We've all had three posts at some time. In fact, I've been a new user on these boards several times, as I apparently couldn't make up my mind and opened and closed a few accounts on CM over the years. So I've had only three posts a number of times. Not once did I ever feel anyone was accusing me of being a fake.

Yeah, but it's routinely cited as "proof" of sockpuppety, particularly if you happen to espousing an unpopular opinion and especially, if that opinion happens to coincide with that of the current sacrificial goat, with whom no-one could possibly agree without being a sockpuppet.

xssve -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 4:34:57 PM)

I don't know how many people I've seen just say "fuck this shit" and leave, when the 7% club gets going.

Kaliko -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 4:47:55 PM)

I actually don't notice user names all that much unless there's a real life picture attached to it, so I don't often notice whether someone is new or not.

What does catch my eye, though, is if someone storms on to the boards aggressively and begins attacking. If they've only got a few posts to their name, it is not entirely unlikely that they've created the profile in order to get the venting out of their system. Once they've vented, and they've calmed down, there is no longer a need for the profile and they disappear. It's not awful or bad. I made a profile on CM once that I had for about a day. It happens.

It also seems to happen that a person with a profile for years on CM suddenly starts posting, again...aggressively. I have no guesses there, other than maybe they've got some pent up feelings from reading the boards for years and liking/disliking certain posters and are finally drunk enough to post. Or perhaps they've just experienced some real-life event which caused them to start ranting in the forums.

Either way, the key (for me, anyway) is that they are aggressive, not that they are new. If one comes onto the boards looking for a fight, one will likely find it.

I have not spent any significant amount of time on the other side,
I was once a lurker for quite some time. It allowed me to get a feel for the
place while I quietly absorbed some very helpful information. I still enjoy
the ability to read here without having to sign in. I wonder how things
would change here if signing in were mandatory?

I think it would be fantastic if every member were to enjoy every
feature of this site, I don't necessarily see it as a negative that they don't.
Not everyone will fill their plate with every dish at the buffet line,
but focus mainly on that which brings them nourishment.

Sure it happens and not just here, alts are extremely common on Literotica, half the chicks are guys - it also happens that new users are prompted to enter into an argument on the side of the underdog in order to restore a little balance in a runaway feeding frenzy, while under the egregious mis-assumption that rational discourse is the goal, and rapidly disabused of that notion, often within seconds.

Either way, I personally think it's safe to assume that there is someone on the other side of the screen, and I try to connect with that person - and I have my own methodology for determining who is likely an alt and who isn't, proceeding from that base assumption, if it seems important - it's all just words on a screen, anybody can be anybody.

Meantime, trust me, some Sherlock is researching this right now.

Re: aggression - practically every new member in here posts aggressively at first, it's a den of snarling Dominants don't you know, just waiting with bated breath for fresh meat to wander innocently in,  that's apparently pretty much what you get on the other side.

New forum users tend to try to display confidence and that can border on aggression - Fortunately, there are also regulars waiting to welcome them and put them at ease, luck of the draw maybe, I dunno.

Some relax some end up getting the boot - but aggression in an internet forum, especially a BDSM forum? Tell me it ain't so!

I can fully understand why somebody would make and alt to vent however, or even start fresh if things are just spiraling down the toilet - it's America, you can do that.

I changed my nick, a year or so ago, for other reasons, and had to start back at Vanilla again - I guess, I don't really pay attention to that, but I probably have Three times that many posts between the Two.

Lol, I shouldn't be bragging about that - in my defense I have good reasons for having no life. [8|]

Not true. I, certainly, have not been aggressive and even if I have neared it now and then, it certainly didn't occur until I was confident the posters here knew me well enough to forgive me for it.

And besides, this is hardly a den of snarling Dominants. Oh, how I wish it was.

Just one sentence but you said a mouthful.
It isn't really the Dominants who do most of
the snarling.

I guess no one has seen a kindergarten school yard lately. Vicious little beasts... and they do grow up. However, by adult age, you would think we would know how to conduct ourselves and how to take others and not have to go all Polly Anna... perfect world, can't we all get along. We never have, never will and I don't expect that to change. [;)]

Never mind. I can't keep that up there. I don't have it in me.

Sorry, no idea what you mean by that.
But I'm sure whoever(s) you were really
addressing understood it and will give you
the appropriate back slap and you go girl
for your efforts.

Kaliko -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 6:26:56 PM)

No, no. Actually, I was a little rude, and then deleted it because I didn't want to be rude, is all.

Actually, I shouldn't even say I was a little rude. I made a joke, which in retrospect should not have been a reply to you, but to xssve, and even then, it was only marginally funny and might have been taken as rude. I tried to be brave and keep it up anyway, but "I just didn't have it in me."

Pretty much. To take that furthur, since observing CM and the forums since 2005, I've found there are four groups in CM in order of size.

1) The majority of CM members who know of the forum but ignore it.

2) The members who lurk for whatever reason without posting. I suspect for the entertainment provided by group 4 when HBO has nothing good on.

3) THe members who post then leave or post only every once in awhile then give up and become semi-permanent members of the second group. That would be me.

4) The permanent fixtures. These are members who have posted here for years and years, post on the average of once every waking hour, some more, and can be identified because they seem to run from one thread to the other and their average posting rate per day or week or year cannot be believed. They seem to feel they own a particular segement of the forums and usually get their kicks by ganging up on a "new" male Dom or when lacking them even a new female submissive. They derail threads usually about the second page of postings since it too that much time for them to discover the new thread. They rarely post on Friday and Saturday nights because that would let everyone know they are at home. They are the reason the forums are not used by groups 1, 2 and mostly three. They tend to use strange icons or pictures that clearly are not real for their postings because, well, you can guess why.

I'm starting to get offended. Lucky for me I'm tipsy. It deadens the pain.

Watch it. Don't start derailing the thread in what some might consider to be cliquish behavior. (Oh, wait...that's you. LOL)

(Oh, come on. Now THAT was funny.)

xssve -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 6:53:14 PM)

I am a clique unto myself.

(cue symphonic chest-beating theme)

xssve -> RE: The 3 faces of D/s on CM (1/29/2012 6:58:33 PM)

And that should be interpreted as: if you are talking nicely to me or agreeing with anything I say you are clearly one of my many sockpuppets - dance sockpuppet!

No wait, belay that, you might knock a lamp over or something.
