Transcript: Sandra Fluke testifies on why women should be allowed access to contraception and reproductive health care

...“In 65% of the cases at our school, our female students were interrogated by insurance representatives and university medical staff about why they needed prescription and whether they were lying about their symptoms.

“For my friend and 20% of the women in her situation, she never got the insurance company to cover her prescription. Despite verifications of her illness from her doctor, her claim was denied repeatedly on the assumption that she really wanted birth control to prevent pregnancy. She’s gay. So clearly polycystic ovarian syndrome was a much more urgent concern than accidental pregnancy for her.

“After months paying over $100 out-of-pocket, she just couldn’t afford her medication anymore, and she had to stop taking it.

“I learned about all of this when I walked out of a test and got a message from her that in the middle of the night in her final exam period she’d been in the emergency room. She’d been there all night in just terrible, excruciating pain. She wrote to me, ‘It was so painful I’d woke up thinking I’ve been shot.’

“Without her taking the birth control, a massive cyst the size of a tennis ball had grown on her ovary. She had to have surgery to remove her entire ovary as a result.

...“Some may say that my friend’s tragic story is rare. It’s not. I wish it were

“One woman told us doctors believe she has endometriosis, but that can’t be proven without surgery. So the insurance has not been willing to cover her medication – the contraception she needs to treat her endometriosis.

“Recently, another woman told me that she also has polycystic ovarian syndrome and she’s struggling to pay for her medication and is terrified to not have access to it.

“Due to the barriers erected by Georgetown’s policy, she hasn’t been reimbursed for her medications since last August.

“I sincerely pray that we don’t have to wait until she loses an ovary or is diagnosed with cancer before her needs and the needs of all of these women are taken seriously.

“Because this is the message that not requiring coverage of contraception sends: A woman’s reproductive health care isn’t a necessity, isn’t a priority.

I have had ovarian cysts. Without birth control, I was in pain about every 2 months (gnarly right bugger). The pain took me to the ER every damn time. I finally convinced my GYN that due to my heavy bleeding and cyst bursting (and down time at work), I needed a hysterectomy. Other than an infection, best decision I made.

Now watch Rush call women like me sluts and whores for having sterilization for medical purposes.

Has he done scummy things in the past? Of course he has and, I suppose, in your view, he should never be forgiven?

Has he done scummy things in the past? You are considering what went on for 3+ days last week, that of the most vile nature, to be "in the past" already?

Forgive the past, you are proposing? The guy has never done any thing but scummy things from his first day on the air until this morning's show, no break from it. Lest it escaped notice, that is the whole purpose and intention of his shtick, to sell his spiel to the lowest element of society, the scum, by way of behaving in scummy manner and saying scummy things into the losers' loudspeakers. They dive face first into barrel after barrel of his scummy dystopian fabrications and 100% BS.

Here's the latest flash; it's not about 'forgiving' behaviour that will obviously never cease, it's about better society's intention to stomp on a grossly over sized cockroach, simple as that. Some of us have the notion that a better educated society, a better informed society, a society that is manifest of evolution would have no use for the lowest form of anti-intellect and anti-progress barker such as this miserable person. He is not merely attempting to retard anything resembling progress, he is making every effort to drag society backwards by as many centuries as possible. His well demonstrated influence on a number of politicians and voters eliminate the fatuous claim of his being 'just an entertainer' and so then forces the issue as we have before us now. By his own doing, while we're at it, so please dispense with this crap of 'libs' being at fault for the fallout resulting from the septic tank qua radio show explosion.

All I can say is, enjoy it while you can. Your day is done.

Trust me; no one here (except for one) figures into my thoughts. I notice you didn't repost the two examples I quoted as making fun of integrity. That kind of shows a lot too.

I reposted your words exactly as you wrote them. If you are talking about the 'hahah's, they had nothing to do with your post except you made projections about them and as I had no assumptions of my own what those two posters meant by their written laughter, I saw no reason to repost them for a third time. I was quoting and answering 'you'.. not previous posters. They can laugh to their hearts content. I don't care why they laugh but I also don't presume to know why they do so either. My engagement was with you.. not them.

When I mentioned the spirit of forgiveness, I meant the over-all shadenfreude which is playing itself out in front of all of us. Believe me, it had nothing to do with you, personally.

Okay, good. Glad to hear it. As for forgiveness.. please don't mistake me for a democrat. I am not trusting and I'm really not the forgiving sort unless I have been personally injured and an apology to me, personally, is sincere. In that case, I try to accept such with grace but, overall, feel that someone is really better served to forgive themselves.. and to modify their behavior if they have to ask for forgiveness too frequently.

quote:

I find it a shame that there's a segment of the population that has so little compassion for some people while claiming to have endless amounts for others. I find it almost sinful that these same people are the first to cry foul, when the shoe is on the other foot.

I get it now. You are talking in general and not to me, specifically, because I don't do that. I called Maher on it when he did it to Palin and I lost all respect for her when she threw her own daughter under the bus. Just because I don't respect her though doesn't mean that I think it's okay to use vile language to describe her that 'only' goes to her gender. Call her a politician.. I'll buy that right with anyone.. calling her a cunt.. not cool in my world. Calling Fluke a slut and a prostitute.. not cool in my world and I have a feeling that it's probably cause for a slander case unless Limbaugh can 'prove' she's actually a slut and a prostitute which is, as far as I know, the only defense against slander. It has to be true and it may very well be, but I doubt if Limbaugh would have known that when he said it.

quote:

I find it abhorrent, when I see the feeling of entitlement and "we're better than you because we're right" coming from a segment on the left side of the discussion.

If you had put a period after the word 'right' then I could buy that.. but you didn't so you are adding to the divisiveness that you find sad.
