Im suprised about one thing though. The right seem to think the Tea Party will damage the Deomocrats, when thats not the case. The majority of the Tea Party support seems to come from the right, and not the left or center.

Becoming?

Your point being?

That you've had a fair few third world country boxes ticked off since the late '80s.

Ok, let's go with that and see where it takes us.

Some elaboration would be nice.

Yes,the Founders thought rebellion against Great Britian was a capitol idea.Your point is?
Hopefully you are not going to try to make a case that the Founders put together a gov't so deficiant that they anticipated the need for future armed insurrection against the very instrument they gave birth to.Please don't attempt this...those fine gentleman deserve better than that.

Not only that, but every time someone brings up some such fantasy, I just have to laugh.

A military rebellion in the U.S. would be over before it started.

Rambo wannabes are no match for U.S. forces.

Whenever you look at why revolutions happen there are clear and concise reasons for it.

Either the country is ruled by a foreign power and not those living there or the population has been forced to choose between deaths IE either starving to death or dying killing those who caused them to starve. Often the military will be part of the revolution themselves, in fact in many places it’s the military you have to watch carefully to make sure they don’t revolt and put their own choice in charge.

If your family and everyone you knew was starving because of poor management while those who ruled lived in luxury and waste you would revolt with the right leader. However as the country is a democracy not a monarchy or a dictatorship you get the illusion that you can change things with a simple change of party, that is what stops the armed revolt of the citizens.

The fat contented sheep do not care if a few of them are picked off to be slaughtered by the shepherd, it’s the starving and hungry pack of beaten dogs that will turn and not care if they are killed in the process.

You need to establish that cause and effect.

The Whiskey Rebellion pretty much settled that silly point. Seems President Washington didn't agree.

I'm having trouble matching that imagery to the face beside it

But you're exactly right, I think, on all points.

Yet again you misunderstand me.
You assume the military would break cleanly to the side of the government.....

You need to learn to flesh out your arguments.

If there were a military coup here, it would already be over.

But in your fantasy--if the military is on the side of the insurgency, why is it crucial the insurgents have weapons?

Undermines your original point entirely.

But then, you're making this up as you go along.

"None but an armed nation can dispense with a standing army. To keep ours armed and disciplined is therefore at all times important." --Thomas Jefferson, 1803.

Even Tom thinks we should cut military spending!

Now, if we're arming people in place of a standing army, fine.

But clearly, insurrection is not his intent, but rather, national defense.

Did you miss the word cleanly?

Militaries have fractured before; militaries will fracture again.
There was this little thing called, in my parts, The War of Northern Aggression....

Secession is hardly the same as insurgency.

For starters, there's an alternate state behind the action.

So which state(s) are seceding this time?

Enjoy. Frankly, Lincoln should have let you just go the last time.
