to answer your question: no. not face to face. which is why i wrote that there IS a scam possibility, and i am well aware of that. BUT: what if it´s true? and for that i do what i have to and advise her how to get out best.

Before doing anything: you should be able to get the IP address off of the email that was sent.

If she entered into the US from another country, her passport was scanned and she had to list where she was staying. If she was planning on staying with this person, she had to list the address.

It makes no sense that she's in so much danger and the choice would be to send an email to someone half way around the world.

Not simply half way around the world, but someone they had never actually met!

So now you had phone conversations with her, where originally you said you she was your wife's "online friend." Not to mention you said the only phone was the imaginary master's mobile.

now tell me which regulation says you can´t talk with an online friend on the phone, because then he is no online friend anymore.

and you still did not get the story. you should read all of it before you criticise it.
first: friend, online & telephone, europe.
then: she goes to new york couple of days ago, only one short online contact while the guy was away, he took her phone, tickets and bank card. no phone in the house, the guy has a mobile.

i hope this is put simple enough now even for you.

Oh, I read all of it.  You didn't mention having spoken on the phone to them until much later when others called bullshit.

Bullshit is bullshit, no matter what language it is in, but perhaps this will be simple enough for YOU to understand:

entweder du, die Leute auf diesen Boards sind komplette Idioten oder Sie und Ihre Frau sind die dümmsten Menschen in der Existenz.

Wir alle wissen, die ganze Geschichte ist ein Haufen Scheiße, warum nicht?

MariaB -> RE: not so nice story (3/29/2012 11:19:18 AM)

She's playing out a fantasy and your just one of the needed props. Tomorrow she will be sold and in a week or so she will contact you again with a continuation of her saga. People with histrionic type personalities do this sort of shit and they have a tendency to do it well because they have story telling down to a fine art. [8|]

Call her bluff and tell her you have her IP address and have reported it to the world wide authorities and they are putting a trace on it!!

LOL!

"I have traced your IP address and have forwarded it to my local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations along with your emails. They have contacted me back and are tracing them now - don't worry, help IS on the way and the police should arrive at the physical location that corresponds with your IP address shortly!"

That'll cause a panic! [;)]

LoreBook -> RE: not so nice story (3/29/2012 1:35:30 PM)

I commend you for your compassion and your wanting to do something "just in case" its not a scam. So, on the off chance that the story is legit, here is what you do.

Contact the FBI, Interpol, and the equivalent agency in her home country with all the particulars and details you have, including the originating IP address of the email sent to your wife. If the communication was over IM rather than email, then give the police the exact time and the IDs of all parties along with your IP address and ISP information. Both the ISP and the IM host will have full records of the connection, and from the both of those the authorities should be able to locate the person.

Then relax, open a bottle of wine and enjoy your evening knowing that you have done everything humanly possible to help.

Now THAT would be hysterical!

thank you. had contact to her yesterday, guy was out for an hour. gave her all the information. just in case.
she calmed down and is into that idea of getting auctioned now... ok, if she wants that.
told me she´s going to a place with about 30 bidders and 2-3 other slaves. as i said... adrenaline.
she still does not have the address, but his name and gave it to me just in case.
not a very common name, quick search gave only 2 in new york ( plus new york state ) and none in jersey.
if she´s a storyteller, story is extremely good.

Something really important to keep in mind: you can not rescue someone who doesn't want to be rescued.
You friend sounds willing but ambivalent due to fear.

Wow! You really are the most naive person on Earth.

But if it will make you feel better, give me the IP address of the computer that she's writing to you from (or better yet, give me the name of the guy who is holding her hostage, since you supposedly have that). I live in NY. I'll go rescue her right now. [:D]

She could not have entered the US unless she gave immigration officials the address where she is staying.

Hell, go to the auction. We'll pass the hat. I pledge $20.

OttersSwim -> RE: not so nice story (3/30/2012 7:59:56 AM)

50 Quatloos for the newcomer!

Kainundeva -> RE: not so nice story (3/30/2012 8:02:14 AM)

i don´t need to give an address. i can go to the us, rent a motor home and drive through the country. no problem. from the UK you can travel US for 90 days.

but again: matter is fixed, gave her the infos and told her how to leave.
she knows now, wants to stay anyway, so frankly i don´t care anymore.
if she does not leave now and something happens, there is nothing anybody but her can do about it.

edit: i had to google quatloos... [:D]

In addition to being currency on the planet Triskelion of Star Trek, did you catch that it is the domain of an anti-fraud website?

That should be the new "reward" currency for brilliant posts on CM.

Oooh, good idea. I've always wanted to buy a slave at auction. [:D]

Darn! I was looking forward to rescuing her. I had already designed a superhero costume that I was going to wear. I even developed a quatloo holder for my utility belt.

Please send me the kidnapper's name anyway. I'm going to proceed with the mission. I just can't bear to see a good superhero costume go to waste.

BTW, does anyone want to be my sidekick? [:D]

Where have our feisty NJ women been these days?

I'm not sure how this thread got this much attention...
