ORIGINAL: LillyBoPeep I don't know, really - I've never been in the position to be criticized for how I hold utensils. :p most of the people I know just "do whatever." When I ate with my ex's family in the UK, nobody said anything, though maybe they just thought I was being a weird American. :p I can't speak for the entire UK (lol)........but if you have a guest it would be also be bad form to mention the way they ate or to make them feel uncomfortable in any way. That would be height of rudeness in itself. I imagine that's also the case in the USA? There are different *rules* for inside and outside of the home, or for casual and more formal meals. For instance, it's bad manners to have your elbows on the table.........but when at home , we sometimes do, especially if it's more of a *sit around the table for hours chatting and eating* situation. You wouldn't do that in a restaurant though, as a rule. It all seems quite amusing and silly when taken apart, but like most culteral things, you just*know* what's acceptable and what isn't and it's barely thought about. agirl
