Good grief, isoLadyOwner, do you not follow any news other than on Fox? The President tried to close Guantanamo for two years, transfer those who were convicted to a prison in Illinois, and try the remaining detainees in federal court but Congressional Republicans raised such a cloud of demogaugery that he had to back away. The nonsense about sending the IRS after people who don't have health care is another bit of Fox nonsense; as in Massacusetts, there is simply a penalty one would pay after 2013 if they don't have either private insurance or buy into the government pool. And when the Patriot Act was renewed, it was the Democrats in the House and Senate who stripped some of its most-onerous provisions from the original Bush version.

As for the other right-wing posts here, about all I can say is that for some no explanation is necessary and for others it is impossible. I hope you enjoy life in Beck-Hannity-O'Reilly land.

You're really hung up on that Fox is baa-aaad thing, aren't you, Ordinary?  What's your guideline?  If it isn't on Daily Kos (and doesn't get pulled back down again) it never happened?

So ... when did the Congressional Republicans stop the closing of Gitmo?

Was that during O's first two years, when the Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the Presidency?

Ya know .. when they rammed O'care through Congress, over the intense objections of the Republicans?

It's amazing how them dastardly Republicans can subvert the political power of the holders of power, even when they have an overwhelming majority in the Executive and Legislative bodies ... [:D]

The DK isn`t injecting fake/false stories into the news stream or making up shit, like the POTUS is down with scary blackpanthers(your repost) or secretly a Muslim terrorist, etc.

Your mistaking/confusing normal opposite political POVs of normal folks with your party`s bigoted hate mongering and fear based propaganda.

Owner59 -> RE: Want to Slaughter "Tea Party Zombies"? (9/9/2011 8:42:04 AM)

I think as soon as cons started fear mongering about Gitmo with narratives of escaping marauding terrorists and (more) dead Americans,it pretty much put the kibosh on any trails of terrorists here in the states.

Did the congressional republicans do that exculisively?

No, ........did they have to?

There`s also the issues caused when bush created problems that can`t be fixed.

As fucked up and as incompetent as bush was,he was a master at creating FUBAR situations and breaking things so that can never be fixed.

Gitmo is just one example.

Butt out, Tweak.  Your loud-mouthed ignorance of why, where, and how, the uber-wealthy in my country divide themselves politically just makes you sound stupid.

An Orwell thread may be coming, though.  Save yourself for that one.

If you don't having the real effects of the billionaire-friendly economic policies you advocate here being pointed out to you, a far better solution is to re-think those policies.

The neo-liberal economics you and the looney Right espouse have had the singular effect of further enriching the rich and powerful and further widening the gap between the poor and the rich everywhere they have been deployed.

Given the current high levels of unemployment, and economic recession not to mention the GFC, it may be that this the only 'successful' effect - or purpose - such policies may have had. There's no way a case can be made that neo-liberal economics could be said to be successful with the current state of economies in the West is there? Practically every major economy in the West is a basket case.

Join the dots grasshopper.

Do you really want to get into media bias, Homophobe59?  We can do that.

If you'd like to re-air the Attorney General offering race-based reasoning in what he does, and doesn't, feel is worthy of prosecution, I'll be happy to hold your hypocrisy up for everyone to see again, too.

Oh, come on, O59, this is really, really reaching, finding some way to deflect Obama's failure to close or move Gitmo.  [sm=biggrin.gif]

It's a standard position the proggies default to, Firm.  It can never be that their guy isn't up to the job, it's that the job was "impossible."  How many times have heard over the years that this jurisdiction, or that city was, "hopeless," or "ungovernable?"  At least, until the residents elected a Republican, and the proggies were much safer, riding the subways in to protest his "mean" policies.

So tell us then, O59, why did Obama fail?

Was it because he was too inexperienced and naive in the ways of the world to understand the depth of the issue, when he promised over and over again that he would close it?

Did he understand the problems that would come with closing Gitmo, and think he could do it anyway, only to discover he simply wasn't up to the job?

Or was he lying all along, just mouthing words he thought people wanted to hear, and swelling his own head with pride, that he was so good at manipulating the fools?

I vote for this one

Confused, naive, inexperienced - not ready for prime time, in other words.

Poorly vetted by his party and by the news media, and placed into office on the heels of a massive propaganda campaign against his predecessors policies.

Obama fell victim to the confusing disinformation disseminated by his own people...
