Bertie Ahern was from Dublin but he was an even bigger disgrace, a beggar man if ever there was one, constantly looking for others for money and the Manchester Handouts, a bloody big kick up the arse is what he needed, he was drawing a disgraceful salary and doing NOTHING to earn it, he got us into this mess him and the other Fianna Failures

Status: offline 		in no way am i part of the bourgeoisie as you describe it. i live modestly , i give to charity every Sunday, i give to Concern every month €7 per month, not a huge ton but there are people who make twice as much as me and they do not give this. if everybody gave €7 per month to an ngo or other charity there would not be poverty in the world. do i despise politicians? in a word yes and why? because of their double speak and their hypocrisy they talk about getting people to tighten their belts but will they tighten their own belt will they cut down on their expenses funded by taxpayer's money, will they hell, they dont, they go on expensive junkets and they make up pick up the tab. Also Bertie Ahern a Dubliner, was the worst example of leadership i have known, he was a class 1 hypocrite, he expostulated on how people should not abuse the public trust, and that there would be no room for people who abuse the public trust in his the leading party with him the Taoiseach from 1997-2009, yet he gratuitously abused people's trust as we all well know and was constantly with his hand out, set up the very costly Tribunals mainly for him, all costing tax payer's money while continuing to act the lout that he truly was, a lout, an overpaid LOUT

Culshie is a prejorative term for those who didn't grow up in Dublin. I agree Ahern is a disgusting individual but how do you make out Kenny is a disgrace? He has done a great job so far which explains why his ratings and Fine Gael's soared even after making difficult unpopular decisions in government. You act like Ahern & Fianna Fail are still in government!

Kevin you probably got a free state education at primary and secondary level, combined with a free third level education combined with a generous grant. That education was provided by the state and will stand in good stead for time to come (assuming it was a good result lol) but it doesn't entitle you to implicitely expect more than everybody else.

Fine Gael Fianna Fail they are all the same, me feiners, if you know what that means , the whole bloody lot

Status: offline 		Also do you not find this amazing, in the early years in power, there were no stories about Ahern's impropriety it only arose later, dont be surprised if we hear about corruption from Enda Kenny later down the line. Remember this : power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely. i hope not but i wont be surprised if we hear scandals surrounding Enda Kenny's leadership and how implementing savage and penal taxes and cutting services everywhere including social welfare, the one s who will suffer the most, the least of our brethern as Christ would say, how that is doing a good job, defies logic to me, but the real problem is Ireland is beholden to the parasites in Brussels, the IMF

Yet another piece of idealistic claptrap that the powers that be convey to us to try and convince us that they are with us, that we are all in this together, that we cherish the children of the nation equally, well im sorry but its total crap, this society is for the political and business elite, paid by the lower and middle classes, for the benefit of the political and business bourgeoisie who get away with paying almost no tax on their unjustifiably high salaries

Sorry I won't believe you. I find this lazy "oh they are all the same" bullshit irritating when Fianna Fail had been in power for so long and the opposition didn't have much chance. Some politicians are pretty decent actually. BTW Enda Kenny took a 7% pay cut which was one of the first things he did when he took office. All the other ministers did as well.

Status: offline 		Well the International Monetary mismanagers paid a pivotal role too but yes the main cause was the sub prime which was perpetrated in America, This lead to a massive loss of confidence in banks across the world, banks stopped lending to each other, and hence our current problem, but really it was the Americans banks that were at fault they should have never lent money to people who they knew would have great difficulty in paying it back. they should have been more careful

In many cases it has been full, meaning loss of job and in those that have managed to fortunately keep their jobs it has been a hell of a lot more than 7% . 7% is an insult, the fact is an inconsequential leader of an inconsequential country should not be earning $290,000 a year, it should be more like $100,000 a year or even less because who would argue that the Czech Republic is less significant than Ireland internationally, not many, Ireland is not a shit on the map in all senses of the word and yet we pay our leaders like they are monarchs. It is a disgrace

Bullshit, education is free. Yes it is paid for by the tax payer but is effectively far less than one would have to pay for a private education. The latter favours the wealthy whilst the former is equalised amongst all classes. All one has to do is compare inequality of education in other countries where such a service doesn't exist. Your third level education is also free when in most parts of the world it isn't. I'm planning to return for an MA next year and will face roughly 5,000 Euros in fees and a 1,600+ Euro registration free as well. That is the sort of money you would face as well if it wasn't free. Be thankful you don't have to pay crippling student loans like in other countries.

You said he din't take any pay cut but he did. It wasn't enough but it was a move in the right direction and done voluntarily. He does get too much still but ruling a country isn't a bed of roses especially when going through a severe recession so if he and the rest of the government manages to bring the country out of recession it will be worth every penny.
