ORIGINAL: windchymes I am strongly opposed to any kind of rating or ranking system for people or threads that is based on the personal opinions of others. It sounds junior-highish, and will open the door to all kinds of (more) criticism about cliques and favoritism, and will be another tool for those wanting to be obnoxious and stir up trouble. I don't see any reason to have one. I'm perfectly capable of judging whether or not I think a post is good or bad, and I'm all about letting the others who read it form their own opinion, too. And frankly, I don't care what rating a post might have. I'll decide whether to read it or not based on the name of the topic and, in some cases, who wrote it. I don't feel that we need to micromanage so much that we have to give it ratings. Another forum I was involved with had a "hot" topic flag that would pop up after a post had received a certain number of views or responses in a certain period of time. It also bumped that thread topic to the top of the list and kept it there. That I don't have a problem with. The bit I bolded is exactly my thoughts also. Sort of a, why??? We already have more than enough ego stroking around here. It's the main reason I tend to avoid the Random Stupidity section.........because it is a lot of random stupidity.... TO ME. I can only read so much gag inducing "you are so special, you are so cool, you are so hot" posts without doing what the photo Heather posted somewhere this morning, is doing. They reek of "I am so insecure I need my other insecure internet friends to tell me how awesome I am!" and I am doing my own level best to not need that in my life.
