OMG...I have just SUFFERED through the worst allergic reaction I have ever had.  I used H&S citrus scented shampoo and my scalp, hairline and forearms broke out in a HORRIBLE rash.  I'm on steroids now and the rash is drying...along with the rest of my skin.  This should take a good six months to clear up.

I had the same with that Fruit something or other...the commercial they tie the girls hair around a pole....Any way...I used that and My neck, face and all around the hairline area was broken out, bright red pimples like stuff and OMWord did it itch!

T-Gel(1% coal tar) is the  only thing to keep My scalp thing under control and not cause rashes.
I use conditioner but not on the scalp,I tip My head over and only do the middle down.

Edited to make sense...LOL

Thanks Sassy...I've used T-Gel and it works.  Actually, as  sensitive as my skin is, it seems to like coal tar for whatever reason.  Go figure!

I haven't read this entire post, but I had a pretty severe burn from bleaching my hair, did it right to the scalp like a drunken idiot  lol

Hydrocortisone ::LOTION:: healed it and eased the itching/burning/peeling amazingly well.  I tried the cream like my doctor said, but it was too thick and I couldn't handle the feeling of always being 'dirty' or something.  Then I looked and saw lotion, tried that and it was love at first drip   The stuff I used is called Cortate, but there's probably other brands, just make sure it says lotion (by lotion, they mean liquid that has thickness to it; it's liquidy enough to be in a bottle like eye drops come in).  I could even put it on my hair and wear it during the day, it was completely not noticeable.

Hope that helps & you get better soon, it bites

Feline, it really sounds like a form of psoriasis.
See the doc, there are fabulous prescriptions out there now that will clear it up in a jiffy.  Will clear up the flaky skin on your eyebrows as well.
good luck.
T.

I want to thank every one who's offered support and kindness during my distress. I went to the dr's and he diagnosed it as seborrheic dermatitis.  I've been told to shampoo everyday for a month w/ith selson blue and it should stop.

Thing is like I said it's very particular spots that itch and hurt. high above the ears the crown of the head, and the nape of the neck sometimes.

i had the EXACT itchy/scaly spots you describe, which appeared only a couple times a year, for several years (but for a fairly long period).  i was tearing myself apart.  i finally got tired of wasting money on anything and everything that might help and went to the doc.  She said it was a form of psoriasis and gave me a shampoo and a lotion (which did not create an oily residue).  The rx was for something called Clobex.  The condition cleared right away, and i have not had a recurrence.  That was over a year ago.  It was worth the effort.
