I remember hearing that Detroit was tearing down blocks where no one lived and making parks. It reduced the urban blight and made more green space for people to play? Was that a city fluff piece, or is there some hope?

Hate to say this ... but I saw miles of torn down buildings ... weeds as high as your knees in July ...

Agreed. I was also born and raised in Detroit. I always compare Detroit to Stalingrad in 1944 (that comparison isn't too far off). If people knew what that city looked like, they'd be completely shocked to see these types of conditions existing in America.
