I think it is horrid. The first wife should be a apart of the decision adding a new sisterwife to the family. She should be comfortable and the other wives should also be comfortable with it. The 1st wife is the one who has to deal with her own emotional stuff and the emotional stuff of her sisterwives. The first wife appears to be unhappy therefore her husband needs to figure out what is going before he adds an additional human being to the household. It will not last. He has no respect for any of his wives- plus each wife is suppose to be cared for equally. I hear they are under investigation and I hope they take this show off the air.

I didn't think so. I have only seen 4 or 5 ewpisodes but it all seems to work really well, except that Robin the newest addition caused some hard feelings when she entered the relationship.

I saw it previewed, so I read an article about it. There is a massive difference between paternalistic polygamy and egalitarian polyamory. There is nothing kinky about this series. It seems kind of sad.

I don't think I will waste my time on this one. Pretty package around soiled everything in my opinion.

Thanks for saving me the time everyone! lol

IMO, the problem with polygamy has never been the polygamists. It's that single men with no selection of available single women are much more likely to become suicide bombers.

Or worse.

So, Ive watched it twice now.  The first wife is miserable and I don't see this as portraying their way of life in a favorable way.

These women were all raised in multi woman homes, understood the complications and decided it was what they wanted...perhaps Kody is not the right man for the job.   He seems a little young and yah, kinda cute in a surfer dude kinda way, but he seems to be lacking in the ability to keep everyone happy.

They may dress in today's fashions instead of pioneer attire, and the wives hold down jobs so they don't suck money from the state...but thats about the only positive I can see so far.   All in all, it's a pretty emotional household.

AlwaysLisa, I so agree with everything you just said. And you're right the problem is NOT polygamy but the polygamist. Not following the written rules of polygamy will cause nothing but strife. You must take care, love, and provide for everyone equally. In Islam, a man must provide a home for each of his wives. Those who practice polygamy righteously will be able to be the strength for one another. I am very angry about this show. So, I apologize if I come across angry, but I don't like to seeing them take something that is suppose to be precious and beautiful and turning it into...a man simply having wives to sleep around with. This man knows nothing about maintaining his home.

It's reality television. What do you expect? Reality? psssh. Please.

If this were a perfectly awesome household, they'd have to invent drama for it.

They may have already.

So really, how is this a thing? Hell, portraying a poly household this way might be good for polygamy as a whole, because of all the people out there thinking 'hey, I could do this way better than those tardballs.'

Hi,

my wife and i watched several episodes about a week ago using the Comcast OnDemand service. We have watched and liked Big Love on HBO but that show makes it seem persons with poly families keep a very low profile.

We liked Sister Wives as they are in the open about their lifestyle and, most importantly, they participate in it voluntarily as opposed to some "old school" groups that force young female teens to marry a 70 year old "elder." Too bad the show only have a few episodes and now seems over. Hope it and others come back.

Also, on WE there was a show on the Secret Lives of Housewives or something like that. It included an episode on a slave wife who served a Master (not her husband) and did not hide this relationship or her lifestyle choice to here kids (teens). Great that some can be that open when many, including this slave, can not.

perhaps a good trend on TV?

Big Love? Fiction but decent. Sister Wives? True, but not the true "lifestyle," nor is it decent. "Calgon take it away."

i have just started watching "Sister Wives" today.

Yeah.....no.

Just no.

I am accepting of the poly lifestyle, so long as everybody involved is happy. However, that seems to be so far from the truth here. I don't think Kody knows what the heck he is doing. My impression is that he just wants more women. Personally, I believe another person should be added to the dynamic is there is something lacking or something addition is needed. I don't see what the 4th wife brings to the table. Maybe its something that TLC left out in editing that explains why she is being brought into the family.

But i doubt that.

The first wife is in a lot of pain, i see that. I believe if she hadn't been raised in poly, she might not have chosen that path for herself.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I don't believe in adding people to fix something lacking in a relationship. I believe in creating a strong relationship and then adding more love to it.

Kody may well not know what he is doing. The people in it may well not be happy. But just because you can't see what the fourth wife is bringing to the table doesn't mean that she doesn't have a place.

To a certain extent, I'm willing to cut this family from slack. Their personal struggles are being blasted on TV, one lost her job because of the show, the camera crews are invading their privacy and now the little moments of jealousy that could be worked out and forgotten are in the living rooms of millions of people.

No pressure right?

the bold part i can't say I can agree with you on. Unless they were filmed against their will (I sure hope not), I do believe they signed up for the show. That's more or less an invite into their private lives.

Just my opinion.

Yeah they signed on the dotted line. But when the camera crews come in they are doing more than just filming. Their equipement is everywhere and even when they are 'off-camera' there are still strangers all over their house and around their kids.

Yes they signed up for it. I doubt that makes it easy to deal with though. I mean, I signed up for a power dynamic - that doesn't mean I enjoy getting up when I have a headache for make Val dinner. Just because you agreed to do something - for whatever reason - doesn't mean that thing is always easy to do and that it won't make certain aspects of your life harder.

Just the fact that every moment is being broadcast and dissected by everyone means that it's going to be harder for them to deal with everything. Yes they signed up for it. I still say cut them some slack - you don't have to agree with me. That's just my opinion.

Oh, i agree that its still not easy to deal with. I had border-line lost my mind when I had to do a life study film project a few years ago, and 76 hours of filming were done in my house.

I wanted to shoot people at several points during the project. However, I did sign up for it....grin-and-bear-it type of thing.

So yes, I agree that its not easy, and in the mental toll aspect, yes, some slack should be given.

And as far as the 4th wife is concerned- It was just my opinion as to her not bringing anything to the table, only because they really didn't divulge (or editing cut it out, who knows?) as to why there was a need to bring her in.

Ah....missing info and drawing possibly wrong conclusions...gotta love it.

But overall, I think some issues that were hovering around in the relationship should have been mended before the addition of another wife. I know some came just because she was being added, but there were many stemming from years ago that should have been addressed.

There may been issues that they didn't realize they had - I know first hand sometimes adding someone new makes you aware of the problem but I don't know. It's not something I've followed too carefully.

I still just have to completely disagree with you about the term 'need' in terms of bringing in new partners. It's a pet peeve of mine - I don't 'need' anyone else, Valyraen isn't lacking in any way. I just happen to be best suited to a poly situation. Kinda like how I don't 'need' to be in a relationship at all - I manage very well on my own. I just prefer being in one.

Edited cause I realized it needed it.

Whether editing is the reason for that lack of explanation. The husband is overlysensitive, insults his wives with demaning comments, and then expects them to work together. For me polygamy is about being a unit. It is working towards the greater good. Building a solid foundation in which it is held together by faith, morals, and love.

Kody made it appear to be a "need" more than a "want".

I know this isn't applicable to all poly dynamics(thank goodness ), but just in that situation
