I get a lot of comments on the posts that I write and overall, I tend to think that I would have received a pretty decent rating over the years. However, even with a fairly decent reputation, as a female Dominant, I see the potential for abuse for such a system. We would have every male sub that we ever turned down come along and "rate" us and I don't think it would be pretty. We've already got people creating numerous profiles for other reasons. They do it to send messages from multiple accounts and other such things. Yes, some of the people who view us repeatedly really DO go off to our forum posts at times to try to cause a disturbance. This would only add to the issue.

Thank you for trying to bring it back to topic. I am watching this wondering if anyone is actually noticing the amount of thread relevant postings and how long it takes when noone does step in. If I ever get some time, I am interested in the results of the two threads-on topic versus not. :) (Of course, Im not THAT interested, so I think Ill just keep idly wondering.

I can see your point, LP. Perhaps eliminating the possibility of negative ratings would solve that issue.

I'm sure there are some who might use sock puppets to bolster good ratings for a post, but I think in the long run it would work itself out. Posters like yourself are going to have many more posts rated "good" by the general population than any one person will be able to create accounts to try to rate their own.

I've been watching the thread as well. I have said all that I believe is relevent from my own personal opinion however. Hopefully some more people will chime in before you lock it.

In my opinion the whole rating posts and/or people and/or threads suggestions is a bad idea. I - and hopefully most people - are very well able to decide for myself which post speaks to me.

The more complicated a system gets - and a rating system is one more factor in a complex system - the faster things are apt to go haywire.

Would you care to say exactly why you think it is a bad idea? I understand you feel the complexity would be a problem, but as similar rankings are done elsewhere, it can be done.

I noticed. In fact I've been noticing on alot of threads. If you start cracking down on hijacks, that's going to be a royal pain in the ass because there is what's referred to here as thread drift, there are related subjects to some issues. Who is to judge ? It would be quite subjective to say the least.

Maybe the OP should be able to mark a response as a hijack. Maybe if corroborated by X members they are stopped. But even then implementation is a bitch. And what is done, are they banned from the thread or are the offending posts simply deleted ?

This is really getting too complicated. I don't envy your job. But like Mr. and Mrs KY said, thanks for asking. I'm happy enough with how it is. Sure I got a bit pissed not too long ago because there is really too much bickering lately. I don't know if they're putting something in the water or what. It can't be that, people are all over the world, although maybe if I perved the profiles of the worst bickerers I could find some correlation to geography. Advise that they move away from there ! LOL. And ironically some people are actually calming down. I'm having a hard time figuring anything out.

This site looks a lot like a SMF bulletin board and that comes with a Karma ranking option as part of the system settings. It is usually disabled. I would be surprised if this site didn't already have a similar option, although I'm not one who personally likes the Karma ranking.

I'm not sure I see how being able to rate a post as good can be abused.

As I mentioned to LP, I'm sure there are some who might use sock puppets to try to up good ratings for their own post and thereby increase their ranking. We're talking not just the regular posters being able to rate a post, but there are thousands of people who read and never or rarely post. I assume they all have their own reasons for not posting, but this way, they can participate, too.

Personally, I think it would be a good way to encourage active participation by those who would really care what their rating is. As I clearly spelled out in my suggestion, I don't think every forum should have rated posts... only those that have lifestyle and relationship topics. If someone posts only in P&R, Off-Topic, PORS or similar forums, they wouldn't have a ranking... and likely wouldn't care. If they do care and only occasionally post in one of the ranked forums, it might encourage them to participate there more often with well thought out advice.
