How wonderfully ironic this thread has become. You guys just aren't doing much to restore my basic faith in humanity.

That's because you have faith in the the wrong aspects of humanity. Once you accept humanity for what it really is... an overly clever, agressive, species of primate that thinks much too highly of itself... it is easy to have almost any incident reaffirm your faith.

A bunch of guys fly airplanes into buildings convinced that their invisible sky daddy will reward them with virgins for eternity? Ah... good ol' humanity.

A deranged lunatic shoots some people and other people who don't give a shit about the dead feign outrage in order to advance a political agenda? Ah... good ol' humanity.

Man with small dick blows a gasket over a joke? Ah... good ol' humanity.

As for those moments that run counter to such expectations:

The person, late for work, who pulls their car over to help a stranger in need...

The person who quietly opens up a local clothes closet or food pantry rather than waste their time and energy stroking their own ego (look at us! We care! We're wonderful people!) by protesting that the government should force others to solve such problems...

Those who interpose themselves between the weak and helpless and the aggresive and hateful...

These are the things give me hope for humanity.

I can see how jokes can be -- irksome.

Poster number 1.  Just got up- has high energy level.

Poster number 2,  had a long LONG day- low energy level.

The two clash- and from there it goes from bad to worse.
