That was kind of my point, Isabella.  Nearly every American has access to the internet and literacy here is purportedly in the high 90's.  Furthermore, 9/11 was a far more important and close-to-home issue here presumably than it would be for people in faraway Afghanistan.  You'd think people would want to have a clue about this if we were committing 150,000 troops and gazillions of dollars to it.  But I guess American Idol was more important to their lives.

Of course, we also had an administration that had wanted to invade Iraq since before the event and was pounding the Saddam-9/11 association on the evening news nearly every night.  Perhaps folks here simply figured that no Commander-in-Chief would be so dishonest as to deliberately mislead us on who had attacked the country.   I've been trying to explain this statistic to myself since I first saw it.   It just boggles my mind.  And the press seemed to be only tangentially (at best) interested that we were diving into a war for which the vast majority of the country was entirely misled about a major justification (and which was not in the least bit of dispute among national security analysts).

Perhaps it is just that they do not have cable and thus no access to faux news

Kandahar is the second-largest city in Afghanistan. It has its own airport.

East buttphoque alabama also has it's own airport.

We're not talking about nomads on the fringe of civilization here.

Obviously you have never been to afghanistan

Also isn't Fox on basic TV anyway? XD

Perhaps in the u.s. but doubtful in afghanistan

Well you'd also think the Afghanis would want to have a clue about the constant bombing going on down the street...although 9/11 was merely the catalyst, the main goal of the war in Afghanistan was to overthrow a despotic theocratic government and replace it with a working democracy. So the premise of the video clip the OP posted wasn't exactly on target.

Yeah, it blows my mind too...though from what I remember the administration was pushing the WMD thing more than the 9/11 thing...just using phrases like "national security" and "potential attacks," but anyone who bothered to pay attention to anything would be in the 30% minority.

But anyway this thread's about Afghanistan, not Iraq...if we're going to fault people for confusing the causes of two separate wars, we can't really bring Iraq into a discussion about Afghanistan, can we?

They're probably a lot more likely to watch Eeevil Islamist Propaganda networkAl Jazeera, at least until Fox starts providing Farsi broadcasts.
(Maybe Fox should start doing Farsi broadcasts? Glen Beck might drop dead of apoplexy if they expect him to rerecord his giberish in mooslim talk...)

That said, al queda is not the Taliban (who are more Pakistani than Afghan in most cases, and a long way from Kandahar), so possibly there's less concern about that since the fuss over bin Laden died down about ten minutes after Afghanistan was invaded?

I agree, that's why I say the premise of the OP's video is flawed. 9/11 was just a catalyst, we went to Afghanistan to take down the Taliban.

The OP's video would be like saying...92% of Nazis have never heard of Pearl Harbor...so we should stop attacking them.

Perhaps of those 92 % of men who did not recognise 9/11 were more concerned about the running of their day to day lives in bandit country than wondering what was happening in places they had never seen nor were ever likely to go to, it just does figure on their radar. Afghanistan is nothing like any of our countries and in places very third world, what with marauding gangs of brigands and regional war lords they have enough on their plate in just surviving than wondering what the rest of the world does, if that is they think of a world outside their own and neighbouring lands, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and China, where the ancient trade routes ran, their trade I believe was mined lapis lazuli, which was at the time of the Russian invasion, still being carried over the mountains by pack horse.

The Taliban and the government of Afghanistan aren't really on talking terms. That's a big part of the reason you're occupying the country in the first place, is it not?

No, the reason we are in the country is because the Taliban was the government of Afghanistan and they supported and financed Al-Qaeda training camps.
