Both. It wasn't an either or. My post followed the history of the word, which has been used to mean: 1. a dirty, slovenly, or untidy woman 2. idle woman 3. an untidy man 4. a kitchen maid, a drudge 5. woman of loose character, bold hussy 6. a playful use, apparently ok to apply to a UM 7. a euphemism for bitch to describe a female dog over a history that goes back to the 1400s. The point is, words evolve and their meanings change. Lets take a much newer word. What springs to mind when you hear the word 'geek'? Depending on your age, it is probably either a computer whiz or that bookwormy guy/ gal in high school with straight As and no dates. It's a word nearly everyone in western countries is familiar with, and the definitions are clear. That said, the 'real' (original, that is) meaning of the word 'geek', which dates back to 1915-1920, is: quote:
a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken. While one can sort of understand the progression, can it really be denied that at some point, the 'geeks' took over a word that was clearly meant to be derogatory and changed it? Really, on a site where 'submissive' has become a noun, a 'slave' is someone in a consensual relationship, humans are referred to as 'property', and all the other ways we have redefined words (just like people on a bazillion hobby sites, gamer sites, career sites, etc have and continue to do), balking at the concept of the word 'slut' meaning anything other than a woman that will fuck anything with a dick is more than a little silly, IMO.
