There is legitimate research being done with some of the best technical hypothesis being considered and finally shown on Science channel...I think.

This must be some strange new meaning of the word "legitimate" that I was previously unaware of.

O brave new word, that has such meanings in it.

This is what NASA has to say about the subject: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2012.html. Personally though, I know this is just a conspiracy to cover up the truth of our impending doom. There will be no time for world wide panic and no time to repent of our sins. We'll all go to hell. The conspiracy is, of course, being organized by the Collar Me Message Board Clique (yes - it's true - the CMMBC runs NASA). Damn you clique. [8|]

I knew it must be the clique.

Its gonna get hot and our old ass power grid will fail. mayhem will soon follow.

Terence McKenna did the original "legitimate research" by eating way too many mushrooms and smoking way too much DMT.
He's the one who popularized this moronic theory based on his hallucinations about the Mayan calandar.

I, of course, know the truth.

Id say the Mayans were more in tune with the universe than modern man would like to admit, many ancient civilizations lived their lives by what the stars told them. I dont know if the world will end on that date, but I wouldnt be surprised to see some cataclysmic event happen. There are two schools of thought on earth changes, one being slow and taking thousands if not millions of years , the other is sudden and violent, who is to say that the Mayans are totally wrong? with the way modern man has pumped billions of tonsof crap into the atmosphere and polluted areas beyond repair, perhaps Mother Earth sees man as a virus and is trying to expell us, just as your body may attempt to expell a cold. I for one rule nothng out on that date. ANd the Mayans are not the only ones who predicted the end in that year.

Uh, dude, the Mayans didn't predict the end of the world in 2012.

"December 23, 2012 will be 13.0.0.0.0 4 Ahau 3 Kankin, the day when the 13 baktuns will end and the Long Count returns to the symmetry of the beginning. The Mayans, however, did not conceive this to be the end of creation, as many have suggested. Pacal, the great king of Palenque, predicted in his inscriptions that the 80th Calandar Ri=ound of his accession would be celebrated eight days after the first eight-thousand year cycle in the Mayan calandar ends."
From "A Forest of Kings: The Untold Story of the Mayans", Linda Schele and David Friedel: William Morrow and Co., NY, 1990, pg.82. Note that these people are REAL anthropologists, the ones who helped crack the code of the Mayan language and calandar.

Even small changes in weather can spawn major problems. So I don't see how anyone could state categorically that there won't be any nasty storms as a result.

We've had our hottest summer since 1962 and the grid didn't fail.  There have been no large scale failures this year.  I think that's pretty cool, since Ohio started the ball rolling on a wicked grid failure in 2003 in hot weather.  We go big when we go wrong! [:D]

The point is that planetary conjunctions don't affect our weather.  They are too far away.

Does this mean we can stop paying our property taxes, etc? That would be great!

Hillwilliam -> RE: Doomsday coming ? 12/21/2012 (8/20/2010 11:15:55 AM)

I plan to offer to buy up a LOT of houses cheap in november of '12 and tell the selelrs they dont have to be out till 01/01/13.

Then their little world will end when they have spent all their $ on an end of the world party and now they have a new landlord.    ME

thornhappy -> RE: Doomsday coming ? 12/21/2012 (8/20/2010 4:20:17 PM)

IIRC, I heard of a few groups similar to that.  They sold all their belongings and moved to a secure compound for the New Year in 2000.

The simplest way to view this is as teh same thing that occured on Dec 31, 999 CE. Did the world end because our calendar had run out? No we just added a digit and kept going. the mayans didn't beleive the world was ending in 2012 that is simply when one of their calendar systems has to do the equivalent of adding another digit.

The real doomsday will come for the democrats, in November of 2012, seven weeks earlier than the scientists predictions.

Most people can't make correct change, let alone understand what g/d^2 means.

Maybe tutoring?

MrRodgers -> RE: Doomsday coming ? 12/21/2012 (8/21/2010 1:25:14 AM)

It's wordy...read it all.....

I guess I thought we'd try and consider the math and science. Not spurios claims buy the comedy crowd.

So the question is does the date mean anything at all ? Yea, it being only a little over 2 years from now...we all hope to be alive and well, maybe a little thinner and a whole lot richer. Next question.

Have the astronomers, the astro-scientists extrapolated mathematically an alignment of the planets ? Yes, many more than say no (some actually referring to 12/12/12) say no, it does not predict an alignment. Seems this may be a battle of the software because how else do we do it ?

Math is yes or no. Did our math tell us this cosmic phenomenon occurred about 25,500 years ago ? I believe it does. Has there been research into what may have happened then ? Little.

So the question remains, will the forces of hell be unleashed upon us ? The scientists say maybe but there may be some changing times ahead...coming soon to your local newsstand an smut shops. Why ?

Because I have the answer...yep, I know what's going to happen. ALL single women under 80...ok, 60, will turn into a wanton sluts, very likely needing a 'daddy' and will ache...to get their kink on and make a beeline to Mr. Rodgers neighborhood. I am stock-piling tampons and canned food as we speak.

Oh, and with the change in gravitational pull not only will that help my pool game but make my dick at least 1" longer. It's in the stars.

Let's have some more fun...only you are going to need to actually think...

Astronomical updates of 2012 are pouring in. We are grateful for the Mayan Calendar (as one reference) for pointing the way. It is a good map but now, through science, we are starting to see the actual landscape.

Have you ever looked out into the night sky and seen the Milky Way Galaxy? Did you notice the obvious tilt? It is at a steep angle to the straight line of the horizon. Why?

It turns out that our solar system appears to belong to another galaxy that is colliding with the Milky Way. This was recently discovered when scientists were trying to figure (mathematical) sources for "dark matter" that would account for forces we can measure but not see visibly. Using near-infrared (wavelengths of light outside human eye and optical telescopes) a huge sister galaxy circling the Milky Way was discovered. It's called the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy (SGR for short).

For those keen on the 2012 data, this is the reason [for] our entry point to the Rift, center, heart (HunabKu-Mayan)) of the Milky Way is through Sagittarius. The two collide at that point. This explains why our solar system is at an angle to the plane of the galaxy and also why we dip above and below that center line every 12,000 yrs or so.

But the trail gets hotter - literally. Moon shots from the 1960s revealed glass on the moon. Glass is made from intense bursts of heat on sand.

The event happened within the last 30,000 yrs. Ancient petrographics of primitive people (archeological carvings) from that era (12,000+y.a.) show the sun causing extreme energy bursts changing earth atmosphere.

Next clue - the current 11 year Sun Spot Cycle has passed the minimum (sun spot activity should have begun over a year ago and has not for the first time ever). This appears to be caused by a gravitation field influencing the sun. The only field large enough would be from - the center of the galaxy.

What does all this mean? Putting it all together, it implies the 2011-2012 event is a natural cycle of solar maximum bursts which could scorch all or parts of the earth. How is the world preparing?

Russia is building a huge underground city to hold 60,000 people, the YAMANTAU Mt Complex.
Norway has already built enough facility for their entire population to go under ground. Sweden. working with NATO has created an underground seed bank (a modern day Noah's Ark).

And here in the USA?
The Bush family has made one of the largest land purchases in history for their own personal private compound in Paraguay. (the only inland nation of South America)
I know, I know a real waste of money...ok.
