A woman had some rough sex to cure own Post Traumatic Stress Disorder:
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/reporter-mac-mcclelland-stages-rape-cure-post-traumatic/story?id=13995013

The article does not exactly talk about bdsm, but I think they just don't want to call a spade a spade.

Maybe because I'm a sub and have experienced similar catharsis, but it makes perfect sense to me.

there's her actual article if anyone cares to read it.

there's all sorts of criticism about it (and about reporting from Haiti in general, like this article -- http://www.mediahacker.org/2011/07/on-journalistic-malpractice-mac-mcclelland-and-haiti/ )

but anyway, i guess i mostly agree with hejira.

well i do know it has put my spine back into alignment ;) . agrees with above.

The logic behind this, is that to take another stressful situation and let them come out of it unscathed....gives them power of the ptsd.... they are back in control, makes sense

This.

My lifetime isn't that long, but I can still look back and see the point where rape wasn't talked about, much less methods for dealing with the fear that it created in both its victims and the people that had to see the aftermath. Good on her for a forthright, unapologetic article about her own experience.

I think a lot of women who are raped have strong feelings to return or revisit the trauma to understand what happened to them. Children who are often sexually abused will play out what has happened to them to those around them. The biggest point in this article that stood out to me was that she is in THERAPY or was anyway. That is so important. Women who do not seek treatment and use rape fantasy to revisit the trauma without mental health treatment could find themselves retraumatizing themselves. Or making matters worse going with a partner whom they believe they have trust and then finding out that this may not be the case.

PTSD is serious and should be treated by a professional who specializes working with them. No dominant or vanilla partner should take that place.
