very pretty sentiments, but you still can't seem to explain why despite the fact that the definition of the word delusion describes religious belief perfectly, you feel it shouldn't be applied.

the fact that it works for them is fucking irrelevant, many mentally ill people find great comfort and meaning in their delusions.
Wow.  I gotta tell ya that, having been raised by one fine man, who worked his ass off, and did all the good he could for everyone he came in to comtact with, never having a holier than thou attitude, but just doing it because his beliefs told him it was the right and good thing to do, one who never asked for anything in return, just did good every fucking day of his life........

You insinuating that it was a mental illness that caused him to have his beliefs and be the man he was, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Thing is, he would still help you in any way he could, and tell me it wasnt my place to judge.

Too bad I aint fucking mentally ill enough to believe the way he did, cause I find you to be one helluva first rate close minded ignorant asshole.

If that's your idea of reason, then I think the point goes to him.

i don't think i've ever claimed that i am completely fucking sane.

but rather than dodge and redirect, why don't you explain to me why religious belief shouldn't be considered a delusion?

Because, like Mark, I'm smarter than to get into a pissing contest.

The burden of proof is on the party making the positive claim.

I've already pointed out the problem you've quoted above.

The Christians I know are great folks, living a life to be the best they can be.

Fanatics of any kind, and anyone who thinks theirs is the one true way, they are scary, no matter what laabel they choose to wear.

There are many people, both Christians and non-Christians, that believe in: Live and let live and To each their own, as long as they are able to do the same.
I rather spend time with a caring non-Christian, with a beautiful soul, than the most devout Christian with an ugly soul.

[...............the american heritage dictionary has the following definition of delusion: A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence,...

In order for that to be true, you would have to disprove the existence of God. Fucking ([;)]) go for it.

Hebrews 11:1
The Meaning of Faith11Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

I would love to stay on the thread but can't. Have fun!! Play nice.

But, but what about the ignorant, mean, fanatic non-Christians, that hate Christians?
Shame on them also?

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Thousands of classes/types of Christians/Christians are not one size fits all! (6/28/2011 8:21:31 PM)

look i got no fucking issue with the ethical teachings, its the theism that is the delusion.

and its actually you guys who are being close minded. you're insisting that just because its an unfounded belief in a deity, it's not a delusion.

why does belief in a deity get a pass, why is that particular type of belief not held to the same standard as other beliefs with no basis in reality?

No. They're insisting that you've yet to establish this, other than by your own belief.

Im one of those wierd people that believe in live and let live, especially if you are not hurting others.
I find it more than interesting, the amount of passion and energy displayed by both believers and non-believers in trying to convince the other side, in what they should believe!
lol

This thread was not started as a "Come to Jesus or Christianity" thread, I started it because I wanted to list some of the names of the thousands of Christian groups, that practice Christianity in a variety of ways.

As always, we get several non-Christians that begin the "Prove GOD is real" mantra.
It happens on each and every thread related to Christianity on CM.
lol

This would be the dodging and redirecting you were bemoaning.

I've already pointed out the flaw in your approach, and you've acknowledged it. We're done here.

If you fucked less, you would have more time to consider ethical teachings. I deplore this American language.

in other words, you can't actually dispute my claim, but don't have the fucking balls to just say so.
