You say yourself you are finding a way off welfare and back to your more productive life...good for you. But you miss my point... there are those that take advantage of the system and in doing so bring on complaints and restrictions that affect all not just the abusers.

Frustration with these abusers I believe could be what brought on the comments by Mr Flight. He may be forced to apologize but I would bet his sentiments are shared by the majority of people in the UK. Just my opinion however and as Moonhead pointed out I can not properly gauge your countries political climate. But if you are anything like the US then your reactions will somewhat match ours.

Point taken, but there are from my perspective, after three years of it, no advantages of the system, it destroys people.

The abusers of the system are those that work and claim unemployment benefits and other assossciated entitlements fraudulently, and am not saying an unemployed person who earns a fiver for doing something for someone, although that is technically fraudulent, it is not a means of making a living whilst on benefits. The people I am highlighting are those who neglect to inform the authorities that they have gained employment and continue to say they are unemployed when they are required to do the bi weekly joke centre visit to declare they are looking for work when they already have it. There are similar instances with child benefit also.

But regards Mr Flight and his comrades in faux pas, a more fitting punishment or education, depending on ones perspective would be a fact finding mission, a few months on the shop floor so to speak, so they can understand the realities as it faces those people Mr Flight and others, are clearly out of touch with.

I believe something similar was recently done with the Homeless, famous faces including that dispicable scrote Lord Spencer Churchill, an aristocrat that lives in a palace get an insight into homeless reality and a very rude awakening in the BBC documentry, Famous, Rich and Homeless, the series is on Youtube, and is very worthwhile watching, if you are interested, although I dont know, but I expect the situation is similar for your own homeless.

But as we all know reality is something most people hide from and is best glossed over, but there is a change since the programme, more people are aware of the homeless so that is a good thing at least, but I am just waiting, for it is bound to happen something will be made about the realities of the people on welfare.

It's interesting that the focus, as usual, is on benefits and not tax evasion, which costs the UK 15 times as much in lost income.

At £30 billion per year, fraud in the UK is more than twice as high as thought, with tax evasion costing the public purse over £15 billion per year and benefit fraud just over £1 billion.

Given the new standards Blair's company has set for hiding money in tax loopholes, what else do you expect? Cameron luuuurves Blair the way Michael Jackson used to luuuurve underaged boys...

Sure, the poor ones breed more and vote socialist. As Lady Margaret Thatcher said, "Socialism works great until you run out of other people's money." Last great leader the UK had. Pity.

And those who pay cash-in-hand for work done by those who they pretty much know are claiming benefits at the same time.  That is, many of those who employ cleaners, painters and decorators, builders, bar-staff . . . etc, etc, etc . . . .

We read about these sorts of fraudsters in our newspapers, without whom benefit claiming by those who are working couldn't happen . . . er, pretty much never, actually.  I wonder why.

Ah, Lady Looney.   I have such fond memories of that rancid old bat blubbering outside No 10 after the Tories booted her out.

And the bankers, don't forget the bankers . . . .

But these are all fine upstanding people, Hertz.  That's why we don't hear about them.  Also, the one thing we all know for certain: if there's something wrong in society, it's always, always, always going to be the fault of one group or another at the bottom of society.

Thatcher was where the rot properly set into politics. I hope she's enjoying her Altzheimers. She deserves it.

Thatcher will always be the target of the hard left Lucy. It allows them to absolve lunatic labour and militant union policies that bought the three day week and rubbish piled in the streets to the UK.

Gawd, PS - not just the hard left.  She came to be hated from most, all the way to those on the centre.  She was even hated by one-nation tories - those of the stronger and older tradition in the right wing.

While I dont disagree about labour Polite, they fucked up much but Thatcher was bloody evil, I remember the 3 day week, the power cuts , the rubbish. I even voted for the witch.yes I was young and naive and will never ever EVER vote for a tory again.EVER. The crap that happened because of that cow and her ilk destroyed any faith I had in any government since.
I know you and I differ here but at least it will give me something to "punish" you for when I get to meet you:)
Im kinda thinking about standing on your balls saying "say it ,say it Kinnock, Kinnock, Kinnock (please see the Palin post for a hint)
(Ive been out of the country for too long) heeeeeeee
just kidding , sorta

Lucy, if you get me saying Kinnock Kinnock Kinnock then you will need to punish me again....for laughing.

As for Thatcher, I have said before and will probably say it again, she gets a lot of stick for stuff that was going downhill long before her time in office, such as manufacturing. The thing she doesnt get much stick for is financial policies followed by every government since. Her two biggest crimes in my book were selling off the energy supply companies and deregulating the building societies.

Eventually yes but initially no. Many applauded her stance on the unions, me included. Like New labour, she got to think she was invincible and wouldnt listen to advice. It didnt help that she had so many self serving twats in her cabinet.

No question about it Lucy, but union leaders and other politicians of the time need to take a fair share of the blame. My premise is if we hadnt had the strife of the 70s Thatcher wouldnt have been voted in for a second term, or even a first. The Falklands affair helped her cause.

But isn't that the very essence of conservatism ?

In which case they were only being true to what they believed in.
