Electrocautery brands are not temporary. They may fade some over time just like strike brands do, but they're just as permanent.

Steve Haworth is the person responsible for popularizing the use of electrocautery devices as body modification tools. He's been doing them for quite some time and you can see examples of healed brands on his portfolio page.

I have a 2" triskelion surrounded by a ring of intertwined thorns tattooed(tattoo'd?) on the inside of my right forearm. It really only gets seen when I offer a handshake or raise my arms above my head.
I have yet to have anyone recognize it's meaning though. Not many have even asked about it but they don't ask about any of my other tats either.

Here's a nice saying for 'ya.... The only difference between those with tattoos and those without them is that those with 'em don't mind if you don't have one.

I have a trisk ring (bought from quagmyr) that I wear (left hand of course) daily. When whim strikes I will break out one of my leather bracers and wear it on my left wrist. When they issued us clear plasctic nameholders at work I immediatly put a 4 inch static cling trisk symbol on mine. I have had quite a few people ask about the bracer, not as many notice the ring, and just about everyone at work knows my lifestyle.

It may well be that they are confusing it with the yin/yang symbol - I have had that happen to me a number of times - asking which school of martial arts it was associated with - boy were they surprised by the answer

Is there some meaning for you with the "left hand thing"? Having looked at your profile could it be something to do with Gor? I read the books years ago but don't remember anything specific about the left.
I do seem to remember something from the 80's regarding the differences in left and right...it was something about bandana's in the back pockets of gay men. Not being gay myself I didn't worry about it too awful much.
Is there some similar signal system within our community? I am not currently aware of one if so. The reason I chose the right arm for my tatoo was simply that it is the hand that is offered for a hand shake and I had a different tatoo planned for the left.

A note to mention with the pen, it is also bad to do a enclosed brand with this unless done in parts and given time to heal.

Am not sure if it is a regional thing or lifestyle wide, but generally if you are 'flagging' left (with leather, bandana, trisk symbol, or what have you) it means you are a dominant- if 'flagging' right it means submissive

there are, of course, exceptions (masters whim, wanting to look symmetrical, etc.)

to the best of my knowledge it is not Gor related, is just a convention I picked up from various researches I made - and it does seem to have had its start in the gay community, but has transposed over into the lifestyle - you might try google searching under hanky code for more info

It is not gor related. The left side / right side thing was originally a way of signalling one's desires and intents in pre-stonewall queer society. It got very quickly adopted by the hetero leather community, and then has gone in and out of fashion, much like hankercheifs and keys.

It is my understanding also that in wearing a symbol on the left side of your body, be it hanky, ring, bracelet, anklet, it is like a wedding band in it symbolises a committment, in this case to a lifestyle. *shrugs*

Thanks for the input. I doubt if anyone speaking to me would have any questions about my sexual orientation nor whether I am D or s....lol
I still like the tatoo right where I put it and I doubt that I'll worry too much about future tat or jewelry placement. Personally, I watch behavior and look at body language for the clues I need in making my choices. They tend to be much more accurate and telling than some out of date clothing/jewelry placement code.
