Several posts on here about safely meeting and the like: what always amazes me is people who put accounts up in their own names, or with obvious links to their own names. This seldom seems to be experienced people who have made a positive decision to do so, but often people who just do it without thinking.
One new guy signed up the other day, with what looked like his real name. Just to prove the point to myself, with no expertise, just google I was able to find his date of birth, company email, university, etc within a couple of minutes. I'm sure he is by no means alone in being that easy to track down.

It scares me the danger people put themselves in without even thinking. Maybe there should be some common sense safety guidelines on signup?

Your concern is valid enough. However, there will always be newbies to the net ( professional newb' speaking ) and some people just gotta learn the hard way.

And there will be some people who will create accounts using the names of people that they know for the purpose of creating trouble for them.

Some people feel they have nothing to hide, and they might be right about that....at least for them.

It depends on your career path, your family situation, etc etc etc, as to whether or not you care if people link your name with a BDSM site...

Personally, when I live in a smallish area I do not put a recognizable photo of myself on here, that to me is just as dangerous as a name.

Plus if it's a common name, you could be googling the wrong Jane Doe. Just because one person with that name popped up, doesn't mean it's the same one.
