It's annoying as hell my whole T zone is dry flaking an lizardy skin ish,  have sehborric dermatitis on my scalp all over it and on my face. I break out with a huge itchy red welt like bumps all over my head and on my face basically where there's hair like above my ears, and my hair line,  in my eyebrows  and I have skin problems on my nostrils, the skins dry and flakey and I have about 5 to 6 what appears to be black heads constantly, they never go away. by the base of my nose.

Well anyway, and every time I go to the dr, they say it's Seborrheic Dermatitis  put cortisone cream on and moisturize or put Selson blue on my skin, but the Selson blue burns my skin:(.

They suggest Selsun Blue because the active ingredient will kill the fungus.
You could try a different anti-fungal, one of the creams such as those containing ketoconazole, clotrimazole or miconazole and use that with the hydrocortisone cream.

Washing your hair frequently, and using the Selsun Blue to shampoo every other time to balance out the irritation.

Taking a B vitamin supplement might help as being low on those can contribute.

angelika, maybe that's why I constantly have the scalp problem it seems , I don't wash with the Nizarol or the Selson very often I wash once while I am itching horribly, that stops the itching, and so I don't use it again till the itching comes back and is driving   me bat shit crazy. I guess I should wash with it more regularly, and not just once a month when the itching is bad enough to hurt.

The dr gave me some medicated lotion for my scalp, but it didn't help the itching, and it made my scalp icky cause it was runny. The cortizone started drying my skin horribly the moment I started using it so then they told me not to use it any more, but then again, like you said there's other creams and what not.

Are you using a prescription cortisone cream?
Try using the cortaid over-the counter one that has moisturizer in it...or alternate them.
Don't use that unless you need it.

And perhaps using the anti-fungal shampoo just once a week will be enough, but it is important to wash your hair when you need to; you don't want to give the fungus stuff to feed on.

I would give the B-vitamins a try too.

anjelika admittedly sometimes I don't take the greatest care of my hair,  shampooing wise, but yes, normally I do wash my hair often as I need, when my dermatitis isn't bothering me once a week every week is often enough.

The dr says for the 1 percent you don't need prescription just good old fashioned over the counter works fine. He said he could give me 2 percent non OT, but he said he worries it'd be to strong and damage my skin.  I really probably do need it since the skin on my forehead is horrible, it's like dry and splotchy and red and Daddy jokes I look like a dried out lizard.and the danger in my eyebrow's is really bad.  You can make it "snow"  if you  moved my  eyebrow hairs left to right. And not just a few flakes, but like enough to leave about 10 splotches of danger on my shirt. And there's still dander stuck to my skin an roots of my eyebrows.

I think its time to rethink this statement if you have yet to conquer your problem.  If you haven't killed the cause of the problem its just going to flare up again.  The shampoo or whatever product you're using (like the selson blue) is the carrier for your technical "treatment".  It sounds like you aren't giving the anti-fungals anywhere near enough chances to stop the dermatis flare up - so instead of preventing it you're just using it to lessen the effect when it is at its worst.  Since you aren't actually stopping the yeast from forming and causing the issues its never really going to stop.

If you have burning issues with the selsun blue, you might want to try a similar product.  I would suggest thinking about head and shoulders (or any other dandruff shampoo with a different active ingredient) since they use a different method which in theory should not give you the burning sensation.  They also have quite a few conditioners (all which should contain pyrithone zinc a different anti-fungal) so you can "treat" without having to actually wash and potentially dry out your hair which means you can "treat" much more often and perhaps actually see a real difference.  It would give you an alternative to shampooing while giving you a chance to actually heal.

DameBruschetta, Yeah, I did say maybe I wasn't washing enough with the medicated shampoo, but in the past, once a week every week with regular shampoo is enough to keep my hair and head clean, under normal circumstances.

I think I'll need probably though to use the medicated shampoo more often than I have.

If it is Sehborric dermatitis, then how come when I get hot or stressed it instantly shoots my head into a desperate outbreak of itching an welts? Is dermatitis something psychosomatic, or could the dr's be misdiagnosing it?

Stress aggravates skin disorders. It probably is diagnosed right, but with the change of weather it's flared up. Skin diseases tend to flare up for no known reason. Use the medicated shampoo twice a week for about a month.

If the Selsun doesn't do it, look in the shampoo aisle for a medicated shampoo that contains coal tar. Smells awful but works a lot better.

DesFip, that makes sense. It's just basically around all the time, it doesn't always bother me, but my face is always a horrid dry flaky mess where it is flaking.

But yes,  wash with the medicated shampoo more often, and if that's not helpful then I can try something else like coaltar.

tazzy, I am really really lucky that no*rmally I have zeroe problems with acne, black heads included, but lately I been getting about 7 all on different spots, usually my lip my chin and 4 or so clumped in a little group by my cheek just under the round "apple" of my cheek.   When I was a teen I used Bior  or Saint Ives skin peel masks and I really liked that, perhaps it's time to go back to using stuff like that again.

Stress does a lot of things - including hives.  It can certainly increase or cause some itchyness, but by reacting to that you're making your skin break and be stressed... when it is already stressed and not ideal.  You just end up making a not good situation worse.

DesFip, & littlewonder have a serious point about the hormone issues and flare up comments... but it will most likely be a huge guessing game trying to figure out what is causing what and how to treat it.  Stress can def. be a HUGE factor and not easy to get rid of.  You can however prevent your dermatitis from flaring up so much in the meantime.

You wash your hair once a week? Okay first of all you hair is exposed to the same dirt, grime, chemicals, products, etc. that your skin/face is. You shower and wash daily right? The first thing I would suggest is at least shampooing daily. I take two showers a day, and wash my hair both times and condition, it hasn't caused me any issued.

Aynne, Yes, only once a week sometimes twice a week, it doesn't even begin to show signs of being dirty, or greasy before then. And I suppose then people could ask well do you wait for your body to show signs of being dirty, an then the answer would no. However I've done it this way my entire life of bathing myself and washing my own hair with out input from a parent controlling it, and never had problems till I started to about a year go.

littlewonder, I finally asked the dr to do a hormone check on me for the facial hair issue, and I haven't heard back from her. I have asked for a reference to a dermatologist, but every time I ask my dr, and any dr I had seen in the past, just said that's sehborric dermatitis, this is what you do, an it goes no farther, but of course this time I could put my foot down and insist and not let them shuffle my request off so easily.

This.

Also, you have long hair and I assume you wear it loose when you sleep - everything on your hair, is on your pillow, which unless you sleep on your back the entire time gets transferred to your face. Running your fingers through your hair then touching your face gets what's in your hair on your face too.

I'm not a dermatologist and I'm not familiar with your skin condition but if you're having the same problem with your hair I'd presume that's where it's started.

Also it's possible that since you're coming up on winter the dryness in the air is making your skin flake more.

Also make sure that you're changing your pillowcases at least once a week, and if the symptoms start to diminish maybe consider replacing your pillows so whatever's in them doesn't go back to your face/hair.
