I'm new to the online community but not the lifestyle as in what I like and have done for 17 years light S&M with a few moments of a dominating nature well more then a few lol. Any who . Why can't we just do what ever the Hell we want without the labels? Your opinion in this I believe will help many NeWbieS... Without some form of shared communication, which a 'label' can be described to be, it would be difficult to cut to the chase of whether two people might be compatible.  It smacks of the ol' vanilla days where you meet someone, then go through whatever process you do to determine whether the person you're with is the slightest bit kinky, much less compatible with you on just THOSE interests.  Labels are at least a way of narrowing the field.

Let's see..... I'm a man looking for a woman.  Well, that narrows the planet down by roughly 50%.  Has to identify some way with BDSM.  Now that 50% is down to 10% or fewer.

Labels can help at least on a macro level.

You're right, however in saying that once two people, kinky, find one another, and find happiness they need nothing other than their mutual affections.  If they know nothing of labels, they are free to go about their business in any way they like to maintain their happiness.  Now, we here on CM (loosely speaking for the collective) with our all-knowing all-discerning understanding of how things are to work, might look at the participants in that relationship and criticize them for not following the appropriate tenets.  They aren't doing it 'right' dammit!

That sorta what you mean?

Jeff

Labels help a LOT but they shouldn't define you.  Figure out which label comes closest to you.

NOT VANILLA!!!!! hahaha

If there were no labels or props, the BDSM community would have absolutely nothing left.

Seriously.  Most vanilla relationships now a days already have a Dominant and a Submissive.  Most vanilla relationships BACK THEN had a Dominant and a Submissive.  That's what the BDSM community is here for.

People who need labels so that they won't be so confused.

BDSM is like a crutch...  For socially retarded people who need to know how a relationship works.

I disagree, but if you really feel that way, ask yourself why your silly ass is on a BDSM site.

Except for interpersonal relationships and interplay.

You've lost me.  IMHO, one of the beauties of nonvanilla relationships is that the power struggle is not there.  The D is in charge.  In my vanilla former marriage, the power lines were never clear, and all sorts of strife resulted.

It saves time. If I meet a gay man or lesbian, it won't work.  If I meet a Dominant woman, it won't work. Knowing what they are up front makes me know right away what kind of relationship(s) I could expect from them - simply friendship or something else.

And yet another inflammatory comment by a newcomer to collarme who no doubt feels this is best use of his valuable time to make negative pronouncements.

And of course, the irony that he is part of the socially retarded network here is lost on him.

"Labels" are pretty much the foundation of communication - and you wanna do away with that????

Rather than differentiate between Dom and sub by "labelling" them Dom or sub..... what...., we'll just call them.... people? Instead of man or woman.... people? Of course, "people" is a label, too.... Mammal, perhaps...? Nope, even more diluted but still a label.

You're right, actually.... You can *do* whatever you want without the labels. But any halfwit would realise you just won't ever be able to discuss or describe whatever it is you did without them.

Almost any halfwit.... Have you considered just how many labels are in your OP?

From your second sentence, I've put an asterix at the common labels you've used - "*I'm *new to the *online *community but *not the *lifestyle as in what *I *like and have *done for *17 *years *light *SM with a *few *moments of a *dominating *nature..."

And when I edit out the *labels I've marked, presto:

"to the but the as in what and have for with a of a..."

Smooth...!

Focus.
