best place in the world to get these are a very small chain in Colorado Springs where they used to come with a fresh habanero sauce.  One would keep you fed the entire day and it was literally the last thing I ate before the move to GA.

PB&J - Never.  I'll eat peanut butter on occasion, but not with jelly or jam.  I am definitely not a fruit person.  The peanut butter itself can be any brand as long as it's low/reduced fat.  I'll skip rather than eat crunchy.

Tomato sandwiches with light mayo' and coarse ground black pepper rock !
Best summer-food EVER .[:D]
