So about a month ago, I developed a sinus infection.  I thought I just had a cold, because I didn't really have terrible sinus issues, just a runny nose.  Anyway, the sinus infection made my teeth horribly sensitive.  Just the outside air hitting them was painful.

Took the antibiotics for the infection and the sensitivity pretty much went away.  However, my jaw has developed horrible pain and swelling.  After some research, I found the sinus infection may not have been completely eradicated by the antibiotics or the jaw pain and swelling could be a residual effect.  I have been going through Orajel/Anbesol and prescription doses of Advil like crazy, but over the last couple of days, it really hasn't been all that effective.  That is when I realized it was my jaw and not my teeth that were now painful.

This morning, I was literally in tears from the pain.  In addition to the pain, my throat was so sore, I couldn't swallow or even open my mouth very much.  I have an appointment with the doctor on Monday, but in the meantime, I have been miserable.  The Advil and the topicals work for maybe an hour.

While visiting with a friend of mine, she suggested I try some Myrhh and said that it could be better than what I had been using.  She had a small bottle that she gave me to use.  When I got home, I used the dropper in the bottle and put some of the liquid on the painful areas.  In less than a minute, not only was the pain almost completely gone, but it even reduced the swelling!  There had been visible swelling on my face at my jaw (like when you have a tooth pulled), and it was gone.

I knew that cloves/clove oil was a good topical anesthetic for mouth pain, but Myrhh beats that hands down.  Nastiest tasting shit ever, but when in that much pain, who cares, right?  I also read that it could have some positive effects at helping to lower blood sugar in the treatment of diabetes, among all kinds of other positive uses.

So anyone else ever hear of this?  I  know there are a bunch of you here who are all over the homeopathic, natural treatments.  If you haven't heard of this before, I'm telling you, it is amazing!

I hope you will get to a dentist soon though. An infection like the one you're describing can land you in a hospital or worse.

I would have been going to the doctor sooner, but had made an appointment for follow up on some tests.  Without insurance, I really can't be making two back to back appointments.

I spent this morning trying to figure out whether it was a dental or medical issue.  Since it isn't really my teeth, and based on what I read about sinus infections, I decided to go to my doctor.

Believe me, I was worried about how bad of an infection it might be, and if I develop symptoms other than bring me to tears pain (like a fever or nausea), I will go to the ER at the teaching hospital a few towns over that also has a dental clinic, hoping that will cover all the bases whether it is dental or medical.  Hopefully, I will make it to Monday though.

Eeek! There are few things worse than tooth or sinus pain in my opinion. Please go to that hospital if you feel an increase in pain, fever or swelling.

~Fast Reply~

Wow, the swelling has NOT come back and the pain is still minimal without additional application.  Funny thing is this is considered a "biblical herbal remedy."  Even for those who bash the bible, they can't discount this useful herb mentioned there.

You have tooth roots going right up into your sinuses, so yes they can make your teeth and jaw hurt. You may also be inadvertantly clenching your jaw from the sinus pain, which can cause jaw pain.
I've had many a hellish sinus infection. What you're describing sounds pretty severe.
I will keep myrrh in the back of my mind for my next one. Sounds amazing. Glad it's helping you

It may be a herpes virus. If you have one, I would like to know the name of the antibiotic that exacerbated the condition. If it is a herpes virus, do not let anything be done to your teeth. (It took me extreme damage to several molars before I realized that a herpes virus caused my problems. I recall that once I had ache in three adjoining molars. My dentist wanted to pull them all three. I refused and left, and saw him thinking with certainty: "He will be back this afternoon and will let me pull them all three", but I knew what caused the pain - and I have them three molars still in my jaw.)

I will try out myrrh on my various ailments.

You think everything is a herpes virus.  I never indicated the antibiotic exacerbated the condition.  With some infections, they will not be completely cured with a normal course of antibiotics.  Considering other issues that I have needed to be treated with antibiotics for, it isn't a wonder if one course didn't completely clear it up.

While you don't trust doctors, I trust mine.  But please do keep myrhh in  mind for your ailments.

I originally thought that the pain in my jaw was from clenching it in my sleep.  I have had some more serious sinus infections, but this one was really mild.  As I said, I thought I just had a cold.

The Vitamin Shop carries myrhh and I intend on getting some to keep on hand (so I can return my friend's bottle).  I rarely will say something is like a "miracle cure," but this most definately is.  The swelling has not returned, the pain hasn't either.  I'm still going to mention it to the doctor just to be sure everything is cleared up, but it seems almost completely cleared up.

I must repeat the warning though....it really tastes horrible!  Of course, when we are in that much pain, we will try anything.

Oh yea, I also read it is good for migraines as well.

I notice that you do not deny having a herpes virus, but glibly elude answering my question. Hence I will consider this a tacit admission that you do have one. Therefore I conclude that all your symptoms, including your mild sinus cold were in fact not a cold, but an outbreak of your herpes virus. Now please do tell me the name of the antibiotic.

I also conclude that your physicians are incompetent and that they constitute a serious health risk to the patients who trust them.

Rule,

Doctors do not prescribe antibiotics for herpes virus infections because antibiotics only work on bacteria.
They are useless on viruses.

There was a time when doctors were much more liberal in their use of antibiotics but resistant infections such as MRSA have changed the way the medical community uses them to a degree.

There is such a thing as an opportunistic bacterial infection.

Suffice it for me to conclude that you do not know what you are talking about, Angelika.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they used it back in those days for teething pain in fussy babies?

You know it's sad how humanity has lost much of the ancient medical knowledge that we once had. We are having to re-discover it all over again. I don't have anything against synthetic drugs per se, but I wish doctors could be trained in alternative/ayurvedic medicine and combine both ancient and modern to give good care. I hate how the current structure is sort of one or the other. (I don't think we should reject either, but use all knowledge we have to come to good decisions on a case by case basis - I'm not a fan of rejecting modern medicine either - I have no intention of going back to the days of death from small pox or death/disfigurement from polio.)

I don't answer because your comments are so ridiculous as to not require nor deserve and answer.  Your posts here indicate you think everyone has herpes and a million other completely ignorant statements.  Then you have the audacity to attempt to subtly order me to tell you what antibiotic it was?

You claim to be so smart (which based on your statements shows you are also deluded), so research sinus infections and figure out the most populat antibiotic for them.  Might have been what I took, might not have been.

As for your comment about my doctor, which is simply more idiocy from you (and quite expected), anyone who takes advice about their health puts themselves in physical danger and is obviously as deluded and ignorant as you.

I notice that you still have not denied that you have some herpes virus. I think that you are full of shit. Either admit that you have some herpes virus or deny it; I do not care which, as long as it is the truth. Given your perspicacious evasion of providing an answer, my conclusion stands: you have got some herpes virus and your symptoms were due to that virus.

Of course there are "opportunistic infections" and secondary infections as well.
Opportunistic infections happen in people who have compromised immune systems.

Rule,
The only herpes virus I have is the varicella-zoster virus (the virus that causes chicken pox and shingles).

You still have not said what strain it was that nearly killed you.

I did know someone in high school who had a severe case of Mononucleosis and he had a temperature of 105.
Originally they thought it was some form of meningitis. He also had a brief bit with jaundice while ill, so then they thought hepatitis, but no, it was mono. He did make a full recovery.

My brother got chicken pox as an adult and had it quite severely.
He ended up with them in his lungs which caused a specific type of pneumonia.
He also made a full recovery (except of course chicken pox never leaves us).

So, I am not saying that some herpes viruses can't have severe complications; just that those things are rare.
