I had wax ones, I wore them when I shared a room with my brother, and his wife, he snores too, but not so bad as Daddy. those didn't bother me so bad, but they did get squished an pick up lint one time which was kind of amusing to me:) I could also hear my heart beat with plugs in, but that didn't bother me I thought it was rather cool. Fortunatly for what ever reason daddies snoreing quit an he only snores if he's sick or thirsty.

Yeah, I think you'd need to be more than 20 pounds overweight for it to contribute to snoreing, I am talking like seriously past your healthy weight, like someone weighing 300 pounds when they should only weigh 135.

I have also heard it's from the soft pallet collapsing in, and then it vibrates, they have mouth guards that push your jaw forward, and supposedly stops that. but I've never had Daddy try them.

There are also some newer foam designs, made as a result of the latest noise regs (SNR39). I use "Ear Soft FX" for biking, and when I'm staying somewhere noisy, as I find them amazingly comfortable compared to more traditional in-ear plugs, and the amount of noise they block out is impressive. Might work for you guys too.

Val snores on occasion. I nudge him a bit and he usually stops. If not, it's earplugs or sleeping on the couch. :-)

My dad used to snore so loudly it would literally shake the walls of the house and though he slept in the front bedroom, downstairs, and my sister and i were upstairs, in the room to the back of the house, we could still hear him loud and clear. Granted, we lived in an old farmhouse built around 1880 or 1890.

He went to an Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) specialist, who had some scans done of his head and throat, and they determined it was a combination of smaller than normal nasal passages combined with larger than normal tonsils and adenoids (sp?). He had a sleep study done, then had the tonsils and adenoids removed, his nasal passages surgically widened, then a second sleep study was done. The surgeries helped, but not completely. He now uses a BiPAP machine, which he was told is better than the CPAP, and instead of the regular mask, he uses the nose pillows. He said they're more comfortable than the mask.

My suggestion would be to see an ENT and have them check your nasal passages, sinuses, tonsils, and adenoids, to see if there's any irregularity to any of them. If this is already done, then the best bet would be to warn subs before things move past simply play and into something more serious and to find alternative methods if you simply cannot handle the machine. The mouth guard is an option, unless you have a habit of sleeping with your mouth open, as are the breathe right strips. Another possibility: one of those beds that mechanically raises the head and/or feet some, or a wedge under your pillow to elevate your head.

Hope these suggestions help.

Hilly, will getting your nose repaired help this?

About the soft wax earplugs, I wound up at the ENT last year for something else and he discovered that my hearing difficulties were due to the wax having migrated deep into the ear, right up against the drum. Having those pieces removed was no fun.

Ok, I'm an oddball, I like sleeping with a snorer. It actually helps me sleep more deeply.
I snore when I'm over tired or congested.

But as everyone has said I would be concerned about the health issues.
Is it something that surgery might fix?

My ex-husband snored when he was on his back, and it was especially bad if he were very tired or drunk. When I nudged him to roll over, he would do so and stop. His snoring was not an issue until I quit drinking and started sleeping lighter. We got separate bedrooms, but there was a definite loss of intimacy.

I started using ear plugs a few years ago and won't sleep without them now. I like Mack's Ear Seals: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=macks+ear+seals&x=0&y=0

The string makes them easy to find and they are washable. They used to be $1.87 at Wal-Mart but now I have to get them online. I buy by the case. One pair lasts a few weeks.

Note: these are very attractive to kitties so don't let them dangle within reach...

Anyone that snores sleeps far enough away from me that I don't have to hear it.

A LeeAnn that does not get a good night's sleep is a VERY cranky LeeAnn.

As noted on the next page there are numerous options are far as machinery goes.

Sleep apnea leads to other issues; it is not benign.

See if corrective surgery might help and then try to find a machine that will work for you.

My dad snores as if he aims to take down all the trees in our forest and I blame that fact on mums hearing loss, which she has when she suffers from a cold

My mum never made an issue out of it and sleeps next to him.

My grandma used to snore (so am I told) and I don't know if that is the reason but she and grandpa used to have seperate bedrooms on seperate floors (though that doesn't mean she snore that bad).

I know that my brother was annoyed about me in that respect when I felt asleep on the sofa as a kid but as far as I know it appeared to have improved since my tonsils have been removed when I was 18....my dad still has his ones *lol*.

Since then I never heard complaints about it (not even when I spent some days in a hostel with friends in Ireland where it was a big topic as one guy snored just as bad as my dad..) but I know that Mr. complaintsabouteverything I met last march mentioned it...

so I decided to better warn my next date

and nope..."this" isn't the warning for him, he got that one already last week

Bingo. My ex-husband snores like that. He also stops breathing for up to a minute at a time 5-10 times each night. Unfortunately I never convinced him to see a doctor about it, so he probably never will.

D snores. loudly. he even provided ear plugs to guests sleeping in the guest rooms upstairs, if they need them.

i, however, must be an incredibly deep sleeper, because once i'm asleep, his snoring doesn't wake me. i don't usually even have trouble falling asleep, head on his chest, while he snores, although perhaps that's because our time together can be limited and therefore, rather exhausting...

the one and only time his snoring ever woke me was when he rolled over in the middle of the night, cuddled up behind me, tucked his nose right behind my ear...and resumed snoring

anyway, the point of this rambling story is...if you're really worried about your snoring disturbing your sleeping partner...perhaps you should just make sure they're good and worn out before bed. works for us!

What We did (a sad tale):

i suggested seeing a Doctor.

He tried breathe-right strips.

i suggested a decongestant to reduce mucus membrane swelling.

He would forget to take them.

i slept on the couch.

He insisted i waited until he was asleep until i went to bed.

i tried earplugs.

He didn't like my ears being chapped from wearing them.

i used noise-canceling head phones.

He disliked having to wake me.

i considered "Operation: Burning Bed".

He suggested i take an OTC sleep aid.

i took them and still couldn't sleep through the noise.

We divided our households.

i hadn't slept properly in six months.

That first night was fucking bliss.

He was totally offended when i mentioned that.

i suppose i shouldn't have.

Now, we're Facebook friends.

I can well understand people getting totally pissed off with other people snoring their heads off.
It also seems that it is very common for people getting older to snore louder and louder.
I think if you already have a partner you sort of grow along with the snoring... both my Husband and i give concerts at times, i suspect too much cheese is to blame
If you are unlucky enough to have to find a new partner who you want to live and sleep with you.... and you snore like an elephant farting.... oh dear you have a problem...
I would advise you to be honest about it when you have to... like not on the first date or even before first sex, but definitely before you actually sleep together... as it seems unlikely that she will not notice... even if you make sure she is asleep before you start sucking the curtains in.
If you are incapable of using a machine and there seems nothing to be done about your affliction then perhaps your best option is to look for a deaf girl...
Who knows... maybe you will be lucky enough to find a woman who doesn't mind and snores even louder than you.
