Im dealing with burrsitis of the shoulder... and i do have it in both legs. lol... one issue at a time. But it seems the normal treatment is a cortizone shot and PT, lots of stretching as opposed to weights. For example, my arm exercises are with 1 and 3 lb weights.... not much... just enough to pull the muscles a bit tighter in my shoulder.

http://www.arthritis-treatment-and-relief.com/exercises-for-hip-bursitis.html

That may help.

Rest
Ice
Pain meds
Exercise

If you can access different types of exercises you should be good to go.

Yep, I'm referring to the basic two handed swing movement. If done correctly, you're bending at the waist, with very little flexion in the legs.

Ok, I see what you mean.  Maybe it wouldn't affect a lower leg problem anything like as much as an upper leg one.

(Kettlebells were the hardest classes I ever did on all levels but the most effective)

Ok, but this is how I lift in Bodypump. (not since the old bursitis) Narrow squats work better and means I can keep going, or isolation stuff on machines.

We have to do wide and narrow squats..... same technique you described. I miss out the wide ones, for obvious reasons, but before that it was hugely effective.

All the teaching is about NOT stressing your knees. I'm just wondering if you saw a rather shoddy class?

Bursitis is inflammation of the sac of fluid in your hip joints. I'm after that elusive cure..... treating the symptoms really makes little sense to me after a year or so. I can cycle for miles and miles but can be crippled after walking a few paces. What a joke.

ETA: Just for your info john, nothing is *infected*, bursitis is just *inflamed*.

agirl

Septic Bursitis. You're welcome.

Squatting narrow puts more emphasis on the quads, which isn't a terrible thing except it's kinda missing the point of doing squats. Leg presses would achieve the same thing with less risk.

The thing about knees is that all these shitty instructors believe that squatting deep hurts the knees because it's been a myth for years. The fact of the matter is that stopping above parallel puts the greatest sheering force on the knees when they are in the weakest position. So like I said, it doesn't achieve much and is a greater injury risk. Whenever I watch these group classes doing squats, they always do them like that and it makes me cringe.

I don't have septic bursitis.

I can do a certain amount of wide squats, but it's really not a good idea to thrash it as it can mean ending up not being able to do anything at all, legwise. In the gym I belong to, everything is tailored to your individual physical situation and they insist on full medical disclosure.

Also, in BP, squats are always most carefully monitored. Classes were limited in number for this reason. Technique is paramount throught the entire class. As I said, you may have watched some shoddy classes. I've also seen squats done horribly badly myself by people on their own in the gym. Luckily we have a lot of keen instuctors who will intervene and help those whose technique is on the poor side.

Thanks tazzy,

I read through that briefly and it's chock full of detailed info. Tomorrow I'll read it through properly (it's really late here).

I'm so glad I started this thread now!!!!

Kbells don't get a lot of credit or respect, but they are the hardest exercise I've ever done. Even harder than when I was doing strongman training.

Would still like to hear a bit more detail about botox (semisweet?). Things like how painful and how much effect it achieves, drawbacks, any niggles about it......things that people like me, who know little about it, would ask if they had  someone who'd done it right there.

Tomorrow, time to snooze.  agirl

Just a quickie (;)) They have quite a lot of respect in the UK. It's a burgeoning fitness regime here as it is so effective.

REALLY going now.

They've flourished in Russia for decades, and with the MMA explosion here in the US they became really popular. But what's holding them back from becoming mainstream is that they really do suck.

I've really wanteed to try kettlebells; just have to wait for my budget to open up so I can sign up at a gym.

I don't know if you have planetfitness gyms near you but they're only $10 a month and no commitment. I have quite a few friends who go there and enjoy it.

You can buy them at walmart, you don't need to pay for a gym.

oh yeah -- it's a shimmy, in bellydance when the hips/butt area move really fast -- but it's all driven by your glutes. it's part of the suhaila salimpour method and makes it easier to layer a shimmy over another move.

you basically sit on the floor, and spread your legs out as wide as they can, lean forward a little bit to isolate the glutes at the back of the body. and then try to squeeze each glute individually. for some people it comes really easily, and for others it takes a while for them to "feel" their glute muscles.

here's suhaila showing you how to do it haha

. I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing.

Since we are talking about things other than weight, I also have had great results with Botox. I want to try rejuvaderm but I am still researching it.

Botox rocks!! I have been getting since I was 35, and I love it. I have had juvaderm and Restalyne done in my "smile lines" and it hurts like a bitch but it is also as good as Botox. For non-permanent temporary fillers, it's really effective and for me it is so subtle and it also makes the need for real surgery non existent.

I have always heard that you have to at least learn proper form for kettlebells, to avoid hurting yourself. So for that reason, i'd go to a gym.

And yeah the glute business iis funny but very effective! :)

I'd like a plumpy bum because it looks really pleasing to me, attractive. BUT I'm not prepared to do what it takes to BUILD a bigger bum ( quite a lot if it's got little fat) I can't do squats ad finitum as I have bursitis of the hips (probably due to running, ANY helpful hints on that would be appreciated btw)

So body shape, body hints, things that help, tips and advice.........(not surgical)

Ok, so can we , for once, just talk about it? Any takers?

agirl

You might try one of these exercises. Maybe the glute/ham machine if your gym has one.

How long did the juvaderm last? It is 350 bucks per syringe, so I want to know if it lasts for at least a few months.

It is done with very small needles. The vertical frown lines between my eyes take 4 shots. It stings a little, less if I am relaxed. The crows feet take 2 shots each eye and I barely felt them, surprisingly. On me, it made my frown lines, which were quite deep, noticeably lessen. It made the crows feet go completely away. It last for 4 months, although if you maintain the treatments, the muscles atrophy, and you can go 5 to 6 months. The drawbacks are the expense, and it does paralyze those parts of your face, so your face isn't as expressive. I can't scowl at people any more, although that is probably a good thing. Some people also use it in places where my Dr. does not recommend it, such as lower on their face. It can make your expression kind of strange if you do that

I have a big round ass. My four foot ten grandmother had a big round ass. So, yeah, you pretty much have to be born this way.

I miss my B cups. I miss being 36-26-38. My proportions are the same, at least. I have broad shoulders, so my D cups don't kill me, but damn they stick out a mile.

I am going to need more reconstructive surgery in the next 5-10 years, to pick up the side of my face that has the underlying muscles. In the meantime, I am pondering a chemical peel...anyone ever done that? I had some of the spider veins the surgery caused lasered off a few years ago, that was totally worth it, and I will do it again when it's in the budget.
