Only someone on the far left fringe would think that allowing people keep the money they earn is a government entitlement program, besides

Oh REEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY?!!  Well, by all means... please do share your irrefutable, scientifically proven evidence that Republicans have been the SOLE beneficiaries of the "Bush Tax Cuts" –- as ONLY THAT would make it a "Republican Entitlement", instead of just another Lefty/Lib LIE by you.

I’ll wait... though I'm-a-guessin' you’ll come up short –- as usual. [8|]

Assuming they earned it the same way the rest of us have to. Legally and by actually working and producing.
Why should a CEO who makes bad decisions and bankrupts a company putting hundreds or thousands of people out of work be rewarded with a 7 figure income (sometimes at taxpayer expense)?
The same thing should happen to one of us who makes bad decisions and puts his company in the poor house. If it were me or you, we would be told to "Clean out your desk, turn in all your keys and get the fuck out."
Personally, I'd be happy if my little company paid the same amount as GE in income taxes.

80% of the Bush tax cuts went to the top 20% of taxpayers and most of them are repubs.

Of course you've offered ZERO in the way of PROOF of this.  So, do you care to support this claim with actual... yanno... verifiable, scientifically validated, evidence -- or should we just assume you're lying again?!! [:)]

On this, I think, irrespective of political party affiliation, most would agree.  And I'll take it one step further... for those in both the Private (ala Solyndra, for example) and Public (ala Fannie/Freddie, for example) sector, if found they (i.e., all Executive/Board staff) either hid the organization's genuine financial health (or falsely promoted sense of good health), PRISON TIME should follow said order to, "Clean out your desk, turn in all your keys and get the fuck out."

If you mean when there are crimes committed people shouldnt profit, I am in total agreement with you - but thats a different thread isnt it

If you mean however, that creative geniuses should be forced by the IRS to live lives of destitution because all they bring to the table are their brilliant  ideas, or that those who are well schooled in business strategy should be similarly punished by our government, then we will have to disagree

As you mentioned GE, you should take the time to thoroughly look into the GE Ceo and chairman Jeffrey Immelts relationship with Barack Obama, and also GEs tax deductions for "green" investments because if what you are pedaling is the idea that the tax code shouldnt be used to push political agendas we are also in agreement

As for crimes, It's interesting that there are things that you or I would go to jail for that are commonly done by the wealthy and especially our congress.

I'd love to see a constitutional amendment that states congress shall pass no law that doesn't also apply to them. (that's also fodder for another thread).
I just used GE as an example of a politically connected company (they're on both sides of the aisle) that pays less tax than a non politically connected small business man (or woman).

Look at the Wall street and Detroit bailouts. Taxpayer funded and the guys that created the mess in the first place walked away with millions of taxpayer dollars.

As for your destitute comment, I'd hardly call someone that takes home 6 figures destitute.

That's EXACTLY where the OP, the cry-baby Libs/Lefties, and the raping, violent, racist, entitlement minded, communist/socialist, anti-free speach OWS filth fall.

There's NO SUCH THING as "Income Inequality" as the loons on the Left describe it... "inequality" can only exist if two people are doing the SAME job, in the SAME region, and in the SAME organization, but are being compensated differently.

But oh no... to the Lib/Lefty loons, if some LOSER who isn't qualified to flip burgers makes less than a CEO, then that's their INSANE view of "Income Inequality".  Pffft... just another excuse for their own personal failure. [8|]

Only the greedy right wing cut taxes before starting two wars. It's as if the right told the country, 'we are going to start two wars, us and our financial constituency and major corporate fleecers are going to make a ton of money we are not going to pay for it, we take the tax cut, invest it in war.

We're going to blow wall street up, for more casino profiteering, you are going to bail them out, we pass a social program of drug bennies for the elderly who vote en masse, you, the middle class, the poor...are going to pay it. Now look Martha, we have too much debt. Must be those lefties and their programs, couldn't be our neocon, right wing wars and unadulterated greed.

Now bitches...you get to cutting your programs...to pay for our 'programs.'

ConfidencePlays -> RE: Income inequality (12/29/2011 1:09:11 PM)

Income inequality, income disparity, is that the working class in this country need three jobs between two people to make ends meet and see food on the table for just one child between them. It means a man working forty hours a week still has to ask for food stamps because between  rent and electricity, he can barely afford to keep gas in his car.

It means a lack of opportunity, a lack of education, a lack of the "pursuit of happiness" we were once told we had a god given right to, because all some people can pursue is that maybe they can make their bills on time this month.

But it's really just a symptom. Fixing it would make some people feel better, but it wouldn't change the way in which the system is fundamentally broken. Is it worth fixing? Sure, knock yourself out. It's a fight you have a chance of winning, after all. But don't expect it to be the panacea people keep wishing for.

barelynangel -> RE: Income inequality (12/29/2011 1:16:34 PM)

I have a really stupid question -- but you know all these SUPER WEALTHY everyone keeps talking about -- you know that less than or equal to 1%, has anyone ever done a surve to confirm that they are ALL REPUBLICAN???  I mean hell the way everyone talks its like all these people who are taking advantage of the system and making money off the system and are all illegal and such are all republicans.  Somehow i doubt they are.

So why do discussion like this always seem to be fights between Dems and Reps?   I mean perhaps, just perhaps, if it's these 1% everyone is afraid of and say controls us etc etc etc, why not make them ONE party and make everyone else another party?

Sorry i really never got into the party concept and tend to deal with issues on an issue basis rather than what a party believes should be done overall.

Did someone say they were? I found it angel. I dont know why that poster, or any poster, insists this is a right/left issue.

I dont believe anyone has said they are all republican.
I know its certainly not my belief.
greed covers all sides of the aisle

Okay Thanks Tazzy and Lucy, i wasn't sure.

barelynangel -> RE: Income inequality (12/29/2011 1:59:23 PM)

As it is off topic, i will return to the scheduled topic.

All in all, income inequality is a very arbitrary phrase from what is being thrown around this board.  That could be part of the problem in fixing the problem lol as no one knows what the problem is.

kdsub -> RE: Income inequality (12/29/2011 2:11:50 PM)

All to please and fill the demands of...will... you and me... Maybe we should all claim some blame right along with and equal to those you are protesting.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Income inequality (12/29/2011 2:26:57 PM)

I have not read the thread yet, so, hopefully this does not make me look like an ignorant jackass.

The problem I have with income inequity is hard to explain.

I just feel that every job is important, from cleaning the bathrooms, to sweeping the floors at the grocery store, to teaching our kids, to being a heart surgeon.

Each one fills an area that needs to be filled.

While I will admit that the surgeon should make more money, it pains me that the floor sweeper and bathroom cleaners can not even make enough, working 40 hours a week, to pay for basic necessities.

If I knew how to fix it, I would be running for president.

MasterSlaveLA -> RE: Income inequality (12/29/2011 2:27:29 PM)

And yet... I've answered your OP not once, not twice, but MULTIPLE times.  Gee... go figure?!!  [8|]

Thats pretty much it in a nut shell. work 40 hours a week... and you cant pay your basic living expences. And no one sees anything wrong with that....

Not a jackass repsonse, that is my feeling too
someone that is working even minimum wage, should be able to afford to pay a decent rent put food on their table and have enough to live on
companies are cutting hours, so you cannot work 40 hours get benefits and health insurance ....why????
to pad someone elses pocket
Iknow how to fix it, but seems people love their own "greed" just not anyone elses
