Yeah, I got my links crossed. Here it is:

You guys are forgetting about the inflation that is going to be unleashed with an economic recovery.  Barring another meltdown scenario, where gas gets cheaper for those who are left, $2 a gallon gas is a pipedream.

Shame this much scrutiny didn't get applied to candidate Obama's promise about closing Gitmo, huh?

General inflation yes, but oil specific inflation is ridiculously easy to reverse.

FR

Gas is already about two bucks a gallon. The rest of what you pay is taxes.

Wrong. Average gasoline taxes across the US are about 75 cents a gallon.

Termyn8or -> RE: Bachmann promises $2/gal Gas (8/18/2011 9:26:36 PM)

Bullshit. Maybe federal taxes.

ETA, in fact no, I don't even buy that.

State and Federal combined taxes at the pump. If you want to try and trace every tax down the production and delivery pipleline then youve got a much more complicated supply/demand issue on your hands, because then you have to determine how much of those taxes are "passed along" and how much of them reduce profits.

Termyn8or -> RE: Bachmann promises $2/gal Gas (8/18/2011 9:45:41 PM)

Yeah well they say there is no tax on food in Ohio. That sounds about the same.

While you're at it, why was deisel cheaper fovever up until a certain year and now all the sudden is more ? Don't tell me the cracking process changed. Get HK in here, maybe he knows. But the discrepancy there in and of itself is almost 75 cents a gallon. If it wasn't taxes, what was it ?

Supply and demand, duhhhhh. Diesel taxes are 6 cents higher than regular gas.

A lot of states' gas tax is a percent of the price, so any listing depends on that. At $4.00/gallon the total Federal/State/"other" as its called in the chart, averages 72-75 cents/gallon

According to this, it isnt quite that much.

Close enough for government work, lol. The number I picked up most likely included Diesel, which has a higher tax, may have been weighted by gallons sold in a state, and when prices were 10% higher.

The main point is that Termys claim that without taxes gas would be $2.oo a gallon is nonsense.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Bachmann promises $2/gal Gas (8/19/2011 6:02:02 AM)

Back to the OP. Ddidn't dubya promise basically the same thing as a run-up to the Iraqi invasion? How'd that work out?

It can be done. She did not tell the whole story. She will devalue the dollar and she will print new money. You will exchange approximately 3 dollars for one new dollar. This is how other countries have solved the problem throughout the history.

What in the hell are you talking about?

Ask Lisa Jackson. Ask Steven Chu...

There is and never has been an energy policy in the united states. people are too short sighted and politicians too fuckin stupid.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Bachmann promises $2/gal Gas (8/19/2011 7:28:09 AM)

You might want to ask old Sanity why it is a fact now but not when Bush was pres, lol.  Back then he was claiming the pres had nothing to do with it.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Bachmann promises $2/gal Gas (8/19/2011 7:36:26 AM)

How about we get a brain the fuck in your head.

Please point to the ACTUAL oil shortage at any time that had oil prices racing over $100 a barrel.

As usual we have a select couple of posters just making up what they wish.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Bachmann promises $2/gal Gas (8/19/2011 7:37:47 AM)

i wouldn't vote for her, even for that.
