as for gun laws, its odd that people point to the second amendment when protecting the right to bear arms

when its pretty clear that the second amendment was meant to protect the peoples ability to overthrow the gov when ever the need arisen

So it's pretty clear that we shouldn't legally have handguns(completely useless in an uprising these days)

But fighter jets and RPG's should be legal in all fifty

And at least one privately owned nuclear weapon lol

If I remember right, pepsi had to give out a boat load of cash(after a wrongful advertising lawsuit) when some kid actually got enough pepsi points to win a harrier vertical landing jet that they showed in commercials a couple of years back

Joke motherfuckers, until they come for YOU.

You think this is a joke ? You think this is fun and games ? Maybe the Bible was right, and now is the time of rapture. You no longer care about self preservation. Die then. Not much I can do about it. Now if you wanted to live that would be a different story.

Pam, I can't believe people don't know this. The fact is you will live forever the minute you don't want to.

Termy I was having trouble figuring that one out, too!

ETA:I don't have an arsenal, but what I have would take care of an intruder handily. I don't practice nearly as often as I'd like. My dad sold his wooded property in Minnesota, so I haven't practiced in a while.

I have in the the past been bonded to carry a firearm.

Maybe I should explain.

It's when you don't fear death that you can really live. It's when you don't fear rejection that you can really approach, it's when you really don't fear censure that you can really speak.

Fear governs us IN EVERY WAY, and once the base of fear is destroyed all constraints are destroyed. When, not if but when you get to the point in life where you don't fear death, what could they possibly threaten you with ? Fuck "who are they", WHOEVER !

But mind these words, in no way does the lack of fear of death equal any suicidal tendency, in fact quite the opposite may be true, once truly free, you may fight for life with renewed fervor. To take life and SIEZE IT however it comes. That is the indominable spirit of Man, and this means Women as well, I am from the old school. Sorry if I bothered you.

The fact is I don't give a fuck. My car is a piece of shit that is going to the boneyard and I either buy another or walk. I can't see the numbers on the buses, I (nobody can) afford to take cabs all over the place and I only know one person who drives who doesn't have a job. I am at least half blind, more than half according to my ophamalogist, I am recovering from some unknown illness and am not completely through that, what's more I have maneuvered things to ensure a happy inheritance the other year and dealing with a REAL court case. And you know what ?

I don't fucking care. I was born with nothing and I will die with nothing. Even if someone takes my life, we are even.

I mean it, and the possible thrills are abound. If I ever get into the cockpit of a plane and want to take off, I will figure out how to start the thing. You think a Man of logic such as I would think to just land, return the plane and everything would be hunky dory ? Fuck no. I would crash that plane.

But into what ?

You see I do not project (in the psychological sense). It would be wrong to take a bunch of people with me to meet our maker(s), and that is why I won't do it. But be warned, if you ever get the drop on me you better be pretty fucking sharp. I'm willing to die, but not by the hand of sonme maniac, or who knows. I'll kill them, if necessary with my own hands if able. Yes I will fight for my life, but because IT IS MINE, it is mine to give or spend as I see fit.

I am not a child, I do not hold on for dear life, I do not embrace the "fact" (read idiocy) that life is precious. I think that's a copout. If they take a tumor out of your body are you concerned with it's well being ? Hell no. In the same way I think of the entire human race. And if indeed I, myself is that cancer, then I will die, and that will be that.

Hi, Susan.I do get the feeling that a lot of Europeans feel as you do.  Let me give you a few answers.

1. Unfortunately, foreigners such as yourself get a vision of an America that is a bloody 24/7 riot.  We do in fact have occasional incidents but they are overblown.  I am 54 years old for example and cannot remember the last time I saw a gun, save on a cop or security guard.
2. The original concept of the right to bear arms is that the government's power over its citizens is limited. There are times that that's a wonderful thing.
3. Aynne mentioned some self protection ideas.  There are also those that like to hunt.  Another legit use of guns.
4. Politically speaking, we have the National "Rifle" Association here.  It's a misnomer because it actually is pro-gun, not just pro-rifle.  Its lobbying power is legendary and no GOP lawmaker would dare cross them, and Dems are leery of crossing them as well.

The population that I honestly wish wouldn't have guns, actually would not disarm simply if ownership became illegal....

Steven,

I have this horror of guns, typically European I know, and the only time I looked down the barrel of one was in LA, I think it was 99 and I was robbed, it made me like guns even less.

I understand that the US are vastly different in that respect (especially point 3 and 4), let's say there are not a lot of guns in the hands of private citizens in Europe, sure some of the bad guys have illegal firearms but really not that many of them, and the incidents and accidents tend to be a lot less.

It took me ages to understand why somebody would like to carry a gun, but as you said, in the US the people who shouldn't have them but do have them seem to be the ones who wouldn't willingly give them up in case they became illegal. I can understand it is a tool but given the amount of accidents, the Columbine incident, etc. I would think it would make sense to raise the bar a bit higher and have stricter laws about who can have them and maybe include licenses like driving licenses. I'm aware that wouldn't take care of everything because even with a driving license you can cause accidents, but if people would be better educated, maybe they wouldn't leave guns about where kids can grab them, and it might cut down on the number of people who have guns but serious anger management issues.

On average, it makes me feel a lot better to know that it isn't very likely that a criminal is carrying a gun, but then we don't have the problem of criminals being already armed to the teeth.

I think it is maybe 25 years since I seen a real gun in person.   (other then a cop)

It is not like in the movies.  I live in a red neck area.  People have guns- like every house- but  you would only see one if you break in.

It just is not an every day thing like in the movies.

It's been less than a week for me. My brother had his muzzle loader out and we were taking turns playing with it on Christmas. Nothing says Christmas cheer like the smell of gun powder in the air

Good god, I am watching the psycho from the UK right now I believe you call him the crossbow killer. One woman was cut into over 80 pieces, before being killed a torturous death that must have been the stuff of a horror movie. If one of those women had a fucking firearm and used it that man would not have done what he did.

So tell me again why having guns is a bad thing and why the UK is better? If by better you mean more at risk of being killed by psychos, yes, they are.

My equalizer of choice. It fires 8 rounds, not the standard 6, and I love it. By love, I mean love it like something that could absolutely save my life and yes as Zevar mentioned I know how to use it, I am an excellent shot. I also don't panic under those types of situations, I know, I have pulled a handgun before on some would be robbers at my house, it wasn't this one, it was an older .38. Did I get robbed? No. Pretty simple.
