That is due to most business students forgetting that if the Federal Goverment were to run itself 'like a business', then Mr. Obama would have a yearly salary of about $75 million with benefits. I dislike how conservatives have run my nation over the last decade; have I ever given you the impression this wasnt true? When Clinton left office, we as a nation, were about to remove the national debt once and for all. All G.W.Bush had to do, was not touch ANYTHING, for two years. A few months in, and under pressure from those that voted for him, he created a series of tax cuts, that years later, would end up hosing the goverment and giving the country a little over $11 Trillion debt to deal with in 2008. And did any of those 'fiscal conservatives' keep things in line? course not!

If you want to have '...checks and balances...' in goverment, its a two way street. If your going to blame the Democrats, you have to equally blame Republicans when they F-up. On these boards, we have not observed you railing against Republicans who have screwed up the nation.

Yes, I seem to recall folks screwing up on the Big Dig, and it killed some woman when a huge 'I' beam crashed down on a car she was riding in. The folks that F-ed that up, hardly got a free trip to the Bahamas.

Mass Health's overhead is like 6%, while the best private insurance company is running in the double digits. Are you arguing that Mass Health's overhead should be inflated to equal those insurance companies?
Since we are running 'Goverment' like a 'Business', does that mean if the goverment is down in revenue it can just create revenue from its 'sales guys' (aka TAXES)? According to you, 'yes', the goverment can raise taxes, at will mind you, to make sure they are running at a surplus (aka PROFIT). You sure your still for running 'Goverment' like 'a Business'? Need one more good example?
If 'Goverment' ran like a 'Business', then the upper level 'management' (i.e. the Governor) could decided how the 'enterprise' will be run, retaining full control over the rules and mechanisms. That way, he and his staff dictate how things will run, INCLUDING giving himself a pay raise. You didn't mention if that 'business' entity was a corporation or a sole proprietorship. Corporations have stock holders, sole proprietorships dont; They get to rule as kings.
THAT, and a host of other reasons, is WHY, 'Goverment' ISNT run like a 'Business', popeye1250!

Take an even CLOSER look at the companies that engineered and constructed that tunnel. Now, look at the companies that were given 'No Bid Contracts' for the Iraq War. Notice anything? Wasn't just Democrats that screwed things up. In fact, $15 Billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the $3 Trillion price tag for the Iraq War.
