*raise taxes

Could you explain the real world implications and practical applications of these items listed from your perspective?

I also would enjoy listening to the "real world implications and practical applications" of:
---adjusting social security
---adjusting medicare/medicaid
---cut spending
---raise taxes

Do these real world implications involve seniors going hungry? eating dog and catfood? being pushed over cliffs? people retiring and getting jack shit from social security?

ESPECIALLY, in this current economy, recession/depression.

I am enjoying this thread, and I actually find myself agreeing with many I usually do not, when it comes to the subject of a VAT tax.

I could agree with a VAT tax if we had universal health care and we actually knew that the money that was garnered through the VAT tax was not going to be wasted and actually lower the debt, and not used for policies that many of us don't support.
.......................I have serious issues with WHERE the actual money would be going?????

Where the hell is all the money that I pay in taxes going NOW?????????
Show me the money!
Our economy is like a bucket with a huge hole in it, and most of the money that is being collected is going out the bottom of the bucket.

The hole in the bucket needs to somehow be fixed, before "most" American citizens are going to go along with VAT taxes and tax increases.
Something is not only rotten in Denmark, something is rotten in the United States.

How do you spell D E P R E S S I O N?

So why what are you whining about. The number of different taxes?Like that`s important?

Life`s complicated and complex and not easy for everyone to get their heads around it all.

Whining about how it works is like whining about the traffic.

Meaningless.

That`s why folks crave simplicity,so they can understand things.

Like this dummy

My point for asking and listing all of those taxes igitgidget is to show people just how many taxes we already pay....Maybe it will wake people up a bit. I know I don't go around every day thinking and counting up how much I pay in actual taxes.

I think we pay enough though and I think if people sat down and figured out their daily tax over a year, they'd soon find out it's a good chunk of their income.

Nobody is whining..it's called discussing and voicing concerns. Now maybe that's a whine you've got going because you don't like what's being said? Why does it seem like you can't handle the truth? (Maybe you can use this in a way that backs up more taxes and spending)[:D]

I spend A LOT of time figuring out the taxes I pay.
Hey my cable bill is right here, I was looking at the taxes on it today![;)]

Taxes and fees and surcharges on cable bill below:
Communications Sales Tax
Pub, Ed & Gov. Costs
FCC Fee
Local Sales Tax
State Sales Tax

Many people have NO idea how many taxes and surcharges they pay between Federal Taxes, State Taxes, Property Taxes, Sales Taxes, Taxes on Utilities, taxes on this, taxes on that.

I am one of the few that looks long and hard at every little fucking tax and surcharge on my bills and lately on my receipts when I make purchases also.

I really don't think many people have a CLUE on how many little taxes they pay.

I suppose they'll have to actually balance the budget and spend within their means. Wouldn't that be a gas.[:D]

wow...(shakes head)  "geeeeeeeee...what should we build our roads with doooiiii"  Ummmm...Owner, the Garden State Parkway and the NJTurnpike...where do they get the money to maintain those?  How much in the way of federal tax dollars goes to support the GSP and the NJTurnpike.  Do you know?

We have plenty of money for roads and infrastructure.  If you watch the leading economists it is said over and over again, we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.  What exactly is it that you do not understand?  Look, we don't have plenty of money for free medical care for people who contribute and have never contributed anything.  We don't have plenty of money for nation building.  We don't have plenty of money to support people that don't work. If you had a flat tax and a federal income tax, you would see more money in the U.S. coffers than at any time in the past 100 years.

Owner59 -> RE: Should the US have a VAT tax? (7/7/2011 7:55:55 PM)

We pay over all some of the lowest taxes in the world(1st world contries)

We get to keep more of what we earn than most every other country.

If you whiners think you can find a place with a better deal,MOVE THERE.

Okay so maybe you can answer my question then. I'm really curious. What would be your percentage of the actual taxes you pay, for as many as you can think of, out of a yearly salary?

Well, I am a home owner so I get a few pennies back on that.
I went and got my current pay stub, I pay AT LEAST 30%-33% , of my yearly income
on Federal , State, and Property taxes.
**Also in Northern Virginia you also pay a Car tax!!!

[sm=river.gif][sm=river.gif][sm=river.gif]

Do you think I should just go ahead and pay 50% in taxes?
How much is fucking enough?

I'm glad you brought that point up. :>

Man how people have lost their way when it comes to how their country was founded to start with. Thank goodness we pay less than all the rest but that's by far not the best we can do and it's no wonder we're like that too right? Our history might have played a part in that and I think it'll play a part in the coming future as well. One day hopefully sooner than later people will wake up and recognize the similarities between the past and the present. That day, no matter the chaos that might ensue will be a great day.[image]http://www.collarchat.com/image/s2.gif[/image]

I say yes, let's cut through the shit and round it off..If they promise, cross their hearts and hope to die, that they won't ask for anymore. Even 50% it is![:D]
