If there is group, the members could be tracked down. The software I use doesn't even require a username. You might remember the post about "them" salting the gnutella network with bogus files. It's like a land mine now. They "share" the bogus files, apparently to me, because there isn't a damn thing other than that they can do about it. There is no server, each computer on the network shares a timeslice of their processing power to make the network work. You have to have the CORRECT version of the software and never accept an upgrade. Big money people view this as stealing. Public domain is gone. You've seen TV commercials start to use old music extensively, they saw a profit in it and somehow bought the rights to everything in public domain. Consider nothing in public domain, and fair use only covers excerpts, not the whole song/movie/show. The only safe way to have blog, site or something like that is to make it members only and by invitation only. It must be secure, or eventually "they" will come. That moderator is not correct when it comes to fair use. If that was so everything on my harddrive is there for fair use. Don't kid yourself, owning a website does not make one a legal expert, and even if it did, the law will be changing as the lobbyists pour in [the money]. I also now have software that can capture right from steaming audio or video. The one program that does audio only was written in 1992 ! Both programs are free. The audio one is called Cooledit, and is a bit tricky to use, but it does work. If you can use it effectively you don't even need a P2P program. Almost everything you can get on P2P is on youtube. In fact some things you can get on youtube have never been shared on P2P. You probably did the right thing, but if TSHTF they would most likely go after the site owner. Thus the spread of P2P software. In fact I heard that if you have an older version of Napster it might just work. They have found the authors of the later software and forced them to cripple it, that's why the version is so critical. What's more using the right software to play the files is important. Windows mediaplayer must be setup not to contact the internet. Acquire licenses ? NO. If it requires a license just delete it and find another copy. When in doubt use VLC. Since they are such pricks I am tempted to sell my collection. " This harddrive is $250 " " I can get one for $55 online " " Not this one ! " LOL. Actually I saw an ad for a "full" harddrive on craigslist not too long ago. Ummm, I don't think it's wise to sell something like that publicly. I talked with one of my lawyers about patents, and how they are not self enforcing. He told me there are companies that get paid literally, to go shopping. They do nothing but look for patent infringements. I suspect no less is true of the RIAA and MPAA. So watch your ass out there. T^T
