I've used this 'technique' on my slave several times. (out of interest, he did react fairly differently on each occasion.)
He found it very hard to take initially the first time I used it and a caning would not have been possible.
On another occasion I was able to cane him, but not for many strokes(!) There's also a possibility of the ginger coming out if the strokes are fairly intense.
I will continue to use it when appropriate as it's certainly produced a worthwhile reaction [:D]
