Ok so this is geared towards women who play hard. How do you deal with playing hard when you have menopause and you're sweating to death before you even start playing?

I'm always feeling like an oven every single day even when outside in 30 degree weather. So Master and I were playing at the Crucible and anyone who knows us knows he's sadistic and we play pretty hard. This time though I was having a really difficult time doing almost anything without passing out between the heat in the room, my heat and the heat from playing.

So for those who have dealt with this, what got you threw? How did you deal with it? I'm getting really frustrated with it and I am starting a gym this week and I'm afraid the same thing will end up happening at the gym.

Any ideas, views, thoughts would be extremely helpful. I refuse to just give up doing everything I like because of the possiblity of fainting.

Id recommend if hes open to it using cool packs on pressure points, depending on what piece of equipment you are on you might be able to put something in the neck chest area to kind of add a temp regulation.

Or depending on the venue set up a small fan or near a window...

Here at home it's usually not a problem because I simply just turn down the heat. But sometimes it can still be a problem and I'll overheat twice as fast then I normally would when we play so I'm constantly having to stop to have him give me water after water. But when we're at venues there's not always a lot that can be done. I emailed one of the people today who said if I have a problem next time to speak with management and they'll see what they can do. I just don't want to bother the rest of the people there just because it seems like I'm the onlly one having this problem. I was told today that they keep the heat up to encourage people to undress. Yeah, I undress and I'm still overheating lol.

Make sure you stay well hydrated.  Kink aside, that's just good advice for women going through menopause.  I used to feel light-headed until my doctor recommended I drink coconut water.

usually most places have hot and cold areas to try to accommodate everyone as best as possible... I know cold packs have worked for me to bring down my temp when necessary..

I also would suggest if you and K are open to it, Fireplay, I know even in the middle of summer when its 90 degrees, my temp drops a good 10 degrees afterwards.

we've talked about doing fireplay in the future. I think right now it would just add more heat to my hotness lol.

Try upping your vitamin B and E intake, or take Advil about an hour before play, it might help keep the body temp down..

That or if you arent on a birth control perhaps try that to replace the hormones

I've seen my dr already and she just shrugs it off like it's not a big deal and something I just will have to deal with and being on antidepressents I think she's very way of giving me birth control or anything else, especially since I had my tubes tied over 15 years ago. I will look into the vitamin supplements though and make sure they have no interactions with my other meds. Thanks.

SSRIs will control hot flashes. I was pleased as punch years ago when put on them for depression to discover they stopped the god awful night sweats. You might want to discuss if there's a very small dosage that you could take.

I'm already on two SSRI's that I take together at the highest dose allowed. It doesn't help me at all. My sweats are still just as bad as before I got on them.

I already eat quite a lot of soy. I think I might try the black cohosh though. Thanks.

I have also found that there are things I eat and drink that make it worse. Simple carbs, sugar and caffiene. All three are guaranteed to screw me up.

Better gyms tend to be quite chilly. I'm auditioning new ones because I'm tired of the maintenance issues at mine and noticed they are cooler as well as cleaner.

I'm in peri-menopuase now and am not having hot flashes (knock wood.) I wonder if it's because I'm taking Prometrium, a natural progesterone, for my heavy periods.

Without reading either article, I would have recommended black cohosh, as it is the natural remedy I've heard the most about for hot flashes.

Dr. Christiane Northrup's "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" has four pages on hot flashes. The first paragraph says:

"Many, many women notice vast improvements in sleep and hot flashes when they reduce their glycemic stress. Hot flashes almost always improve when you stop wine, sugar, white flour products, and coffee. (Sorry.)

The reason for this is that these substances can raise blood sugar and adrenaline levels*, thus resulting in imbalances of neurotransmitters.

Take vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol), 100 to 400 IU two times per day and citrus bioflavonoids with ascorbic acid, 200 mg four to 6 times per day. Omega-3 fats such as those found in flaxseed and fish oil are also very helpful."

[Ascorbic acid is one form of vitamin C, which I take to bowel tolerance, which for me is 4,000 mg, in the form of calcium ascorbate. I've been doing high doses of C for years. I added Omega-3s in the fall.

*I imagine heavy plan is also raising your adrenaline levels - just reading Kana raises mine - not sure what to suggest for that.]

I've already either tried or am considering most of the things people posted here and I thank you for the recommendations. I was more or less just wondering what do you do when the hot flashes hit and you're playing. We tend to play pretty hard which has never been a problem before. But now I get the hot flashes even while we're playing which just causes me to overheat even more. We've had to stop so that I didn't pass out or get sick. So I'm basically just wondering....what did you do when this happens? Do you just stop playing during the scene? Have you stopped playing altogether? Stick the scene out? Do something else?

I really don't want to have to stop playing altogether or have to play the tickle and feather version and stopping all the time just really really sucks because it means I don't get to hit subspace and it just ruins it altogether and makes me feel like shit for having to do so. Like I said it's frustrating.

You may find that the other changes you make decrease your hotflashes during play as well as in general.

I'm curious about the connection between adrenaline triggering hot flashes. Take an anti-anxiety like Xanax? I'd hate to suggest taking the staple gun away

it's not the adrenaline that triggers it. I'm always always hot no matter what I'm doing or even just sitting doing nothing.

But it just seems to be interfering with our play because I'm already hot to begin with and then we play and of course you get all hot and sweaty from that alone. Add hot flashes together with it and I'm overheating to the point of feeling sick and wanting to pass out sometimes. He has to continually stop to be able to give me a break to cool down, give me water, etc....which means I just can't get in the right headspace. Sigh. At this point I'm just frustrated and upset with myself.

As for ice dildos.....ugh....I sooo hate ice in certain places lol. He already tortures me enough with that.

But I'll be more than happy to get rid of the staple gun.

Please tell me that unwanted hair is a part of it. I usually get one whisker in a spot every other month and now I got my 3rd one in a month.

Bad enough I am dealing with the low sex drive and dryness...

I'm not having the low sex drive or dryness part yet. I've never had a huge libido to begin with though due to my depression and other issues. I have found though that with Master that's sorta changing lol. Same with the dryness...was never the type to get real wet either so I'm not so sure I'll really see a huge difference in those areas.

And as for the hair part....blah...I've always had the stray hairs in weird places lol. These days though my hair is actually getting a little thinner which has me concerned and I'm thinking of trying Rogaine or something to make it stronger and a little thicker.

I will say though that today with starting a new gym with a trainer was hell due to my hot flashes. This gym is a lot cooler than the other gyms I looked at but the flashes though are still causing me to have to stop from time to time to cool down. It truly sucks. Thankfully my trainer is understanding and takes that into consideration.

I've been lurking for ages, and the thing that finally drags me out into the open? Overheating!! Who'd have thought!

My un-lurking was to suggest a spray bottle filled with water. I tend to overheat quite easily when exercising, and I've found a few sprays of water every now and then (well, to be honest, I end up drenched) can make all the difference. Adding in a fan could help even more.

Hope you find something that works.
