So the OP has no or hidden profile, and yet no one seems to think they are trying to best "Tap, Tap, Tap?"  It was the first thought that came to my mind.

No one, and I mean NO ONE with a quarter of a brain comes to a message board for advice on how to rescue a "friend" from abduction.

My first thought as well.

This guy contacted me the other day and claimed to be a Civil War veteran (whatever that is), stuck on our planet...I think his name was John...and wanting me to help him get home. I didn't give him any quatloos...no lie...

He had a profile before. I remember him from the poly forum. He and his wife are near Munich.

I think he's sincere but is being set up for a scam by his correspondent. There might be some Germany/US confusion here.

You mean language confusion?  Sorry, but since my best friend is a German citizen, and I KNOW that Germans aren't lacking in common sense, OR the ability to communicate in English (requirement in school), I find confusion to be unlikely.

Because even if they had been talking to this person in the past, common sense prevails.  Someone contacts you and says this, you tell them to immediate contact authorities, you don't come to a message board wondering whether the police or the embassy would be better.

Kainundeva -> RE: not so nice story (3/29/2012 12:40:13 AM)

yes, there is a possibility to be a scam, of course.

but if somebody is talking to you from european phone numbers, telling you she´s going to new york, and then being in new york ( which is not confirmed yet, sure, but where´s the sense in making up a story you can´t hold upright because you can´t call from NY then... even without any money she can go to any police station or the consulate and have us calling them back for confirmation ) does at least give a hint there is a good chance for this to be true.

and we did take down our profile about 2 weeks ago because there is no need for it anymore, we don´t look for anything at the moment, except the information of the forum here.

and no, she did not call the police yet, because she´s frightened, yes, and she is tending towards running for he hills, but still she´s into that kind of stuff a lot, she´s probably as high on adrenaline as a kite.
she just unsure and says probably she needs help to get out there again... as she does not have an address etc. and this guy lied and cheated, plus he´s kind of spooky.
then i just want to have infos for her. that´s why this thread is here, to collect infos from US citizens what would be the best way. we just don´t want anything worse happening to her than the things she WANTS to happen to her.

and this is answered now. she´s got access to a computer, that means she can see her outside IP on for example whatismyip.com, and with that she can send a yell to authorities.
that was easy enough, just did no think of that.

If you are a citizen of United Kingdom, you do not need to apply for a visa to come to the United States. However, once you get to the airport here, they generally would give about 6months entrance visa.

With that said, you said she doesn't know where she is right now. Second, how was she able to get in touch with you or your wife?

Third, your profile is hidden...why?

SL

As it happens... these days you DO have to apply for an electronic visa prior to travelling using the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization), I think you need to do it at least 48 hrs before you fly.

crazyml -> RE: not so nice story (3/29/2012 2:27:25 AM)

Setting aside the gag inducing aroma of bullshit for a moment.

1) Yes, contact the FBI. No of course someone who has been forced into prostitution won't be prosecuted (common sense!)
2) When she gets home, suggest that she return her passport, she is clearly too stupid to leave her home country.

So now you had phone conversations with her, where originally you said you she was your wife's "online friend."  Not to mention you said the only phone was the imaginary master's mobile.

first: because she is an online friend of my wife ( sub ) since quite a while.

Well, since she is going to be auctioned off tomorrow, no worries.  Your story was mildly entertaining, but I wouldn't recommend you quit your day job to take up writing full time.  You aren't able to maintain consistency in your story.

now tell me which regulation says you can´t talk with an online friend on the phone, because then he is no online friend anymore.

and you still did not get the story. you should read all of it before you criticise it.
first: friend, online & telephone, europe.
then: she goes to new york couple of days ago, only one short online contact while the guy was away, he took her phone, tickets and bank card. no phone in the house, the guy has a mobile.

i hope this is put simple enough now even for you.

You really shouldn't be criticizing someone else for not understanding something that doesn't make sense.

You also haven't answered: Do you know this person in real life? have you met face to face?

sorry, but i really get upset when people don´t read all and give a critic instead of a tip and totally neglect the fact that there might be somebody in trouble. i would have written "this is a fictional story, please give critic" if i would have wanted that. and i would have put it in another forum.

as i said, it´s already solved from my side, i know what to do now when i get in contact with her again.

to answer your question: no. not face to face. which is why i wrote that there IS a scam possibility, and i am well aware of that. BUT: what if it´s true? and for that i do what i have to and advise her how to get out best.

OttersSwim -> RE: not so nice story (3/29/2012 8:14:33 AM)

Yea, still not buying it.

Even if the doors were locked from the outside, houses have windows and throwable objects or kitchen chairs or lamps to smash through and yell for help the first second the guy is gone. Not to mention climbing out a window and running for help.

If there were a person in potential danger, they would be getting the fuck out of there at the first opportunity rather than talking to you on the computer.

High BS - Raise your arms people, we can still save our watches! [;)]

I just came across this thread, and it has more bullshit than a cow pasture.

OttersSwim saved me a lot of typing, so I just quoted his comments. But he said exactly what I was thinking.

Either this story is total BS, or the "victim" is the stupidest person on Earth. [8|]

Before doing anything: you should be able to get the IP address off of the email that was sent.

If she entered into the US from another country, her passport was scanned and she had to list where she was staying. If she was planning on staying with this person, she had to list the address.

It makes no sense that she's in so much danger and the choice would be to send an email to someone half way around the world.

Agreed. And IF the OP really believed the person was in danger, they would be talking to the feds and not us.
