We had one of these here in my neck of the woods yesterday. A couple local assholes dressed up as home health providers kicked in the door of a house at 9:00 yesterday morning, only to find themselves facing an armed resident. According to the local news report, they headed back to the car when one decided to turn around and move back towards the house. That one got shot, dropping his stethescope, cell phone, and some paperwork that took the cops right to their door.

What I don't understand is why people for guns are often against laws requiring training and certification.

With the proper training and equipment there should be very few accidental shootings.

Just try and get a law through in Missouri requiring a testing procedure for certification of ownership and the Republican congress will laugh you out of the state.

I just looked up people who have had weapons discharge while cleaning them, it isn't as unlikely as you claim.... soldiers have it happen, as well as law enforcement... why don't you write those people and tell them how dumb they are instead of belittling 13 year old children with your blathering

Yea, if you believe bullshit. Tell me how someone is into guns and maintaining them properly, yet can't tell if the fucking thing as loaded. Riddle me that.

You can come up with all the statistics you want, but the people who say they were cleaning a gun but didn't know it was loaded are full of fucking shit, hands down, plain and simple. You oil the fucking breech and chamber too you know. The reciever, all that. What now "No I only oil the trigger and the barrell". Bullmotherfuckingshit. Ad if you look at the design of most firearms, they are specifically designed NOT to fire unless you pull the trigger. You are not fooling me, I am just here to tell you to stop fooling yourself.

This is the same kind of nutty argument the NRA nuts make every time and every time they're pulled up by the vast weight of statistics which demonstrate:

A) Private firearms are more of a danger to yourself and your loved ones than anyone else.
B) Given the expectation of homeowners with firearms, criminals simply arm up themselves.
C) The resulting heavily-armed society is a violent one with simply enormous levels of gun violence. Homicide due to firearms in the USA is roughly 85 per million population. In New Zealand which has relatively liberal private gun ownership but places restrictions on military-style semi-automatics and focuses on vetting gun owners themselves rather than specific firearm classes, the homicide rate is 13 per million.

This means that we have less than 50 homicides per year, while the USA has 25,000-30,000. And let's not forget the number of people in that list who take their lives with their own weapon.

Sorry gun crazies - this one example doesn't change the fact that more people die every year due to your obsession than are saved by it. Nice try though.

Nope, my portent was sound. You grew up in the suburbs of the suburbs of the suburbs then. A horse farm ? I doubt I could have more than two horses here. I am in the city, and from the city.

We al have our horseshit to deal with, in your case a shovel would work, but here we got crack and smack addicts. Dealing with them is not as easy as dealing with horses. The only advantage is that if I need a car battery at three in the morning I can get one in fifteen minutes.

Hmmmmm.... my view points are based upon my personal experience. I do not try to change the law to conform to my "views", but at the same time I can't stand falsehoods standing as truths to support viewpoints so rigid that there is zero compromise with them. People so rigid that they brag that if we changed the laws they would start shooting people to protect their rights, etc.

Like I said, people want to own guns, fine by me, but I know that many innocent children are dead because of this decision. More innocent people die from gun related accidents than bad guys getting nailed by home defenders. It is what it is....
