If you feel this mosque is an injustice akin to human slavery, a human rights violation, then I encourage you to stand up for your beliefs although I disagree.

This thread is for the people whose main argument is that the mosque is "insensitive" or that they're offended by it. If that is their only problem with it, I really think they should try to focus their efforts on themselves so they're not hurting anymore before these feelings turn into bitter scar tissue.

You were offended yesterday. The posts were pulled so I can't quote them.

It was about the chances of being killed in a terrorist incident.

Once again dog, disingenuous.

Nope others were offended, so my posts were pulled.

What does the thousands of book burning Muslims in England (salaman Rushdie) or the murdered Dutch Filmmaker have to do with Human rights violations in the Mideast?

What does a now withdrawn fatwah issued twenty years ago by a dead Ayatollah have to do with a planned community centre in walking distance of what's left of the WTC?

You mean the guy who thinks that Muslims should convert to Christianity or Judaism when they move to the US?

Right.

FR

Insensitive is not synonomous to offensive. I haven't done a count, but the word I see used here is that it is " insensitive ".

Elisabella -> RE: How to overcome being easily offended (9/13/2010 6:45:57 AM)

True but people can and do get offended by others' insensitivity.

Owner59 -> RE: How to overcome being easily offended (9/13/2010 7:00:22 AM)

The supposedly smarter ones are acknowledging the the mosque has every right to be there, protected religious freedom etc, blah blah blah......

The argument being put forward in the public discourse, is that a mosque 2 blocks from Ground Zero is insensitive.

Below the surface and on fuxnews the language get nastier and as hurtful as possible, but in the above board discussion, the word used most often is "insensitive".

Fortunately for CM members,we can take on both the high brow and the low here and call it what it is with appropriate terminology.

Yep. We can call this mosque project a great big middle finger to the victims, the city, and the country.

If some people want to get off lubing up and riding it, well, it's a free country.

I dont feel the mosque is an injustice to anyone. Nor do i imply that.

My point was .. and still is... simple.

You feel that people dont have a right to feel offended by the placement of the mosque.

In colonial days, many felt that abolitionists didnt have the right to feel offended over the ownership of blacks because they were, after all, merely property.

In the same aspect, abolitionists didnt understand the offended feelings of the slave owners when they complained about being told what they could and could not do with property.

Men in the victoria era didnt understand the complaints by women. The sufferage movement was based upon the offended feelings related to women. Men believed women should have been happy with being taken care of all the time.

Offended feelings have caused major changes in our society. They have caused wars, healed wounds, and brought about massive social changes.

I think your insistence on how to overcome those feelings is way off course.

atursvcMaam -> RE: How to overcome being easily offended (9/13/2010 7:49:57 AM)

So your neighbor's dog tears up your prize winning roses,  Which can not be replanted in your rear garden due to cost and soil changes.  The neigbor decides to plant lilies (the neighbor's favorite, not necessarily yours) along his fenced edge of your torn up garden.  do you:
a:  smile and praise your neighbor for the lovely garden that is developing?
          b.  wonder why the dog has not yet been put down or leashed?
          c.  hope for a drought?
          d.  plant kibble in the lily garden hoping to entice the dog into a repeat performance?
e,  smile and nod, and go on with your life?

There are a couple of new sprays on the market - 'Idiot Be Gone' and the super strength 'Moron Buster'.

Not sure about the body odor though...

atursvcMaam -> RE: How to overcome being easily offended (9/13/2010 10:03:07 AM)

A bit of Vicks Vaporub under your nose will override most bodily odors, a headset playing your favorite music as loudly as you can stand will block most verbal stupidity.  Sometimes i just quit reading as soon as stupidity is noticed, and if i am driving i tend to give other drivers a wide berth.  You probably can't elimnate stupidity or odor, simply isolate yourself.
i often wonder if that is other's response to me.

Moonhead -> RE: How to overcome being easily offended (9/13/2010 12:04:20 PM)

I get the impression that the easiest way to avoid being easily offended is not to come from the 'States.
When did you people turn into such a load of whining crybabies? You wouldn't see John Wayne carrying on on the internerd like this...
