I have walked into more than a few munch groups and been the new person. To date, I have never sat at the table and opened the conversation about what the fuck I do in My spare time. I've never introduced Myself by telling folks what kind of movies I watch or what kind of music I listened to. I showed up at the munch because I wanted to connect with people who were interested in kink. When we got to the round table portion of the evening, I introduced Myself as a poly, Dominant, sadist. I honestly don't care about how people have decided for themselves that this is some kind of dating site or how anybody who shows up here has to be interested in a flipping relationship. The chicken shit bullying that you are trying to pull off doesn't work with Me. If your comment is only being said in Introductions is only being made because you can push people around, you'd better remember that I'm here, too. When you try to bully someone into what you *think* has to happen here, I'll be happy to stand up and give you My honest opinion.

Some of you have gotten so far away from what this place is supposed to be for, that I can't even identify with you. Frankly, some of you suck!

I'm completely sick of certain people telling other folks that they can't talk about kink here.

In My opinion, this is, and always will be a kink site. If you can't handle that, you and I shall be having some debates.

But surely it goes both ways. If people behave like assholes when they start an introduction thread, then they should expect to be called out on it. They are adults, and should be able to take it. One intro included a link to their clips4sale which was peddling fetish-themed porn clips - is that what the Introduction forum is for? And that post and link are still standing.

LP, personally I like to know that there's more to a person than their kinks. It shows me a more rounded out human being who is more than the sum of their kinks. I agree that telling someone not to discuss their kinks but if that's all I know about them and all we talk about I'm going to get bored really quickly.

That's why I just pass profiles that are all about the kink and don't say anything about the person behind the kink by. Before we become friends I want to know about the person as a whole. Because CollarMe is about finding likeminded kinksters for friendship and/or a relationship. Why would I do that with someone I have nothing in common with aside from the kink(s)? Hell even on this side of things there are sections to discuss non-kinky stuff so you can't even say that CollarChat is entirely about kink.

I'm only new here so I might throw in a newbie opinion.

Any website on the interwebz that has any amount of reasonably intelligent people in a large group will have snark. This snark exists, because like others have mentioned, some people, especially new ones, introduce themselves or engage in completely inappropriate conversation, with no adherence to the FAQs or TOS, let alone reading every post or scoping out the tone of a thread.

So yes, they are asking for it. It's not my fault (or the fault of any other regular) that these people have no concept of how a messageboard works. Heck, messageboards have only been around 15 years in some form or another!

Edited to add: Oh and by the way, just because I'm kinky doesn't mean I'm going to tell everyone on here what I get up to in my spare time. Just because it's a kink website, doesn't mean we need to shit fairydust anytime someone posts that they like to put potato crisps up their ass or are a cumslut.

Here's my take on it. Sure, people may put "stupid" posts out there, which opens themselves up to snider comments. I get that. But my way of looking at the world (which will obviously vastly differ from others), is this:

I am of the belief that thoughts, words and actions carry energy. It's related to The Law of Attraction concept, which I believe and live by. I have a choice - I can put good energy out there, or bad. I choose good. Obviously others choose differently, and believe differently. But this is why I am not a fan or supporter of responding to people - smart, dumb, or anything in between - with snark. It just puts bad ju ju out there.

Yeah message boards have been around for quite a while but 1) not everyone spends a whole lot of time online, 2) not everyone enjoys posting on message boards and finally 3) everyone has to start somewhere and this might well be (and for some is) their first.

While I generally agree with you, LP, that we could act like better people to new comers, another thought does occur to me. This is a moderated site, with pretty specific TOS. The moderators are likely trained in the TOS, have committed to spending some time checking over things, including the intro section, and have devised a way that offending posts can be easily reported. For a user to announce that they are going to be taking it upon themselves to basically police the intro threads is a little, well . . . the word "officious" comes to mind. Are you a moderator now, LP? Or is winter in Alaska just making you go all "mama grizzly"? If you are a moderator, why not just address the situation in that role, instead of making a big announcement?

I don't go into the "intros" section very often but when I do I just say "welcome aboard" or something like that.

I am in the yellow pages. I have had kinky clients in the past but really, I don't want my picture on here, AND on marketing materials. So I have a whole array of other pictures that tell you a lot about me, and what I like. People write and start conversations with me, based on them. And if they want to see a picture of my face, I have no trouble emailing them one.

Yes, this is a KINK site. But isn't the commonest femdom complaint that we are treated as fetish delivery systems. Is that the new standard, that we should just be looking for kink matchups and fuck who we are elsewhere?

Hey I figure everyone has their own style, and their own reasons for being here. Some people like to be snarky, some don't. I think CM provides equal opportunity to discuss posting preferences. I'm an anti-snark kinda girl. I've read countless posts by people who enjoy troll baiting and train wrecks and putting people in their places. That's their choice. I choose not to. Others who choose not to are posting that they don't enjoy it.

Yes, that was serious, NuevaVida. You're one of the longtime posters, you have seen how the moderation styles have been all over the map. The moderators are just folks that offer their time and get tossed into the fray, they're not reading every damn post. What each of them DOES bring to the party is their own styles AND THEIR OWN AGENDAS. That can be good and bad.

Are we meeeeen? Yeah, sometimes we really really are. Personally, I have a zero tolerance for stupidity, and a zero tolerance for adulterers. The stupid and the cheating will get short shrift from me. The decent and the genuine, new or otherwise, get the friendlies.

If there is some new moderation goal of Pollyanna Posting, yes, I want to know so I can STFU and just stop posting in any area that I am not likely to fit. I stay away from Politics and Religion 99% of the time, avoiding intros shouldn't be any harder.
