From a purely personal perspective... I have had no problem completely sanitising any 'insertables' made from latex, glass, rigid plastic or metal. As long as you follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning then there shouldn't be a problem. When it comes to butt plugs, I prefer latex for extended wear. This is simply because they're more flexible, although I have to be careful because I show an allergic reaction to some kinds of latex. Flexible means I know I can move around without it getting too uncomfortable. However the flexibility of latex means it is more likely to split. At this point you need to bin the plug as it becomes simply too difficult to sanitise effectively. Glass is second best, but it's heavier and less flexible, so internal length becomes more of an issue. I love the sensations of it - being more rigid makes the sensations more intense for me. Metal is very heavy and I find they give me abdominal cramps. I don't know why - maybe it's muscle spasms in reaction to the weight - I dunno. IMO - flexible for extended wear, rigid for short-term play. I'm sure others will have different opinions, and hopefully their answers will help you make your decision [:)]
