The head of surgery just gave an interview…they had 10 transported…one is dead…5 in surgery all in critical condition. The congress women is out of surgery and he is optimistic about her condition.

This is a sad attack.From what I have heard,she is still alive.This isnt about Republicans vs Democrats.I wouldnt want to see this happen to anyone.I know it was easier for this lunatic to probaly get a gun in Arizona because of Arizona relax additude on guns.However,like Rapier said,over in England,that person just used a knife instead.The sad reality is,theres always going to be some fringe nutjobs who really dosent need a reason to kill someone.They are just naturally sick,demented people of society who need to be locked away from society.The weirdo drawing crazy pictures and talks about destroying the world,are the ones society should keep an eye out for.Remember Virgina Tech,that guy has warning symbols written all over him.His weird drawings and weird behavior,should be a warning sign to the rest of society.However,even with the best measures put in place,there always seem to be some weirdo who is able to "sneak in through the cracks".Honestly,anyone famous nowadays,should have good quality security around them.I remember when the Democratic challenger for Flordias governor,Alex Sink was in my town.I had a chance to meet her.She had literally no security guards around her.It was nice to meet her but she probaly could have used some more protection in such an open area.Again,at the end of the day,what can someone do.Even with the best protection,these weirdos seem to find a way.I just hope the weirdos who do this,are already locked up in the "looney bin" where they belong.

WTF? Where the heck do you buy groceries? I've never seen a grocery store with metal detectors.

Weirdly conflicting official reports, as is to be expected. Apparently she suffered a through-and-through head wound, with the bullet passing through her brain, but is expected to recover. OK; I'm sure that will all be explained later.

Meanwhile, two suspects are reportedly in custody, one of them a white guy named Jared Laughner. So much for the Mexican drug cartel angle. 22 years old, miltiary veteran who served in Afghanistan. 3rd suspect reportedly still being sought.

I remember when former President Bill Clinton came here to St.Petersburg,FL,just a few months ago in October 2010.They was no guard at the front door with a metal detector.No patdowns from any security guard.I mean,anyone was basically able to just enter the frontdoor with no problems.I was shocked.This is a former President of all people.I thought they would be having the metal detectors,plus tons of security surrounding Clinton.None of that.Again,it was nice to be able to see Clinton in person.I think he did a good job as President.Still,for a former President,he could have used better security precautions.Just saying.

And I think this just may be the guy - he posted his "final thoughts" on YouTube 3 weeks ago. The spelling of the name is a little off, but he lives in her district, and he's clearly crazy as a bed bug.

The news just said it was a nine month old. I thought it was a little girl too.

I really hope this thread doesn't go down the line of gun control or politics. This is a horrific situation and it might be nice, for once to have information dealing about the topic of what has happened without a lot of politics or social issues about it.

I dont have TV. SO I missed the grocery store locale.

With the recent bombs- kinda odd they throw a festival with no metal detectors.

I mean- dont these reps have body guards?

I know theres a difference bewteen knives and guns.Guns I feel are much more dangerous.All I am pointing out,is that a determined lunatic is going to find a way to complete their "mission".Using whatever weapon is available to use.It dosent matter to them if they have to use a pencil.Although,I still think Americas gun laws need to be reformed.Arizona does have the "old wild west" mentality when it comes to guns.Again though,New York state has a very strict gun control policy in place.Yet,2 years ago in Binghamton,NY,that guy still had a gun and wound up killing may people.Another sad example of some lunatic on the loose.

I have two on ignore Lockit... but otherwise so far its pretty much stayed off the blame game which is appreciated by me at least, I hope it does , at least until the facts are known.
Lots of stuff out there now regarding the shooter/accomplices.
Ive read too many ugly responses on other sites to expect it not to happen here eventually
but hope lives on:)

This is obviously very tragic and yet not all that surprising...in the America of today.

Believe it or not kinkroids, this is exactly how it started in the streets of Germany when the Nazis took over. Hitler's rhetorical speeches about the 'vermin' the 'rats' otherwise known to them as Jews. Here we get other speeches and by many.

Now we get secular, socialist, communist, African anti-colonialist. Inflame some passions in the many, inflame then more with such talk as '2nd amendment remedies' in a few, come 'pack'n to a few rallies and then...all it takes is one to go over the edge.

What got him to the edge ? The continuous demagoguery and lies from the right wing TV propaganda and their media sycophants. I personally have no choice but to lay my first suspicions about this right there.

Many supermarkets and Wal marts have detectors that you pass through, that detect whether you have any items that have not been desensitized and will alarm if you take something not paid for. Not the same thing as metal detectors, of course, but it may have confused hunky.

There are several threads current for gun control- debate.

For this thread- the facts and MOTIVE is of interest.

No one wants to rehash the same worn out political threads- that one can say the next line to.
