Any person that has ever spoken to a Quebecois gets the notion that all French people (such as Parisians) are the same racist and needlessly arrogant snobs.  They don't have reason to be arrogant at all.  Their culture is inferior, and their dialect is a bastardization of Euro-French.  Then there are those that somehow believe because they speak the language that makes French apart of their background.

They're little ratty counterfeits.

No idea about that, but there's nothing like being told what being Irish means by 3rd generation *American Irish*. And I'm not even bloody Irish.

If only they knew.

agirl

How do you think I feel. A non-Quebecois just told me that the people I've grown up around are , racist, and needlessly arrogant snobs. Heh, I had no idea!

Occasionally, that's not a bad idea. Sometimes, they are.

A bit late for this but oh well.

Hannah, St Leonard is primarily Italian now. On the other hand if he were to say that in East End Montreal, yeah he would never be heard of again.

More exaggerating. Montreal East is fiercely french speaking so if he went there and announced his opinion of the French they would be....not happy.

And I think that being miles upon miles away at an undisclosed location to lob out whatever honest opinion you may have is a lot easier to do than it would be to do face-to-face.

Now i'm confused. (Not an unusual state for me- i said it so you couldn't). But i thought your main complaint was that people here weren't honest ENOUGH.

The only time people are being honest here is when they throw out insults on someone's personal character.  It shows they dislike them to a great degree and certainly beats the pussyfooting a lot often do.

Quebec people are as French as Americans are British.

Not really. He said the ONLY time people are honest is when they throw out insults. Hardly.

Which means they aren't actually French.

Who said they are? Certainly the Quebecers who speak french don't.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Biases on collarme? (11/12/2011 1:14:14 PM)

Which is my point: all of the ones I have encountered, my brother has encountered (who lives there), my brother's girlfriend encountered, and their friends encountered, all think they are.  If that's grounds for murder (telling you that you're actually just a Canadian) then that also goes to show how insane they are in their delusions.

If I told you I speak fluent Greek and Italian, am I now Greek/Italian?  No.  I'm just a guy who speaks Greek/Italian exceptionally well.

gungadin09 -> RE: Biases on collarme? (11/12/2011 1:16:42 PM)

So... aside from a bias against individual posters, which we've agreed we can do nothing about, are there any other significant biases on collarme? The one that stands out from the poll is a favoritism towards female posters. And yet, no one has said anything about it. Why do you think that bias is perceived but not mentioned? For those who agree that that's a bias here, do you see the same bias in real life? Or do you perceive it being worse here?

pam

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Biases on collarme? (11/12/2011 1:19:54 PM)

I don't see a favoritism toward female posters, but then I mostly see females posting! I see a lot of anti-femdom bias, from men and women.

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: Biases on collarme? (11/12/2011 1:24:20 PM)

That's odd because I've lived here all my life and have never heard anything but being fiercely Quebecois(e).
