Getting back to the OP, I gotta agree with the rest of the herd on this one, Meow. Your "creep sense" is of prime importance, whether online or IRL, Meow. if you got spooked enough to become defensive, you need to step back and slow down, Meow. If he's enough of a man to dominate his hormones, he'll understand and move at a pace your comfortable with, Meow.

Oh, the 'nilla swirly goes away if you post often enough, Meow. It's just a way to rank how familliar someone is to this community, meow, so folks can (hopefully) take it easy on the newbies instead of biting their heads off for asking that same old question we've all heard a thousand times before, Meow.

Should the Switch be asked which mode they are in? Should the Switch just assert themselves according to what side they're coming from?

I recently met a Dominant and responded to him as a submissive. For a couple of reasons I was spooked enough to revert to the Dominant side of my nature. He did not want to recognize me as a Domme even though He was aware of my being a Switch in the beginning of our connection.

We had only a half way met agreement but no contract in place.
I wish to be respectful but find it difficult to do when He refuses to acknowledge my need to feel safe means coming from the Dominant side of my nature.

Any thoughtful and considerate insights will be appreciated. Thank you

P.S. New here and just noticed the vanilla sign. NOT vanilla!

As other have said, just be people first.

At one time, I was a submissive, but that didn't mean I let anyone dom me around just because they classified themselves as dominant. The fact is plenty of subs will tell a dom to shove it if the dom gets presumptuous and tries to "assert" himself with a stranger. Ultimately, a dom has no more power than the sub gives him/her.

If a dom wants to immediately classify you into a tiny little box before he even knows who you are, you should yawn and leave.
