DD, chroma key can be any color. Now maybe I'll go watch the goddamn thing.

T^T

There is a reason it's either green or blue, so it can't be just any colour. Try looking it up and you'll see why.

Ok first....DD  Thank you for pointing out how unclear I was. I didn't think about the fact that some people do work in this area and might be aware, or need it pointed out, that not all "green screens" are actually green. But for the record they don't have to green or blue either. There is a magenta background that is used, in some software applications. Fxs aren't what they used to be, and no they aren't as exspensive as some people they anymore either.

*oh* and before I forget. If you want to check the magenta screen isn't always called a magenta screen either. Some call it "magic pink"

My point still being this part of the "news" isn't anymore "fake" than any other part of what we think of as news now a days.

Missokyst -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (8/31/2011 9:14:15 AM)

I thought all Fox news was fake.

When the suv stops, it looks HUGE because it's closer and on the periphery of the camera lens.  The type of wide angle lens creates a mild fish eye effect making the suv full frame.  Watch as the suv passes behind her, you see she is exactly as tall as the roof line.  My girl isn't taller than an suv either.

That's true, the SUV gets dramatically bigger as it passes by her (about 9 seconds in). I notice it also drives in toward the camera which isn't facing her right to the front but is actually to the side where the SUV pulls in which would also explain it looking a lot bigger than her at that point. For me the weirdest part of the clip is not the height issue but the juddery-ness of the SUV's movement but that may be down to an interlacing issue.

I'm not well versed in software imaging programs, but I do know that the broadcasting industry uses either green or blue and not any other colour, though it's my understanding that green is the standard.

"There is a reason it's either green or blue, so it can't be just any colour. Try looking it up and you'll see why."

I can build the damn thing, it can be any color. It is easier with blue for a couple of different reasons. Analog chroma key is old hat anyway. With digital video processing, well, it makes the best version of Photoshop look like a box of eight Crayola crayons.

Anyway, you can almost always tell when they're doing it. Now, with hi-def there are just about no technically induced artifacts like there almost always used to be, where they screw up is on the lighting. It is almost impossible to get the lighting right enough that a trained eye cannot tell.

The thing is, everything you see on TV is a show, you can't count on anything being real. If you think Maryann the weatherman is actually standing out in the rain instead of the nice warm studio, you're not paying attention. The umbrella is a prop. What you want them to do, spray her down and put big fans on her in the studio ? If I was the producer I actually would just send her outside. "For that kind of money....."

This made me laugh. It's cute how you pretend to know the technical aspects of broadcasting.

Termyn8or -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (9/1/2011 11:41:37 PM)

With a 4066 CMOS switch I can setup a schmidt trigger off one of the color feeds directly from the camera. After the video source to be inserted is genlocked (I don't handle that part, it's someone else's problem) then it is a simple matter to key the CMOS switch to completely change the background. Hell, it wouldn't even use all four sections of the SIXTEEN PIN IC that has been out for the last thirty years. It's fucking simple. Plus the fact I could probably do a cleaner job of switching using discrete components.

Wanna see a schematic ? I draw it up just for you. You think the web tells you everything don't you. And I don't care where you work, I know how to do this. Period.

Still laughing. :)

Termyn8or -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (9/1/2011 11:49:36 PM)

Fine. I know what I can do. What have YOU built ? I've built a bunch of things, audio amps and processors, specialised test jigs, things like that. Do you even know what a 4066 is ?

Interesting lesson I learned. When people say something can't be done, just take it at face value. Anything else is a waste of time.

Ok so this is pretty easy. They didn't want to put someone in danger sending them out into the weather. Or maybe everyone refused to go out into it. I would have. Go people smart enough to stay out of the ran. It's a shame a few more of them weren't in New Orleans.

P.S. They did not fake coverage. They did report that it happened. They just didn't go outside to do it.

ETA- It is just a green screen and most large broadcasters use them when reporting the weather.

There is one little problem with your theory. She is wearing green. If it was a chroma key (green screen), the backdrop would bleed through on the green jacket she's wearing. Even if it isn't the same green as the chroma key, you would still have enough of that hue for bleed-through to occur. That ain't happening in that shot.

Edited to add: The reporter in the story is apparently 5'4".

DD you got it right!....HERE is what happens when you wear green in front of a green screen  [;)]

Termyn8or -> RE: FOX fakes Irene coverage (9/2/2011 5:22:01 PM)

FR

I don't care.

It can't be done - by them, whoever they are. That's enough for me. If I do it I won't bother CM with it. Just forget it.

Oh, and those things I've built because nobody else could do it, just fucking forget about them. They don't apply.

Brandy is a fine girl and could draw a Man from the sea. The Looking Glass made that clear. But I have much bigger problems than bagging a barmaid. I only have two rolling papers left. I mean the weed will NEVER run out, but how to fucking smoke it ? that is the question.

That issue, as trivial as it really is, has completely ovrshadowed anything in the way of TV or video I have seen online. It is all bullshit, period. I don't believe a fucking frame of it. Oh, and that one frame of EAT POPCORN, I have a Sony VCR that can put that in ANY videotape, even a prerecorded one. Yup, VCRs were $99, but not mine. Got the SLV920 with a remote from a 900 or something, and a NV8500, and you wouldn't believe how I tried to get the NV8950, god damn that thing was the rock. I offered the dude $800 for it and he turned me down flat. It came from channel eight here in town. I know it was professionally maintained.

Of course you never try to chromakey off a tape, or anything actually, why bother anyway ?

But if anyone thinks ANYTHING on TV is real, you should've been around my little cousins and shit when they were eight years old becausde they knew better back then. EVERYTHING IS FAKE, DO YOU UNDERFUCKINGSTAND ?

And what about blacklighting back in the B&W film days ? And it worked on still film too. Greatgrandma might not have been standing on top of Mount Rushmore.

No shit.
