LOL, Crash Test Dummies would possibly more painful than hearing the drill, my dentist offers headphones but it made me even more nervous, as I know something is going on and I can't hear it, he said that happens a lot, now luckily we share roughly the same taste in music, so we have often 16 Stone blasting and if it's going to be tough, he'll let me have some Dylan (which he hates) and says he will suffer along with me. He also reminds me of breathing techniques from martial arts or yoga, which tend to take a lot of the stress out, something I should remember myself but I'm often too nervous to think about them without prompting.

He totally won me over at the 2nd visit when I was a shivering mess (still) and didn't believe him that it wouldn't hurt, he gave me some kind of fork and placed it on his leg and said "If I hurt you, you can hurt me back - trust me that I don't want to hurt you?" That really broke the ice.

I think Crash Test Dummies are a love 'em or hate 'em band, there really isn't an in between.
I LOVE them (so does my preschooler) and my Husband wants to jam a pencil in his temple every time he hears them (his words, not mine)

Some years ago I had an interview with Brad Roberts and it kinda clouded my perception of their music forever (not that I was a great fan before) but the guy certainly has an ego the size of Canada, declared that they're the only Canadian musicians out there that are doing anything noteworthy and nobody else counts, I blinked and gulped and mentioned a few names like Rush, Neil Young, Nickleback, Melissa Auf Der Maur, the Wainwrights, Bif Naked, Alainis Morisette, Amanda Marshall, Loreena McKennitt, Lee Aaron, he all claimed they were trivial and then went on to bitch that Lee Aaron once posed naked, so I suggested he could do that do, he pitched a complete fit that he's a proper artist who would not take off his clothes EVER, so I joked that taking a bath and sleeping with clothes must be uncomfy and he pitched an even bigger fit that I deliberately misunderstood him.
The odd thing is that he was so keen to be called Canadian but the whole time just bitched about Canada and the music scene and musicians there, and how he hates ice hockey. It's kind of expected that musicians are a bit self-obsessed or else they possibly wouldn't have the guts to go out and play in front of an audience, but most of them are at least mildly entertaining, the guy just drones on, kinda like his music. When I went back to my editor he asked what he said, and I said "Not much but he did use a lot of words..."

That would definitely change a person's perception of their music. I had a similar experience with Wolfmother. I actually can't stand their music, but my Husband was working a show for them (he's a lighting designer/stage hand/roadie/whatever) and he called and said they weren't going to feed the crew (strike one against them), so I brought him up some dinner. Nothing fancy, just some sandwiches and whatever, but I figured since they had an early afternoon sound check and an evening show (strike two, making the crew sit around for HOURS and not letting them leave) I would just eat dinner with him.
So I get to the venue and we start to eat. Just by happenstance the band passes through the stage area where we were eating and they just STARED at me. I was going to offer them a turkey sandwich (because I'm a bit of a smartass like that), but I don't tend to talk to the bands. About 2 minutes later this lady comes up to us and tells me that the band is not comfortable with me being there because I may take unauthorized pictures of them and that they would like me to leave immediately. By this point the band had gone out to their trailer and we were finishing up dinner. It was just strange, I have been around some pretty big name bands and NONE of them have acted like that, they have all been pretty cool, taking care of the crews and not minding if the wives/girlfriends pop in and out. It just left a really bad taste in my mouth.

That is seriously odd, most musicians actually make a point that the crew is fed and that passes or at least tickets are available for the spouses, I once commented on it because I overheard that one of the quite big names in the biz was insisting that the crew gets the same catering as the band, I mentioned that it's quite generous and the guy said that the crew works a longer time and harder, last thing the artists want to do is piss them off, because a good show depends as much on them as on the musicians.
Oddly enough when I worked as a music journalist, the real big names (with few exceptions) were courteous professionals, the one hit wonders tended to be the ones with the shitty 'tude.

Wolfmother worrying about unauthorized pics, I mean duh, maybe they should worry more about sounding like Jimmy Hendrix Lite?

Often times it's the big names that are really great to their crews, they understand that without a first rate crew you are going to have a terrible show. The crew are the ones who make everything happen!
The only other negative was Smashmouth. They were playing some rib fest and the drummer wouldn't stop bitching because he said the lights were too hot. Well DUH! it's summer, you are playing outside and you have stage lights on you, it's going to be HOT. That's your JOB, please deal with it. He was complaining to my Husband saying that it was HIS fault that the lights were so hot on him. I mean seriously? How can you possibly be in a band for that many years and not realize it's going to be hot as balls on stage?

Had my big appointment yesterday and made it through!
All I have left is a root canal and extraction. I have an appointment for the root canal on Thursday. I'm not even that nervous because it hurts like holy hell and I just want it fixed (they drilled it out and left the nerve exposed).

I discovered that most of what they were doing to my teeth was removing all the old metal fillings and putting new ones in. It was a LONG time in the dentist's chair (a little over 5 hours), I'm still sore today.

I'm kind of worried because they want the $1400 for the root canal up front and I only have about $600 (much of it in rolled change, lol). Hopefully they will take that as a down payment of sorts and let me make payments.
This is a different dentist so I am on my own.

The root canal was EASY! They need to do some PR or something because it wasn't bad at all.
Now, granted, I was blasting through the Novocaine almost as fast as they could inject it (with the adrenaline and all....), but they tried to make it as pleasant experience as possible and I really didn't feel anything (I would feel something and they would give more Novocaine, eventually he just started injecting it every 5-10 minutes).
Honestly, almost 5 hours and 45 minutes in the chair 2 days before, that hour was a breeze

Now did you ever expect to describe a trip to the dentist as "easy"? Look at the progress you've made. I am so proud of you!

The only time I ever had pain with a root canal was with one of my molars. The root is super twisty and the dentist had trouble maneuvering the little brush around the corners so to speak.

No, I guess I never did expect it to be easy, and it really WAS! Wow!
I mean, I did have some pain and anxiety (obviously, I mean, my heart rate was through the roof!), but the specialist was "warned" about my issues and was really nice about everything and did everything he could to help ease my fears (I think it helps that he used to live behind my FIL and they have been friends since Hebrew School

)

The unfortunate thing about root canals (as explained by my dentist) is that they have to know when they are hitting healthy tissue so they can't really freeze you. So the first indication they have that they are hurting you is when they hurt you.

Gotta ask, are you more likely to go for regular checkups now?

I have a few more things to do, a crown and an extraction. I need to get the crown done soon, but it has to wait until I actually get a day off work.
