GOP congressional candidate Stephen Broden says violent overthrow of government is 'on the table
WASHINGTON – Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden stunned his party Thursday, saying he would not rule out violent overthrow of the government if elections did not produce a change in leadership. In a rambling exchange during a TV interview, Broden, a South Dallas pastor, said a violent uprising "is not the first option," but it is "on the table."

I see it as a blatantly stupid comment.

A threat? To be honest, i dont see a threat.

Sedition? I dont see it as a call to rise up against the government.

Posturing? Absolutely!

Stupid? Insanely so.

He is feeding into what he perceives as the fears of the american voter.

Someone clue him in that we arent all as equally stupid as he is.

Texas politics are always whacko.   Rightwingers take posturing as threats constantly.  So I suppose its a threat.  It isn't sedition until he does something substantially in that direction, I don't think.   Hard to make a case out of one drooling dipshitted comment.

happy to see that his party squished it.
Theres many thinking about  it, im sure one of the less lucid on this board who loves gators loves the thought.
its doesnt take much to go from posturing to violence, especially when you have a group of fanatics angry over election results.

Sedition. FBI should arrest the man today and lay charges. Anything less is simply ignoring the uptick in calls for violence from the right.

tazzygirl -> RE: Is this a threat? sedition? or just posturing? (10/22/2010 7:22:17 AM)

He isnt calling for it... just predicting its possibility.

Huge leap from that to sedition.

Have to admit, I dont know the terms for actions that would be counted as seditious in the US and I really dont have time to look it up and inwardly digest it.

They are gonna throw that boy under every fucking bus that runs (even the chinese made ones).

They can hardly scream in chicken little style, 'constitution, constitution, communism, socialism, anarchy', and not run like jail bitches from that sorta shit.

Its a pattern. If it isn't taken in hand things are going to get out of hand.

We`ll have to send him the death panels for some 2nd Amendment solutions.[:D]

"We have a constitutional remedy," Broden said then. "And the Framers say if that don't work, revolution."
Which amendment guarantees the right to revolt?

And, to hear them tell these tea baggers are all about the "rule of law". Send in the FBI!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't the governor of Texas want to secede from the union because of Obama?   Well, until H1N1 crossed the Rio Grande, that is....

~FR

Sedition is the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power. Treason is the violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or state, giving aid to enemies, or levying war against one's state. Sedition is encouraging one's fellow citizens to rebel against their state, whereas treason is actually betraying one's country by aiding and abetting another state. Sedition laws somewhat equate to terrorism and public order laws.

Exactly. He should be arrested promptly

tazzygirl -> RE: Is this a threat? sedition? or just posturing? (10/22/2010 8:20:02 AM)

First, one comment does not make a pattern.

Two, he doesnt call for it.. he simply states his opinion that it will happen. If that sedition, then those calling for the end of the world in 2012 are in the same boat.

slvemike4u -> RE: Is this a threat? sedition? or just posturing? (10/22/2010 8:23:40 AM)

A good many years ago some particularly irresponsible Dallas newspapers speculated on whether or not a certain young Democatic President would leave Dallas alive.....that young President did in fact leave Dallas in a pine box.
Incendiary speech has consequences

What people are referring to is in "The Declaration of Independence"..Which of course is a fairly important document on it's own.

The man is stating the obvious... The left will finally come to understand that they will NEVER PREVAIL in controlling this nation... NEVER.... what ever price it takes...whatever the consequences... this nation will never be a socialist nation.... We learned much from the methods of the Viet Cong, and those lessons apply here as well....the will to be governed comes from the CONSENT of the people, and we will NEVER CONSENT to Obama's views or the views of the left.... if you want insurrection, then keep thinking you will prevail and you will get just what you fear...and that is the violent uprising of the people across the land... we will NOT allow the left to rule this nation...NOT NOW....NOT EVER..... Freedom will prevail....whatever the price it might take....that is not just a promise....its a certainity..... the delusional leftest think they are sooo clever...but once the people have had enough, the hounds of hell will be unleased, and once in motion it will lead to final rejection of socialist leftest idology here and perhaps across the world.... the left is DONE.... November 2nd is just the start....

Candidate running for office in the US. Using his abilities to transmit his message with the media. What do you believe he meant with that? He was just stating an opinion? I don't think so. I think you underestimate the power of the airwaves on people.

Secondly, saying the world may end and calling for an armed uprising are two entirely different things
