Yes you are but that's not what I asked.

What is wrong with you?  Why do you keep buying into all of this crap?

pahunkboy -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 11:52:58 AM)

watch the 30 second clip.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 11:54:55 AM)

Ok so this is pretty easy. They didn't want to put someone in danger sending them out into the weather. Or maybe everyone refused to go out into it. I would have. Go people smart enough to stay out of the ran. It's a shame a few more of them weren't in New Orleans.

P.S. They did not fake coverage. They did report that it happened. They just didn't go outside to do it.

ETA- It is just a green screen and most large broadcasters use them when reporting the weather.

Hillwilliam -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 11:59:52 AM)

Regular SUV with a short newscaster. BFD

I should ask YOU that.    The vid is faked and that is ok with you.   Just like the protest overseas was...   and 9-11.

CrazyCats -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 12:08:34 PM)

I can understand the dislike of having news images falsified. To me, being upset about this clip has more to do with the idea of faking the news in general rather than as a specific instance. While it is understandable that one really shouldn't go out into a hurricane or tropical storm just for some exciting glamor shots, the feeling that they need to have those shots to "sell the story" of Hurricane Irene, and thus grab more ad revenue, has a unethical solution. Falsified footage does make it harder to trust their reporters when the story places them dangerous situations.

Of course, there is always the possibility that she is really short and standing on the curb next to traffic with the camera tilted slightly upwards. Video does have a way of messing with depth perception. Remember how big things looked when you were really little? If the camera is close to the eye level of a 6 year old, things look bigger, including the reporter.

Edit: Seems I was a little late with the short reporter comment.

It's not, now stop making me defend FOX

ResidentSadist -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 12:25:51 PM)

When the suv stops, it looks HUGE because it's closer and on the periphery of the camera lens.  The type of wide angle lens creates a mild fish eye effect making the suv full frame.  Watch as the suv passes behind her, you see she is exactly as tall as the roof line.  My girl isn't taller than an suv either.

The constant water drizzle in the same place (in front of her leg) makes it look like stage rain.  But it's probably driping from a from a lens shield or bus stop awning.

She turns and looks right at the suv when it stops.  Running a generic clip on a green screen verses doing a Lucas Star Wars type invisible object queues for a mere weather report seems more expensive than actually sending the bitch out on location.

I don't think this was fake.

Hillwilliam -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 1:02:37 PM)

Yeah but you're a sadist. You'd send her ass out in the rain.

ResidentSadist -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 1:23:12 PM)

If I did send her out, even you might watch the weather channel because she would be naked and strapped into a wind powered spanking device!  As the storm grew stronger, she would get paddled harder and faster.

Damn.  I can think of a lot of people in California that would pay good bucks for a cool device like that!

Come to think of it, there may be some folks in NW Ohio that want it.  There's a small wind farm near Bowling Green.  Lots of barns to keep the slaves in, and room to play outside too.

There is one little problem with your theory. She is wearing green. If it was a chroma key (green screen), the backdrop would bleed through on the green jacket she's wearing. Even if it isn't the same green as the chroma key, you would still have enough of that hue for bleed-through to occur. That ain't happening in that shot.

Edited to add: The reporter in the story is apparently 5'4".

Termyn8or -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 11:40:44 PM)

DD, chroma key can be any color. Now maybe I'll go watch the goddamn thing.

T^T

Termyn8or -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/30/2011 11:49:26 PM)

OK Hunky. This proves nothing. It's a show. Did they ever say that they were out there ? Nope. This is simple, it's no more than like a weatherman standing in front of a "screen" depicting a tsunami or a tidal wave. They do it all the time. And BTW, they no longer need a chroma key, they can do it alot better now just based on digital.

I would almost go so far to say that they purposely zoomed in on the background image enough to make it APPARENT that it was a simulation, that it was intended for effect, NOT to portray reality.

I call this a huge error dude.
